Looking at the IoW situation from afar, l'm baffled as to why such a go-ahead, progressive promotion (as l'm repeatedly told they are) felt they couldn't continue to promote their terrific brand of speedway in what would be a nine-team NDL?

All the reduced points limit would in effect have meant is they would have to replace one seven-point rider with a new three-pointer -- and if their promotional ideas are so effervescent, their shows so attractive to their public -- surely this shouldn't have been a deal-breaker?

The NDL set-up seems to suit the other eight teams well enough -- what is it that the IoW promotion feel would prevent them continuing to put on their much-acclaimed presentations?

I think you've missed their point a little Dick, their irk is with the way it has been done without consultation or reference to the effect on the IOW. Barry has said on more than one occasion if there had been some discussion their may have been room for compromise or negotiation.

I'm thinking Oxford in the late sixties with Genz, Goody, McCauliffe, Reeves, Bishop seemed old. Rick Timmo looked young. Who am I missing? Is it Pete Jarman?

Arne Pander in 1968 and R/R for him a fair bit of the time, Danny tried Gotfried Andersson but I believe finished up running Johnny Poyser, Pete Seaton, Mick Bell and Ted Spittles over many meetings.

Seriously, look at the plans those apartment blocks are just across the road from the track, people aren't going to like the noise however short it maybe. And if it's not going to be a problem the council need to say so ASAP, because I can't see how the club can move forward whilst this is an issue.

Also look at the bigger picture this could be a wonderful chance for improvement. Yes I agree the Wheels which was in Bordesley (not Bordesley Green) didn't work. but it was half hearted at best, a nightmare to get to, it was never really finished and what could have been a great track got ruined by stock car racing.

I would never expect Perry Park to become “A designated park for wheeled/noisy motorsports” but more an area for 2 wheeled sports its already got the BMX track. What the Heck why not build a velodrome there as well because at the moment the isn't one for the commonwealth games in Birmingham.

And you mention Perry Barr being the spiritual home, a move to Perry Park would keep speedway in Perry Barr. After all from 71-83 Birmingham raced at another track in Perry Barr so it's been done before. And the current set up as good as it is, is far from the 1940's or even the 1970's at the other place.

Also a move might open up the opportunity to have far more race nights, a training track, international meetings why just settle for “ 25 meetings a season, one day a week “ It better than nothing but is it really going to lead to a great future?

I guess one big stumbling block would be the lose of park land but if just by chance the greyhounds and speedway moved to Perry Park, the land at the current track could be used as park land for the new residents right on their door step. The old grandstand could stay and converted, maybe in to a community centre or bar/restaurant and retail.

A move may never happen and I understand many may not want it to happen, but I fear with so much Re-development going on speedway may get squeezed out.

Time for people to expand their mind and start thinking outside of the centre green:o:approve::o

Er .. it's not an issue planning is recommended subject to a list of conditions which includes an accoustic barrier, these are conditions for the applicant and of the 5 letters submitted you can bet your bottom dollar that some if not all are the same fo;k who have perpetually complained and opposed planning for Speedway since the outset. Unless the Brummies are in breach of consent I fail to see what needs to be done bearing in mind that the Government are hoping to pass anti Nimby legislation in the future.

If you were British Speedway's Insurance Company, what premium would you charge for Adam Roynon's Accident and Illness insurance? Would he even be insurable knowing that a claim is almost inevitable?

The charge is the same as everyone else, you really can be a crock without the r at times.

    My predictions for 2020 are

    1) Everyone will still hate the Glasgow promotion for trying to run the club professionally

    2) The same tadgers will still be on here with their "well known sources" talking crap.

and your nearest track for local derbies will be Poole!

It was rumoured that Oxford would have been a viable spot to resurrect the sport possibly using the Lakeside licence, however you are moving further out of London and another 70 to 90 miles further away from Rye and Arena Essex, I am setting myself up here however is this a possibility worth exploring or am I being Totally Ridiculous?

Jon Cook has been sniffing around Oxford for some time now and still hasn't been able to crack it.

And I hope the Hammers are making this objection early enough to allow the Panthers to find a guest rider, as opposed to letting them turn up with Ulrich and then slapping a protest into the hands of the ref, like a certain club did with us earlier in the season even though they knew there was an error.

Applying the rules doesn't mean it has to be done in an unsportsmanlike way.

