THE BSPA General Council met on Tuesday at a time when speedway in the UK is in crisis. But, as usual, no word from the inner chambers of ACU House in Rugby. We are not allowed to know what they discussed, what plans they have afoot or any decisions made. They have become the ultimate secret society. And yet they wonder (maybe they don't) why the paying public, on whom they depend, despair and are deserting the sport in their droves. Are they interested in what British fans, those that are left, are prepared to pay to watch?

Is that the same Chris Harris that wasn't allowed to sign for the Somerset Rebels? As they say: it's not what you know - but who you know!

Whether it’s 9/11, Tsumami, Katrina or Trump etc, it’s clear to see what makes the most column inches. Given your opinion that injured riders from other teams “reap what they sow” I’m not surprised you revel in disaster. Awful human being.

Just round the 1st and 2nd bend normally

That’s what I thought but someone corrected me on another thread and it’s mid August - I think it’s around the 12th.

One thing Kyle does almost all of the time is stay on his bike.

After a few years, Sky's coverage got slightly repetitive. It was two and half hours for 15 minutes of speedway action - and then it quite often overran! I used to sit through it all, but now I ask how I however did, even standing for two hours at the track itself. There was and still is too much padding out for live matches on the television. Live speedway, and it's only my opinion, helped the sport for a few years, maybe introducing new fans, but I feel it also cost many who actually wanted to attend the stadium and instead save their money and remained at home. Though the ardent fan would say he'd never miss a match at his track, It's an easy habit to get into. And with the Play-Offs as we have them now, the whole season is pointless apart from the last six weeks or so. It is like watching wrestling where you know the guy who's being smashed about is going to eat some spinach and then win out eventually. From day one of the season, a match should be important. The Play-Offs allow a team so many sleepy days before anything matters. And, do you know what, I think fans have cottoned on. I mean, Where do they all appear from when Play-Off Final arrives - surely it's like the fans you see outside a stadium when it's raining, waiting until the last minute to part with their cash in case the match is rained-off and their money is tied up. Unless there was a relegation system to go with it, a serious one and not where clubs can decide if they want to come up or go down, then Play-Offs have probably impacted on the whole seven months of the speedway season for the benefit of a couple of teams that make the Final. Once finished, they leave you cold and empty, all the hype when really they are anti-climatic. The only one that sticks out is 2006 - Reading v Peterborough - and that's because of the dubious double point rule that cheated the Berkshire club.

Well Ipswich were tipped to be one of the favourites but injuries have taken there toll so we had to be first at something

Teriffic article in the Swindon section by Terry Russell in this week's Speedway Star, bemoaning the fact that Speedway's 'second division' are allowed to call the shots over the top league. He cites the case of 3 of his riders for whom Swindon pay all the costs also being used by Lakeside who pay nothing other than points money yet get priority of those riders when there is a (potential) fixture clash. I couldn't agree more.

Not having team Kevlars makes sense now. Mind you probably would have got a discount for a bulk order.

Its quite simple as to why Somerset couldn't sign Harris to replace Vissing, because it would have put them over the 42.50 points limit (just!). Didn't need a BSPA guru to step in - just someone who could do simple arithmetic!!

We are suffering at reserve this year for a couple of reasons. Last season everyone had to have a 2pt reserve and we had three good ones in Connor Nathan and Danyon. They were beating their opposite numbers successfully this year due to teams like us Glasgow and Sheffield going for two number ones in the team it has forced the other teams to build strength in depth because all the heat leaders were signed up. This has put a lot of pressure on the reserves especially when Nico was struggling after coming back from injury and cams lack of form. We have been unlucky with injuries but we need to act quicker to replace injured riders with short term loans and to nominate a number 8 Saw Josh Bailey on the terraces He would be perfect til drew is 16.

I can't agree with that, watching Speedway live at Leicester is crap, it was less crap watching it on TV the other night... it was still crap though. The TV coverage adds value with the rest of the presentation, rider interviews, replays, (comedy) commentary etc. I have seen a lot of cracking meetings on TV over the years, normally SGP/SWC and play off semis and finals, when there is something at stake and something to ride for it's well worth watching, live or on TV... too often though, especially a league level there's very little at stake. For me Sky hyped a lot of their matches up more than BT do, who remembers the return of Darcy Ward match? A lot of us probably do, but who can remember who the teams riding were, what the score was or who even won!! The point is sometimes you can make the best of a bad job especially when the product on offer more often than not in this country is plodding along through the season building up to 6 meetings at the end of the season

THEY will still get the same exposure as they would if he wasn't riding for Glasgow. It has been tough for Craig and at present his only income is from Belle Vue, and they don't have that many meetings left. Sometimes he is his own worst enemy but the lad needs an income.

And I thought after all the teams were announced flappy would have created the first 2019 thread!

Haha wasnt Matt who stopped Somerset signing Chris. A member of the committee deemed it not right or would help Somerset a bit too much more like.

Because any rider that becomes available and could strengthen the Berwick should be considered at least. The inclusion of a rider like Ritchie Worrall would do that, but I think he will go else where leaving the Berwick team as it is now.

Ran as a Friday track up until 1980. Rode on Sundays in NL in 1981. Reopened on Mondays in 1984.

Cause basically people are sick of being ripped off by by riders giving half hearted efforts if they don’t lead leaving bend two then it’s over haven’t seen anyone busting a gut to overtake at Berwick unless they ride for the opposition.

Who do you think you are? “You lot”? This is a forum for opinions - I gave mine. I’m fine with you disagreeing with my opinion but don’t you dare refer to me as “you lot”

Even the players don't care about the third fourth place play off match, I d suspect it won't even top the rankings of tv available at that time. What I suspect will of affected crowds is the 2 day memorial banger meeting for Sussex banger racer Dave King taking place at Mildenhall. Dave raced at the track from the early 90s till last lead as had many friends around Eastbourne.

Oh for the days when the top riders rode in the top league and the lower league was for the part-time riders, youngsters and middle ability riders. The championship has become the premiership with a different name.Glasgow just taking advantage of the situation. The real credit has to go to the bspa who have spectacularly managed to completely destroy speedway in this country in the space of only a few years-you have to give them credit for at least succeeding in something.

Monday is speedway night that's obviously why only one PL team chose it when they had a free choice. Nothing interesting about those comments just his self interest because it happens to suit him and a disregard for the future of the sport in the UK.

Never mind it being the end of speedway... what about the Speedway Star? I have every copy, you know?
