I think even John Berry would have difficulties promoting the sport today, as even he acknowledged some years ago. He did say that he was fortunate to hit on the right location at the right time (although less so at Doncaster), but the sport still had a bigger profile and fanbase in 1969 compared to now.

Not only was the tweet/FB post very insensitive to Kenny Carter's wife's family but it damages Speedway's reputation and I think gives insight into why the sport is in such a bad way: Insular, amateurish, hostile to change and resistant to modern culture/values. I remember taking some friends to the open night of the London Lions because I thought they might like Speedway. There was nowhere to stand and so we stood on the grass banking that Hackney fans had stood on for years. The police were called to have us removed from the stadium. We asked for a refund at the office. The office staff called Colin Pratt over who told us to f*ck off. My friends didn't attend speedway again. Another occasion on which Speedway has embarrassed me. The post from Speedway GB was shocking and hopefully none of the family saw it

One for the future. It’s not hard to see why the sport is in trouble in this country.

There was a mini-resurgence for the sport when Sky Sports came on board. Unfortunately, every promoter wasted the income on rider's instead of future proofing. As I've said before, the National Speedway Stadium had come 20 years to late. Had any club had the foresight back then, I'm convinced other's would have followed. The financial waste has been astronomical. There is a chance again now to try & do something about it. The pandemic has created a reset. It's critical the sport finds someone from outside to help with the rebuild, there are currently no promoter's with the mindset to do it through fear of damaging their immediate pockets.

This season(different from last) it’s only to replace a rider who has been certified as having Covid.

I'm not condoning illegal immigrants, but I'm sure that any who are picked up would be held in holding centres for at least a couple of weeks to ensure they are covid free. As for sending them back to Europe, we can no longer transfer migrant back to France as we have left the EU so are no longer signed up to something called "Dublin III", which allowed asylum seekers to be returned to the EU member state where they came from. Apparently. Not that I recall many being sent back before we left the EU either. Migrant crossings: What happens to migrants who reach the UK? - BBC News

Looking at that bunch of poor excuses for top tier teams. Sheffield will romp it, only resistance on the other side of the Peninnes. I might have a lower age than the Panthers average age!

Let's be honest a form of vaccine passport is going to come in Worldwide, all those protesting it's against their human rights etc really need to get a grip. What are they going to do when they want 2 weeks in Spain, spend a fortune on tests to prove they don't have covid to get into Spain then again to get back into the UK. This country needs to get ahead of the game, nobody allowed into the country unless they can prove they have been vaccinated, and as far as i'm concerned that's illegal immigrants as well. The Navy need to be rounding up these dinghies and taking them straight back to Europe. We have spent so much time locked down to protect the NHS from being overrun with patients who need ICU care, we have to protect and concentrate on the UK population who have suffered for the last year and whose descendents will be paying for it long after we are gone. Once things have calmed down in a year or two, then those immigrants can chance their arm on coming here and joining our wonderful diverse and cosmopolitan bunch of people that put the Great in Britain All this worldwide panic for an infection which is as infectious as flu and probably actually kills less than flu

Two days too late with that one... No one will fall for it....

Yes Very true and a valid point . Guess I’d hoped after a year of practically no speedway in the UK we’d have the great British speedway re set button pressed and get a bit more credibility back in the sport .

If riders can ride for 2 teams and guest for every team can't see the difference back room staff working for 2 teams. Just highlights the farce of the sports rules

No secrecy from me. If?? The people running British Speedway have consistently failed the sport for 20+ years. The fans are not the problem here, footfall through the turnstiles is all the proof needed. There's been no "I told you so" from any of us that no longer go. We want this sport to be the best (which it can be) but the promoter's have zero ambition to do so. Their way to keep the money coming in is simply, as the crowd numbers fall, admission prices go up to make up the shortfall. British Speedway's business model is run in an absolutely appalling way.

How long will it be before Chris Harris & Scott Nicholls have ridden / guested for all six teams?