Sportsmanlike? Sportsmanship? There hasn't been anything Sporting about British Speedway for a very long time. Lying, cheating, devious, dishonest, crooked, bent and every spin on those words that are in Roget's Thesaurus are more apt descriptions than Sportsmanlike !

It is a decision that is, in effect, a fine on Lakeside. The mid week fixture will be a financial disaster for the promotion as I doubt the attendance will even merit manning the turnstiles!

And Workington too, the whole idea of the play offs was to give clubs a bumper gate and boost the coffers, what chance have Workington or Lakeside got to promote the final, I've agreed with some of Ged's stances in the past but not this one I'm afraid - this selfish behaviour could earn him a seat at the top table if he doesnt sell !

And just to show how consistent the SCB are they have suspended Willie Dishington for making a mistake in the play Off SF between Belle Vue and Lynn when he incorrectly ruled out Steve Worrall for a heat 15 ride, but appear quite happy for an SCB official to allow Morris to ride for Poole when his average rules him out.

Its wrong and in my view raises questions on the integrity and honesty of the SCB official allowing it.

Clearly Willie's face doesn't fit anymore. How can the SCB enforce rules when the Promoters and Management Committee completely disregard them? The truth is the Promoters and Team Managers who drew up the rules don't understand them so clubs are getting away with murder and the officials have to try and work with that.

Surely it would be good business for Berwick, Redcar and Scunthorpe to have teams like King's Lynn and Poole in town? Why is speedway so obsessed with getting teams exactly equal?

The teams would be built under the same points limits, or they could ride in the NL if they couldn't compete at CL level.

Speedway really needs the top division to be a decent size, even if it is set at current CL level.

If nobody will move up, what if the 7 PL teams say that they intend to drop down to the CL. What would happen then?

Please go back and look over some of the threads linked to those clubs after they lost at home in 2018 then you will understand why they don't want to get hammered at home. Regardless of the points limit many of the current PL clubs know just how to build a side to get the riders they want and Berwick, Redcar and Scunny will be the ones who get shafted by the experts who have been doing it to each other for years.

With no voting rights for three years. In which time the other promoters have taken your assets, reduced your crowd, because the weak teams you put out continually get beaten and you run on a day that suits them, not your customers.

If that hasn't destroyed your enthusiasm they will change the rules to push you out.

To be honest 1 vote isn't going to change a lot in General or League Council and you are entitled to join the debates anyway, a former Promoter who has attended 3 AGM's could bring a vote if they became a licensed Co-Promoter. In most cases it's the interpretation of the decisions after the event that causes a lot of the problems and disputes.

The only way other members can "take" your assetts is if the club has been annulled and they are liquidated to pay in house debts. If your talking about riders finding other jobs whilst acquisition of their parent is in progress that's different but you can apply to have your assetts protected during this process providing the acquistion is completed by the AGM. Where this has gone wrong before is when a club sale has fallen through in January or February or a new owner changes their mind about the riders they use and leave somebody out of work. Simple solution, get the debts paid and the purchase monies deposited with the BSPA well before the AGM but you can't blame anyone for employing riders who have an uncertain future.

Similarly putting out a weak team can be avoided with everyone moving at a sensible pace.

The race day farce this year is well documented but there are historical precedents set for priority race day and alternate days as well as the protocol of consultation with those clubs who have priority on your off race night (if you are going to choose any old race day apart from those agreed). If you acquire a club then you acquire that race day unless the club has no continuity or it has moved up/down leagues (then you lose it).

Should be ok as we are back to having only 3 meetings on a Friday . As some teams squeezed themselves into the Friday nights racing early in the season when not many riders were missing through one reason or another, the wet start to the season then the hot few weeks, you would have thought some teams would have tried to catch up meetings or re-arrange later meetings, if possible of rider availability, while the good weather was here. But no as they say fixtures were agreed at the start of the season & that's how it should be. Now we have had a period of wet weather & tracks have softened up a bit. It is reported on the updates that track conditions are catching riders out & there has been too many injuries this last couple of weeks through one reason or another. Best wishes to all riders that have been injured recently but shows that rules need changing, again, as they always do, to allow replacements for season ending injuries happening after the transfer cut off date. Happened last year with Wolves & Belle Vue & Poole suffered not long ago. If a rider does return through intensive treatment, whether  here or abroad, then the facility of the replacement is withdrawn.

