Riders Who Come On Later In Their Careers.
stevebrum replied to NickRushbrook's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Smolinski at 29 is hardly late in his career, tho i take your point. Adam Skornicki, whilst perhaps is best described as a decent 3rd heat leader certainly won his National Championship later on in his career in 2008 at 32. -

OK, so when this incident is treated any different to the Oz example my main point still rests. -

So is drinking/driving under the influence and fleeing from the police. Maybe it depends what country you live in. Like it ever actually goes to meetings! It would miss to much stirring on a daily basis, and no surprise it started the thread - WHY in an EL section i will never know. -
So Poole on for a 3rd week running?? All 3 meetings have relevance but i would have thought the Swindon v lakeside meeting would be more relevant. Still hopefully all 3 will get updates and some coverage so it should be a decent night of TV viewing.
-
So, which is it?
-
That`s much better news. SKY`s obsession with all things Poole was starting to become out of hand if it had been 3 weeks on the trot and particularly if they missed out on the play offs. They should have been billing the in form Panthers as the team to watch at the moment.

Think we just have to accept that injuries have ruined our title hopes. Guests for Jacob and Misk0000wiak for Ty is totally inadequate.
-
Id expect you to know?
-
Like Ty Jacob is irreplaceable on there respective averages.
-
Agreed its not the whole issue. But if you offer an inexpensive cheaper option it wont attract the numbers required to sustain it as a credible sport. Obviously if all leagues cut their cloth accordingly then there would be no leagues for the top boys to race in!
-
I never fail to be excited watching EL speedway at Monmore Green so i am probably spoiled. So i am lucky to say i have both Quality and Quantity. Have been to many tracks (PL/NL) throughout the years and some (Scunthorpe, Somerset, Stoke) have offered superb racing whilst i can name double those that offered the odd good heat. You are trying to make it into a PL = better quality racing scenario. It isn't. The best prepared tracks offer the best racing - irrespective of leagues). This is part of the problem we have Gemini. Can speedway really afford to say goodbye to a good percentage of its clientele? Too be honest i am with you on the NL part. I would be much more interested watching young and up and coming riders than regular PL. However i wouldnt go week in week out to watch it tho.
-
Which is ten times superior to the PL anyway. For rider quality.

You are clearly reading something that isn't there. I have always been a long standing advocate of pushing British youngsters into the EL. THe Swedish EL is very strong AND they use Swedish youngsters as their 7th member so nothing wrong in adapting a similar work model. The EL model has been watered down considerably over the years and i have still been a fan. However nothing is clearer as far as i am concerned - when we start DISCOURAGING the top boys from racing here then so will my interest in watching. There will never be a time i will watch PL standard racing on a weekly basis. My opinion, my choice.
-
I am fast becoming a fan of your work.
-
No argument from me. I have asked CVS a couple of times about this silly EU law that prevents us ensuring ENGLISH boys riding in our countries league. I could live with having 2 British riders at reserve at the expense of someone that doesnt really add anything to our league. Your idea meets with my approval absolutely!

If you can show me to where i said it was a fact then you might just save yourself from looking silly. But many posters are saying the top guys should be got rid of to save costs. Is Tai expected to ride in the UK on the cheap then? ALL riders that want to ride here should accept the terms offered by the clubs that they can afford ..... IF they wish to race here. So cheaper Speedway watched by fewer people.?? Good and reasonable post (unlike some) HT. It isn't about coming to terms with what may or not be on offer in the future. I am fully aware that promotions (from what has been said so far) are looking to strip things back next season to save money. I really don't have an issue with that if that is the way things are going and that the sport will be further watered down to save money, which is something that seems to be missed by some. My only point is that any watering down and further loss of top riders is going to see some (myself included) lost to watching regular Speedway. I am not trying to argue the point i am just stating what applies to myself and my views on the way the sport is heading (and has been heading for a long time) isnt great to keep those of us who DO actually want the top guys here. I am not blind to any of the issues that the EL has as some blindly appear to believe. I accept that changes may be likely next season, i don't have to agree or like them do i?
-
Simply splitting the 3 leagues for fairness. I don't have the actual figures of attendances for each league , if you can get hold of them it might make my fair split look silly.
-
Where have i said that promoters AREN'T losing money?? It seems apparent that the EL is struggling that virtually everyone can see and i am certainly not blind to it. My response was simple - by killing off the access to the big boys it will kill support by a further 35%. That isnt me blindly believing that the EL is fine and dandy - it isn't. Attendance has got lower with every dumbing down of rules and prevention (not encouragement) of the top boys riding here or making it flexible for them to do so. A co-incidence that attendances in the EL have dropped with every big name dropping the league?? Some of us clearly want the best riders here and there has to be ways to make that happen (more sponsorship, giving SKY more of what they want big hitters - and therefore a bigger chunk of money). It isn't rude or ignorant to say that without those big hitters a lot of fans will be lost to the sport. That is just the way it will be IF radical changes like those being mentioned happen. That isn't being blind to all that is going on in the sport, not at all , but the changes being suggested (i would imagine by PRO PL supporters no doubt) may just alienate a core of its own fans. That isn't to say i agree or disagree that the EL has to function on a different form next year, by trying to take the sport here back to grass roots it will cut off some of its supply of supporters. My opinion that's all.
-
Sorry, i wasn't aware you had assess to all the promoters finances, perhaps you can start the solo jog.
-
A ridiculous hand to play if so. The only blow to me is that i wouldn't go as often or be interested in supporting a PL standard team.
-
Just imagine..................... Woffy gets crowned World Champion at the end of the season and what would be the best way to milk the press attention?? Oh i know lets ridiculously cut the points limit and kick out all the big boys including our BRITISH World Champion. Smart move that would be.
-
The guy himself pulled out of riding in the EL because of his injuries and not wanting to ride in the UK - so he clearly wasn't up to the task. I have already stated the signing is better than RR and for me the jury remains out if he can produce anything like he did last time he rode for us (anything from 3-13!)
-
Pretty much sums up those of us that aren't inspired by the signing. Jury out on the success this time.
-
On paper it was a no brainer signing for Poole - seems to ride the track well and had a sensible average (he was not on a bargain average as some suggested tho however). Quite clearly injuries affected his season badly. I know he appears quite a popular signing with some Wolves fans and in all honesty as 5th in our averages should do an OK job.
-
Well the signs are pointing towards Miskowiak. Cant say i`m impressed but it has to be better than RR that is for sure. Remains to be seen if he really was bang out of form in the UK with Poole or the pressure of riding for the Pirates was just too much for him. One thing is sure, he will either score 13 or 2 if his EL career is anything to go by. Either way i am happy we haven't got the farce of RR for the play offs at least.
