  1. Who says it was an error by GD ?, I still haven't seem confirmation one way or the other whether the 8 day rule stands in the NL and either way, why is there more than one interpretation of it ?, if the rules are not crystal clear than the BSPA must be held to account for tonights utter farce, it's a rule should be legal or not, there should no be any doubt whatsoever and the fact there is shows the governing body has totally failed, cheating the paying public and the outcome of a cup final, heads MUST roll for this.

  2.

What is the solution then? Close Eastbourne? The three pointers will indeed struggle, as will ours at away venues. A large number of National League riders will have ridden there now so should improve, and since we're in the NL for the long term they'll have plenty of chances to get used to it.

As BrummieStormer says, immediate best decision would have been to leave the champions as first past the post, longer term Eastbourne should really look at rebuilding their track to a more conventional shape.

Mention has been made of team running Eastbourne close at home, how much of this was due to some decent performances by heatleaders though ?, the Greenwoods and Ellis's can probably give it a fair go, but what did the away sides tail end score in these meetings ?, tracks like Perry Barr and Kings Lynn are much more typical and far easier to suss out after a first ride and score some points.

  3. So how come Eastbourne didn't win the Elite League very often if that's your argument? How about Lakeside and their 'trick track' ? And Rye House and their tight track?

Because at EL level, Poole, Swindon, Coventry etc hoover up all the expensive foreign talent, leaving many other teams to feed off the scraps, additionally the trick track nature of Arlington is far worse at NL level due to the inexperienced nature of the majority of the riders, handing a massive advantage to those who ride it every week, at least EL riders will have some experience of such tracks and even then a number still can't hack it.

If experienced EL middle order riders have trouble with certain trick tracks, how in any way is it right to expect a NL 3 pointer riding the place for the first time to stand a chance ?.

  4. All teams have to put a vote in david

Indeed, suggests to me some clubs were swayed more by the possibility of 1 or 2 extra nights of revenue and coverage than the fact they have made Eastbourne 2016 champions before it's even 2016...

  5. All looks alright apart from the return of bloody play offs, can't think what club that favours with a trick Sussex triangle over 2 legs

If your not good enough over a season then you are not good enough period, why should a ridiculous home advantage win the day ?.

  6. Makes for an interesting AGM with probably Birmingham, Eastbourne and Cradley pressing for a high limit and the others screaming blue murder if it is not low.

Without being disrespectful, how realistic is it for others, to get near those mentioned regardless of points limit ?, I think us and Eastbourne giving Cradley some competition has certainly upped the ante in the NL, which helped to attract Belle Vue IMO, even if IOW were coming back regardless.

Also there's a risk of many heatleaders being left in limbo with a low points limit, remember last year we got Adam Ellis pretty much because PL clubs were turning their nose up at him, what happens if they do the same to the like of BWD, Greenwood etc and NL clubs say they are too high to fit ?.

  7. I reckon we'll be top heavy again with Zach & Perry, we had years of teams with strength through the order that always fell short, sometimes agonisingly at the final hurdle, often turning victory into defeat from heat 12 onwards, IMO it's no coincidence the top heavy side assembled by Phil Morris was the one that finally got us over the line and I think that has given GD plenty of food for thought, certainly this method of team building has done Poole no harm at EL level often being a 2 man team with Holder/Ward.

Yes that means there's likely to be a weak link in the middle order, but no one is truly solid through 1-7, and being able to swap them with the likelyhood of strongly performing reserves gives some options if that does indeed happen, I doubt the like of Kirby & Wilson will feature next year.

  8. According to the radio, Morley didn't ride because he had machinery problems.

Another meeting where the score rather than the racing made it riveting, although it was most certainly possible to pass.

Kent deserved their point but while they benefited from rider replacement the Brummies lost out big time, effectively having a 5pt rider for an 8.5 one. Bates (or Perry) would almost certainly have scored more than 6+1.

It also didn't help that Ellis fell off in his first two rides - on both occasions on his own.

Wajtknecht was very impressive for a first season rider but I was also impressed with Ayres, Shanes and, not for the first time, Bacon.

