You're correct.  The Ochiltree family (Midland Sports Stadiums Ltd) owned Brandon and Blackbird Road.  They sold Leicester to Barratts for housing in 1984.

They sold Coventry Stadium to Avtar Sandhu (Coventry Stadium Ltd/ Coventry Greyhounds Club Ltd / Coventry Racing Club Ltd) in 2002

Around 2013 there were rumours that Coventry City FC were buying the stadium, but also HMRC put a block on Sandhu selling the stadium as they claimed Sandhu bought it with the help of a criminal business partner who had been convicted of money laundering and organised crime.

Sandhu eventually sold the stadium in 2016 to a Jersey company Brandon Estates Ltd.   (I have no idea who is behind Brandon Estates Ltd - someone must know)

Mick Horton was trying to lease the stadium for Speedway from them to continue in 2017.  I think Sandhu tried to lease back the running of Greyhounds too.  This fell through and Sandhu apparently broke into the stadium and allegedly stole fixtures and fittings.  Brandon Estates Ltd contacted the police and claimed no one could now run Speedway or Greyhounds at their stadium as it was an active crime scene.

    That's how I remember it.

I don’t think the CO was more than a director of MSS at the time that Blackbird Road was sold, ie he didn’t own MSS, that was the Sandersons.

  2. I remember attending Brandon every Saturday night (stock cars excepted), to see the speedway racing

I’d go most Tuesdays to Blackbird Road, to see the speedway

I enjoyed Bees winning, I enjoyed visiting teams winning at Leicester, but really it didn’t matter, as I’d enjoy the action from the 13 heat match and the second half, which I always stayed for

League, challenge, Midland Cup matches, plus World and Midland Championship qualifiers, Tests and other individual meetings

This attitude doesn’t seem to prevail any longer, judging by the comments on BSF - all this b0llocks about play-offs, rider changes, with journeymen “team members” - fans identified with “their riders” season after season, now it’s hardly match after match

Can’t remember many changes for the better since “the good old days”

Belle Vue produces consistently the best racing week in week out on possibly the best Speedway race track in the world yet can't get anywhere near filling the place. Not surprising really when they stage their event on a night when most people can't get to it.

Also, why go when it’s televised or streamed?

It’s as if you and others didn’t watch the superheat. It’s nothing like a drawn match in the way it creates the drama. The after heat euphoria as Phil rightly says, was as if they’ve just won the title. Louis puffing out his cheeks just before the tapes went up in the superheat you could see the nervousness and tension in him, just like every fan whether that be Ipswich or Peterborough. I’ve NEVER witnessed scenes like we saw at Foxhall for the superheat earlier this season, for any drawn match in the past, never.

You’re over complicating things here by saying why not an extra heat if you’re a couple of points behind to try and get a draw.  If you’re a couple of points behind there’s no need for an extra heat because you’ve lost the meeting, pure and simple. The rule is very clear and nobody can claim to be disadvantaged, a draw isn’t good enough. if you want to gain 3 points, either win the meeting or if you can’t do that, get a second bite of the cherry and win the superheat. We came out on the right side this time, but if this rule stays, I guarantee will come out on the wrong side at some point, and I’ll still claim it’s a great addition. I’m sorry but nobody will convince me that it doesn’t create huge drama and excitement and I find comments like “pointless and adds nothing” baffling to be honest. We had this debate after the Foxhall superheat and at the end of the day, neither of us are going to change our minds on the matter.

Louis puffing out his cheeks - couldn’t win in the 15 heat match, so given another chance.
Piffle (or much worse language) - it was a draw, leave it at that, the result of the scheduled races.
