Is this for the season Tim do you know or selected races?

I think in recent years they have done 2 live GP’s and one is normally the British.

Hopefully as this is so early in the season they might do a few more.

Not many 18 year old would beat these guys wether it was in his back yard or not. This boys got skill. Workington have done well to get him

I’m pretty sure if Tobias Thomson had beaten some of these riders on his home track we would be hearing how he’s one of the best signings of the season.

Great work by Workington to get Tate.

So why does it have to be in Tenerife?  It doesn't.

Why not, why does it have to be in the UK like you’re demanding?

If it’s only costing £1k each to attend that’s not much money and I doubt many promoters get the chance to go away during the season.

  4. So Vinales has turned down the Repsol ride and Zarco has rules himself out from it, it looks like Aleix is touting himself for the ride.

I can’t remember Honda ever being in such a mess and you can’t blame Marquez for jumping ship if he wants to win another title.

Hopefully we get a full weekend of racing this weekend but the weather forecast is not good.

Well at 6:40 pm Monday 6th Oct still no confirmation where he is going. If Gresini is a done deal whey no announcement. All we know he is leaving Honda, and Honda has conformed that. grissini, nor any other team has confirmed they have signed him.  Strange.

Only one seat left in Moto GP so I can’t see him quitting Honda without a ride.

Maybe Gresini wanted the Honda news out of the way before announcing him along with maybe a new sponsor like Red Bull.

So, we know MM93 is leaving Honda, possibly for 12 months but where is he going. Rumours Gressini Ducati, but they won't have 2024 bikes...... will 2023 bikes be good enough for a mullti world champion still capable of top honours?  Could it possibly KTM he going to? Do they have the money he will command? and a 2024 bike? Rumour is Miguel Oliveira could go to Honda......apparently he is good at developing a bike, which is what Honda needs. If he goes to Honda that will leave a seat on an Aprillia.... but is it a 2024 bike? Reckon we should hear something very soon. Wherever he goes I hope it stirs MotoGP up as I find it a bit stale. I not happy with the sprint race at every GP....too much for riders at this level.

    Any thoughts.

Gresini does seem a done deal, the 2023 Ducati will be much more competitive than a 2024 Honda.

Would expect Zarco on the official HRC Honda with Lecouna on the LCR.

Pol is out at Gas Gas with Acosta coming in.

  7. I went for a ride on my motorcycle through the Cotswolds on Friday, went through numerous 20mph limits and not once did I see anyone driving at that speed, everyone was still doing 30mph.

Blanket 20mph limits are a ridiculous idea but if it was targeted outside schools and village centres I feel it would be a good idea.

Cracking Moto3 and Moto2 races at Catalunya yesterday, and thankfully Bagnaia escaped without any fractures after his horrific first lap accident. I really feared the outcome for Bagnaia after being run over by Binder, and it's testimony to the skill and reactions of the other riders that the rest of the field managed to avoid Bagnaia lying in the middle of the track. It was difficult to get back into the race after the restart, after all the other carnage at the start of the race. But it turned into an Aprillia double with Espargaro and Vinales in first and second.

Hopefully Missano next week will be less eventfu,l, though Bastianini looks like he will be missing after two lots of surgery this week and even though Bagnaia says he will try and be fit and ready for Sunday it would be amazing after the battering he took yesterday.

Although I am not a fan of Dixon I thought he rode a brilliant race to take the victory in moto2 from Cannet. After two wins this season I hope he can find the right level of consistency and challenge Acosta and Cannet for the title.

Sad to read the news that Paul Bird, for so long a stalwart of BSB died suddenly yesterday.. He will be badly missed in motorcycling circles. RIP Paul and thoughts are with his family and this sad time.

Moto 3 & 2 were superb but found both Moto GP races quite boring. Never seen anyone pass two people at the last corner like Alonso did.

Bagnaia was a very lucky boy, I expect he will still feel a bit beat up at Misano.

Great ride by Jake and even though he has signed a Moto 2 contract for next season still a few rumours linking him with the Gresini ride.

Shame about Paul Bird but he did live his life to the full.

We're trying to build a product which appeals to broadcasters, which hopefully attracts sponsors who see value in the coverage. That's a revenue stream.

If the product is good, and the promoter good, there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to draw a big crowd - especially if they bring in a big name GP rider to the event.

Why would a TV audience be more interested? Where do we start...

The sport is broken. It does not have the 42 riders it needs to put on three matches on a Monday night without reverting to borrowing players from other teams. This is literally under-10s football stuff.

League racing is boring. It is not credible. There's no prize at the end of the night. It just drags on and on. Made for TV means a meaningful conclusion at the end of the final race. There's no filler riders, but an equally matched competition. It's a chance to restart the sport and engage with a new audience who don't have the time to try to work out what the heck is going on.

Your sport is dead. It needs to do something. I still maintain its saviour will be developing a product for competitors rather than spectators, but one thing I am sure of is that stubbornly hanging on to league racing as the only game in town will not be the answer. The audience gets older, the competitor numbers get less and the venues go. New thinking is needed and the whole point of this thread was to open the debate about new formats for the sport - but it seems no-one's too fussed because 'we don't like that'.

Well we have a multi round individual event in Cardiff this weekend let see how many people bother going to that. The attendance is getting lower each year because people don’t seem to be so interested in individual speedway.

I think you let your hatred of team speedway cloud your judgement on this one.

Speedway will only survive at a very few tracks if it becomes more about the competitors rather than the spectators.

I also don't see a big travelling support, to be honest, as most speedway fans fall asleep at 9pm but a bold promotor might bring in some big names and local favourites in a bid to create some PR and put some bums on seats.

But, and I can't stress this enough, the idea is a format for a TV audience first and a trackside one second. A series which can generate some interest and attention beyond the anoraks. Maybe it is a loss leader, maybe not, but trying to make a prestigious domestic series is one way for speedway to try and regain some credibility. Maybe this is not the format, maybe you disagree with me, but league race is dull for the mainstream and speedway has to develop something that has broader appeal and which is TV friendly.

Personally I don't care a jot about 'teams' but my concept dabbles with it because it is so engrained in the sport.

So what you are saying is a promoter should run an individual event that nobody would care about in the log run and lose money whilst doing it. You will have them queuing up to showcase one of these events.

Why would a tv audience be more interested in this than they are league racing?

Another great weekend of racing across all the different classes , with the weather definitely having a big effect on things

It was, great to see Bautista not having things his own way.

Bit of a surprise to hear the Rea to Yamaha rumours though.

It's not snobbery, it's just numbers. The 'MSM' (as you call it) is all about getting the maximum number of eyeballs on their article, because that's what makes money. It's not about what they like. Fatalities create clickbait headlines, which get numbers, hence TT death articles are published. BSB is well supported, but on a typical sporting weekend I would doubt it would get in the top 20 of sporting events by attendance/viewership, probably not even the top 40.

It's shallow but if speedway had enough fans to justify publishing articles then speedway articles would be published in your 'MSM'. The media is full of lowbrow activities, who get their share of voice purely because it makes commercial sense for that to be the case, or because they've paid to be there.

BSB at Brands Hatch next weekend will definitely be in the top 20 attended sporting events in this country but the media is not interested in motorbike racing. When Carl Fogarty was at his peak drawing massive crowds in WSB he was hardly mentioned in the MSM. Wins a crap celebrity event and they are all over him.

BBC News will always show some WSL football match in the round up even though hardly anyone is in the stadium just to come across as inclusive.
