Speedway Books - Peter Cravan :The Wizard of Balance | |
---|---|
Peter Craven, universally known as 'The Wizard of Balance', was England's most talented rider. He had his first race for Liverpool and then later rode for Belle Vue. Peter Craven is the country's only two-times world champion, he thrilled speedway crowds from 1951 to 1963. This brightest of stars in the speedway firmament was tragically extinguished four days after a horrific track accident at Edinburgh in 1963. The doomed rider was known as a great stylist and years ahead of his time with his spectacular technique. Brian Burford previously compiled an excellent biography of the Moran brothers and world champion Sam Ermolenko. This book was written with the support of Peter Cravens widow. |

Moran Brothers - Click here to order online
Shawn and Kelly Moran spent the majority of the highly successful speedway careers racing in the United Kingdom. Shawn's clubs included Hull, Sheffield (where he spent a total of ten years in two spells) and Belle Vue (five years). Kelly rode for Hull, Birmingham, Eastbourne, Sheffield, Belle Vue and Swindon. They began their British careers at Hull, where they were team-mates with multi-World Champion, Ivan Mauger. Wherever they went, the brothers were two of the most colourful characters in speedway during the 1980s. They won the world team cup twice and were prominent in the World Championship event for many years (including a first place in the Long Track Championship). They were among the first wave of Americans to race in Britain, and were instrumental in setting the standards for their fellow countrymen to follow. Written by Brian Burford, who has been a speedway supporter for over twenty years, this book includes a foreword by 1996 World Champion Billy Hamill, and is essential reading for anyone with an interest in speedway. |
