Did Greg’s retirement really detract from the deserved send off Danny got? I don’t think so, let’s not make this an issue where one is played off against the other. Is it really worth it for a few likes on an Internet forum.

Pretty much every track staff job at Peterborough over the years, main team sponsor of two Clubs while not promoting, Promoter in all three leagues, at three (four if you count the Bees and Storm separately) different Clubs, three times at Peterborough with three different co-promoters, and a stint as a reserve member of the Management Committee - I’d say my achievements in the sport are considerably better than yours.....

I find both these posts slightly odd to say the least. I would be the first to admit the Greg Hancock isn't my favourite rider but anyone who is a multi World Champ, has had the longevity that he has and has ridden at the highest class be it SGP or any league throughout his career must be regarded as one of the best ever and a legend of our sport.

Baffled by this. Jack Chiswell died in 2001 when he was 93 years of age!!! Certainly not around in 2019 when he would be 111 years old. Take a rest Gustix you’re posting a lot of incorrect things recently.

The sheer hypocrisy of certain sections of the media regarding her passing is stunning, the same organisations and individuals that where having a go at her are now spouting sympathy about her death

Ive never liked Hancock but theres no doubting his achievements. I personally wont miss him from the sport but he is a legend of it

Just seen this report on Joonas and how he is coping after a couple of operations. A pelvis and late last year a new knee https://www.speedweek.com/langbahngp/news/155159/Vierfacher-Champion-Was-aus-Joonas-Kylmaekorpi-wurde.html "Back then I broke my thigh and pelvis while doing flat track training, it was a horrific fall," said the Finn. «I then had two operations, but these did not produce a satisfactory result. Although I and a world-class medical team did everything, this injury meant the end of my career. » Kylmäkorpi, who lives in Andorra, now has two flourishing companies: one is responsible for the distribution of snus (oral tobacco); the Unic brand designs and manufactures special mountain bike clothing. He is always there with his buddies Leon Camier and Chaz Davies, both of whom are professionals in the Superbike World Championship. The last time I met him was at MotorLand Aragon in Spain at the end of November - again on crutches. "I got an artificial knee, now I should be restored soon," Joonas smiled. «Since March 2017, I could only run if I took morphine. Then I realized that I need an artificial pelvis. That was done then, now the rest. »

BIRMINGHAM have added Chris Roynon to their track team for 2020. The former rider and promoter will advise and assist currant track curators Onny Butler and Mick Coleman at Perry Barr. Roynon has a wealth of experience and having moved back to the Midlands from Cornwall last year he was a regular at Birmingham near the end of the 2019 season. The father of former Brummie Adam Roynon has known team boss Laurence Rogers for a long time and worked with him at Plymouth . Rogers believes his addition to the Perry Barr backroom staff is important. “Chris knows all about track preparation and that will be a bonus to Onny and Mick," he said. "He is loaning us a blade that he has bought that will be of great benefit to us in track work and has a tractor we can use if we need it too. "With the new shale we sourced last year the track prep team are getting down to getting the Perry Barr circuit in tip-top condition for the new season. "His addition to the team is important and a big bonus to us .”

Can only echo everyone else, happy retirement He was my least favourite rider of all time tbh but hes a 4x world champ. Cant fault that. But could he have not waited one more day to announce it. Yesterday was a day to celebrate danny ayres life but ended up everyone talking about hancock. Made it all about himself. Pretty selfish

Ive seen both brothers regularly since they started at Newcastle. Ive always thought that Steve would be the better of the two Richie did a good job until his injury last season. I am confident that Steve will have an even better season this time round. No worries about Steve for me.

Take no notice, most of us who have ever ridden a speedway bike have tried too hard and fell off, only way to find how far you can push your limits! Hoping your leg heals quickly.