Not a pop at your post at all, the best compromise would have been for clubs to try and accept rearranged dates and not decline because their injured number 1 wouldn't be back or can't visit you then because we are due at xxx the next day and the latter was from a club that had less than 100 miles to travel from one club to the next. How many times have Glasgow, Edinburgh, Berwick, Somerset and Plymouth travelled the length of the country on back to back fixtures.

The spirit of I'm all right jack is alive and well in the BSPA!

its funny that workington tried to do something that was IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE SPORT by running a few off nights (Friday) so the comets faithful could watch Craig in the G.P.s on Saturdays .

this was all agreed and the fixture lise was done and dustes .

then mr Godfrey couldnt get a guest sorted out on fridays when Steve Worrall was injured , because there were too many champ clubs running on Fridays .

so these were  pulled from certain clubs . that left many teams playing catchup with meetings . well done godfrey and that other m,..et .

in the BEST INTEREST OF THE SPORT . my hearth .

nice result from scunt horpe last night . kama . love it ..

measure once , cut twice , that his way .

Bit puzzled as to why Worky has only done 5 home league matches so far. I'm sure the answers are within this thread somewhere but are there reasons? Sorry for ignorance - main attentions been on other matters so this has escaped me!

Because their outstanding Friday Home fixtures were pulled by the BSPA which created a nightmare getting clubs to agree new fixtures on a Saturday

During the days when Promoters had teams in both leagues (Oxford/White City/Peterborough/Eastbourne, Hackney/Rye House, King's Lynn/Boston etc etc) there was always a system whereby riders tended to double up. Oxford enjoyed the opportunities of blooding the likes of Malcolm Ballard, Gordon Kennett, John Davis etc whilst still appearing for their Division Two/National League clubs. It allowed a natural progression from one league to another and I believe the system generally operated well. Not sure, personally,  how the modern system of doubling up operates, however, as there are those better placed than myself to make a comparison.

The modern system was initiated to replicate the era you refer to and encourage up and coming riders to chance their arm and development in the top league. There was a huge gulf in skill between the middle and top tiers where 10 point riders from the middle tier were struggling to get ones and twos in the top league. Initially those riders had to choose between one league or the other and were given a two season comfort by allowing them to return to the middle tier on their last middle tier average if the top tier didn't work out. The middle tier became more attractive with more meetings and by comparison easier races not withstanding that a few daft rsed Promoters started paying silly money to tempt them back. With insufficient riders doubling up with converted averages came in and eventually doubling down followed.

What was a development initiative became a bidding scramble so like many other best intended initiatives it was abused by; average manipulation, cheque book speedway, self interest and sheer avarice.

Lakeside's PROMOTION - basically, hang your heads in utter shame.

When Gerald Richter was track curator, Lakeside used to pay for a pretty accurate satellite weather forecast (that gave 15 minute forecast updates). Now, whether the current promotion pays for this service (unlikely), who knows. Suffice to say, sitting here in the Midlands and (from experience) a very accurate BBC forecast, heavy downpours were due from 8pm (the last time I checked, whilst sitting at my Mother-in-Laws was at 4pm). Or, in other words, I'm over 100 Miles away and could have called this one.

Suffice to say Lakeside Speedway are I assume, now in debt through hire of the stadium PLUS 14 riders' travelling expenses (minimum)? Is it any wonder that Speedway Clubs' haven't got a pot to p!ss in?

This cancellation appears on the back of weeks of the most glorious weather the UK has seen in years. Seriously?

But no. Jon Cook clearly only wants Friday Meetings.

The guy is an utterly useless PR!CK who has basically delivered mediocrity and utter failure during his tenure at Lakeside. Those who still believe otherwise are basically brainwashed automatons.

Meanwhile, here's a song for the utter tw@t:

Whilst I agree with most of your post the effing about with fixtures and the cut off approaching causes all reasonable judgement to be chucked out of the window.

At this stage of the season only the clubs with no mathematical chance of the play offs can accommodate a rain off and some may welcome it, Sheffield are in an unprecedented position of an early bath in August which just highlights the fundamental mismanagement of the sport.  It's both humiliating and shameful regardless, of whether Promoters are in the inner sanctum or mere members of the BSPA.

The current and previous seasons are the most organised fukc ups I've seen in sixty years of supporting the sport.
