In their brief 2 year history did any Doncaster rider appear in the Division 2 LRC of 1969 or 1970?

Scunthorpe Scorpions V Peterborough Panthers ( S G B Champ) - Sunday, April 2nd (5.30pm)
jonesy replied to lucifer sam's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Agree with the previous post - this is a tough start for us especially following on from Glasgow on Saturday night. Home wins are essential. It is hard to see many away points coming our way but I would love to be wrong. The weather looks good so let's hope for a good crowd. Prediction 46-44 home win. -

Good luck to The Scorps tonight. It looks a tough fixture first up but remember what happened at Ipswich last year! -
Scunthorpe Scorpions Vs Sheffield Tigers ( L C) - Easter Sunday, March 27th (3pm)

Good luck with the weather for Sunday Chris. Us Scunny fans are rightly proud of the quality of racing we regularly see at the EWR. Hope it lives up to expectations - last week was a cracker! -
Scunthorpe Scorpions Vs Ipswich Witches (lc) - Sunday, March 20th (3pm)

If you ever get chance to watch Heat 15 (DVD, YouTube etc) you will see Speedway at its best. All 4 riders in contention. multiple passing and re-passing and the outcome of the race and the match in doubt until the final pass on lap 4 bend 4. A superb meeting all round but this was the cherry on the cake. -

The weather is OK this morning in Doncaster. There is always something special about the first meeting of the season and Thursday's result adds to the anticipation. I would guess most Scorps fans did not expect a 4 point away win so let's hope it puts a few on the crowd for today. -
My Mum watched a lot of Speedway in the late 1940's and early 1950's - mainly at Odsal and Owlerton - and remembers a rider called Joe Abbott. Can anyone provide details about who he rode for and when please.

Doncaster 1969. The Stallions against Romford Bombers I think. I was hooked.

On Sunday Rob mentioned a possible rider from overseas for 2015 who would need help with accommodation. Any whispers or rumours who this may be? Could the Stags line-up from that meeting provide a clue?

Fog clearing in Donny now. No excuses - shall be setting off soon! -

Not much Forum interest in this one! End of season fever no doubt. The weather looks OK so one last speedway fix for us this year. Only pride at stake for the PL fixture but it would be great to see the Stags get something from their meeting. Hope there is a decent crowd today - let's have a safe evening for all. -
Sheffield V. Scunthorpe 10/04/14 Lc

Who saw that one coming? Great news for Scunny - maybe a few gremlins out of the way now although it was only one meeting. Let's hope for continuation of this form on Sunday. For the Tigers - the fans seem very downbeat after one disappointing result although it does seem as though other factors played a part in their lack of enjoyment. I'm sure they will be OK going forward. Speedway - don't you just love it! -

On form a comfortable home win but from a Scunny perspective let's hope that this is the start of better things. Obviously the League Cup has gone for us now but any confidence we can take from tonight will be welcome leading up to Sunday's league meeting with Somerset. Safe meeting for all please. -

Good luck to the Scorpions tonight. It's good to see Ryan back in the side but let's not expect too much from someone who only returned to the UK earlier today! Weather forecast looks OK. -
Scunthorpe Scorpions Vs Sheffield Tigers (lc) Sunday, March 30th (3pm)
jonesy replied to lucifer sam's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
The best team won - all credit to Sheffield for turning a 6 point deficit into a 48-42 success. There was some good racing and passing and both teams could take positives from the performances of riders returning from injury. Great start for the Tigers and a decent crowd too. Let's see what Thursday brings at Redcar for the Scorps. -

The weather forecast looks good and there should be the usual high turnout from Sheffield so it looks all set for the first Scorps meeting of 2014. Early season matches can be difficult to predict but here's hoping for a safe afternoon with competitive racing. Ideally most will stay to watch the Stags too - maybe some real prospects for the future. -
Dhr Testimonial Update - Now 19th May
jonesy replied to DHR Testimonial's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
A shame for David but hopefully a re-schedule will lead to a bigger turnout than today's weather would have allowed. -
Good luck to Josh for 2013 at the EWR. I'm pleased we are tracking another promising young British rider. Bring on the new season!
-
All the best to Gary for the future. He has left on a high and should have great memories of his role in the 2012 campaign.
-
I have to agree that they look strong for 2013 but until other teams declare their line-ups it is difficult to make comparisons. Somerset have just named two good signings and they will score heavily at the top end. Workington should also go well. Ipswich too. Ideally - and I say this as a Scunny supporter - there will be plenty of teams who come to the tapes next March with high hopes.

Champions! This has been nerve wracking just following the updates. It must have been unbearable at the track. Congrats to The Saints but great credit to The Tigers for almost pulling off the fightback. Hope everyone enjoyed the meeting. As a plus there was mention of a large crowd.
-
Superb meeting last night! Great turn out from Mildenhall and they made plenty of noise even though things did not go their way. Also good to see so many from Sheffield. On the track - wow! Some of the most exciting racing you could ever wish to see - a great credit to and advert for the National League. Good luck to The Saints for the second leg. If the meeting is half as good as yesterday's all fans will be in for a treat.

My uncle maintains that Arthur Forrest is the best rider he has ever seen. Does anyone know if there is any footage of him, either for Halifax or Bradford, that has been transferrd to DVD? I read some time ago that there is a company that specialises in converting old cine film of various sports to DVD. This is a very specific request so I ask more in hope than expectation.

Doncaster's history as a speedway team was brief - two seasons in 1969 and 1970. A long shot I know but is anyone aware of any footage converted to DVD of them in action. Home, away or individual meeting - anything would be of interest. Thanks.