If you take out the doubling up/down you probably couldn’t fill seven teams. Yes the fall from grace is dramatic hence the powers that be should start to re-build the sport from the bottom and forget Poland etc. Those days when British speedway was a force to be reckoned with are for now, long gone. They should be encouraging riders at all levels and let teams without home tracks compete in the NDL. What is the harm if it is unearthing new talent. Get as many teams as possible named and race matches on a 4TT basis but with one rider from each team in each race over 20 heats. Make it interesting by starting on green light, no tapes and no exclusions for offences. Just handicap the offending rider by the starting position with 10, 20 or 30 mtrs handicap depending on the offence. Just do something different and stop the same old same old routine.

Logically I got to think Smolinski would be the next in line for a wild card, that’s why he is no 1 in the official 2020 GP substitute list drawn up by the same as pick the wild cards I presume.

Thanks Greg for all the great nights celebrating your unbelievable career. For the years at Cradley Heath, where you and Billy gave us fantastic performances both home and away, particularly those unbelievable occasions at Monmore Green against Ronnie and Sam. No one will ever match your Grand Prix records. In the top six for 15 consecutive years. Not 1, not 2 but count them 3, world titles after the age of 40. No one had done that once before you! Ignore the idiots who call you boring or overrated. The silent vast majority of speedway fans recognised you for what you have been. One of the sports greatest ambassadors

Some comments from Dick Case, to put his side of the story, which might clear up the whole puzzle Firstly he reported back 'Speedway racing has certainly got Germans going, and Max Grosskreutz and I are running meetings at Hamburg and Chemnitz and are opening at Cologne shortly. We have the enthusiastic support of the government press. Hamburg saw team racing for the first time a few days ago and the crowd got so worked up that 70 of Hitler's stormtroopers had a busy time trying to keep order. The local champion Rumrich has beaten both Grosskreutz and myself, while Roth, who comes from Stuttgart is another top-notcher' So he has a different opinion on the press to the Evans/Grosskreutz version. He gets it wrong on Hamburg seeing team racing for the first time, as international matches were held earlier and I am not sure about Chemnitz running in 1933. I know they had meetings in 1930..... Another report from Case, I think gets to the bottom of why they left early 'At the close of the '32 season in England he went to Germany to find out its dirt-track possibilities. After a few months reconnaissance he decided to go ahead and with M.Grosskreutz as a partner, promoted a meeting at Hamburg. It drew a crowd of 14,000, and was a big success. 2 German riders in particular, Roth and Rumrich showed real championship class, and prospects were good. But the Nazi papers stressed the fact that all enterprises in Germany should be controlled by Germans, and the next meeting was not nearly so successful. To get down to tintacs, Case went to Berlin. An official of Capt. Goerings (sic) department was quite frank. They had nothing against the sport, he said, but they, the foreigners, wouldn't be allowed to take their proceeds out of Germany' That for me is the crucial point and probably as near to the truth as we will get. That no matter how much of a success they made of the venture, they wouldn't be allowed to profit from it. So it made no sense to carry on

From my knowledge of the beautiful man i think he would consider the best way to honour whichever racing number he was to be issued is for the incoming rider to give their all and entertain to the best of their abilities. That is exactly how it would be if Danny was the incoming rider.

I don’t follow. What does this mean, please?

I am not bothered what nationality a rider is, as long as they go out to entertain me. I don't get the fuss over British riders having to have first choice of teams, if they are good enough they will have a team place

Are they his quoted words? The article could have been scripted by the press office & Rob was the spokesperson to the BSPA site. Also, I am agreement with you in that the 3 meetings should not be on a weekend, too much of a burden to fans. Also, if the weather forecast was a bit iffy, how would that affect the attendance. It is ok for Cardiff having a retractable roof but not so Somerset & Leicester. Plus those that have pre booked hotels/inns etc could lose out even more. We have at Scunthorpe, benefitted by having the Glasgow League meeting on the Sunday after Cardiff(bar last years late running) so that is an opportunity lost to us.