I think it was Shanes who was riding a demon line in heat 15, bombing out into the dirt at a pace that would have you in the fence at any other track and picking up a hell of a lot of speed down the straight and Zach had to work extremely hard to keep him behind, a real gutsy racer, who I woulden't be upset to have as a guest.

  9. zach is good without a doubt, but zach hasn't ridden at number 1 yet where he would face the likes of:

    Morley

    Wilson -Dean

    Ellis

    Greenwood

    Branford

    Atkins

    Armstrong

    Clegg

    halsey

at least twice a match (3 times if in heat 15) where wilson dean has and where he has had two maximums

He's beating all comers when since he's been started to be put in heat 15, and the occasional other heat where he faces them now, certainly had the better of Clegg and Halsey at PB, which keep in mind is Cleggs home track too, easier said than done for him to ride at NO1 when he started on 3.00 and the man he's trying to dislodge from that position is considered to have had a bad night when he's only scored 12!.

I reckon Drury will have a real headache about who to send to the rider championship when the time comes, isn there a wildcard or something where both could get in ?, I think Zach and Ellis would be battling as much between themselves as anyone else.

  10. No not all of us - but some bitter individuals do.....................

Seconded, I know the Drury's were not universally liked, but as I'm aware things only kicked off big style while Alan Phillips was in attendance, I don't recall any massaive falling outs dragging the club down in the seasons that Mole was at the helm, hell even that season Patchett was running things was calmer than Phillips reign of terror.

  11. I don't mind us going with a top heavy top at all, in the EL we always went with strength through the order and the usual scenario was was to be winning a meeting by 10/12 by about heat 10, out comes the top heavy oppositions No1 on a tactical, followed by heats 13 & 15 and a decent lead soon evaporates into a loss, sick to death of being done by this, tactical rides favour big hitters.

  12. Bentley you forgot to add it averaged 3.5 out off 5 by tripadvisor which seems quite reasonable for English food. The person who gave it 1 could be compitition

Also those giving it 5 could be Phillips or friends of, plenty of fake reviews of various places on tripadvisor.

Personally I think Cradley going to PB is bad news for all concerned, with only 1 night a week allowed, that's the Brummies finished for the forseeable future, and it would also let Dudley Council off the hook with less pressure to find Cradley a proper home in their actual area instead of squatting at Birmingham, net result is Brummies are dead and Cradley probably won't return to Cradley/Dudley for over 20 years.

  13. Your best bet is to cut a deal with the developers.

In exchange for backing the developers plan, the speedway receives a downpayment of 10% of the profits of the housebuilding, in order to build a new stadium elsewhere.

Say the plan is for 400 houses, with a profit of £100,00 per house. That is £40m, so 10% would be £4m towards a new stadium.

Didn't Horton have plans for some kind of motorsports complex in Peterborough? Transplant that to Coventry and get the council to provide the land.

You'd get a brand new, purpose built speedway stadium with the club as landlords - for free!

I woulden't say cost is the biggest issue to Coventry relocating as finding a suitable site without any nimbies within the immediate 45 miles trying to scupper it.

  14. Not sure what this obsession with local derbies is ? Birmingham had 6 home matches which were local derbies in the Elite league and ended up closing.

6 Matches which were probably in the top 10 best attended at PB, simple fact is Brummies v Cradley/Wolves/Coventry/Leicester would bring more interest than Brummies V Belle Vue/Lakeside/Eastbourne.

For others I'm sure Belle Vue would get a decent crowd if Sheffield and Workington were in the same league, Rye House isn't a million miles from Lakeside either ?.

North & South divisions (point limit suitably lowered to give ex PL clubs a level playing field) is the way forward.

  15.

well if EL was the answer they'd still be there

Nonesense, that pillock Phillips would have sunk the club regardless of league, not saying the EL is the way to go, but it played no part in the clubs downfall.

I think the fact clubs are having problems in all leagues shows the league pyramid needs a shake up, possibly going regional, certainly I can't see Sky being happy at the idea of an 8 club EL and few if any PL clubs being tempted to step up.
