  1. The Russian league has started, with the first meeting between Togliatti and Vladivostok being dominated by the Laguta brothers: http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/19/liga-rosyjska-mega-lada-wostok-4547-miedzinski-pomogl-w-sukc/ One or the other of the brothers winning nine of the fifteen races, including eight of the last ten.
  2. Former Edinburgh Monarch Thomas H Jonasson is the "wild card" for the Swedish Grand Prix: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/03/thomas-h-jonasson-z-dzika-karta/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1G1TSEA_ENUK335%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&usg=ALkJrhi4u5QsKtqxHWXi1Ah-MI-pdQSb6Q Eastbourne's Simon Gustafsson and Poole's Dennis Andersson are the "track reserves".
  3. Those funhog types in Zielona Gora are going for a trip to Rzeszow on 29 May 2011, but not for them the rigours of a coach trip, as the Falubaz supporters' club "Only Falubaz" charters a Boeing 737 from LOT: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1R2SUNC_enGB359%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/18/samolotem-z-babimostu-na-mecz-pge-marma-stelmet-falubaz/&usg=ALkJrhjxlWk4Kpxwl2IK5HOeVHUbHoN4uQ So popular was this initiative that tickets were snapped up within four hours of the offer: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1R2SUNC_enGB359%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/19/nie-ma-juz-miejsc-na-lot-kibicow-falubazu-do-rzeszowa-bedzie/&usg=ALkJrhjdokPoUAGhbbCzGYauQeFwcAyZHQ No problem, charter another plane: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1R2SUNC_enGB359%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/19/nie-bedzie-drugiego-samolotu-dla-kibicow-falubazu/&usg=ALkJrhjZ36Eo_427oc5StFUs7C17LCZGaA

Polish Extraleague Rnd 6 Sunday 22nd May

Well, no confusion in Zielona Gora. "Tribune K" is open for the visit of Leszno: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4SUNC_enGB359GB359%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/21/trybuna-k-otwarta-wszystkie-bilety-na-mecz-stelmet-falubaz-u/&usg=ALkJrhjP5gddaoBqrN9faGZPUID5aDgFsg The only problem now appears to be an ill-timed closure of Wroclaw Street.

You need to think about it again. The first meeting was in Gdansk and resulted in a shock home defeat for the coastal team.

Gdansk versus Gniezno. I'm not sure if the TVP deal extends to the lower leagues. The Ekstraliga is a bit like football's Premier League. As far as I can tell it operates as a company owned by its constituent clubs.

    Fly Falubaz Airways

I gather the second plane has had to be cancelled due to cost. It appears that the first plane included contributions from various sponsors to limit the cost to fans and as these ticket prices were already set, the dosh could hardly be distributed between two flights: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dfalubaz%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%26rlz%3D1G1TSEA_ENUK335%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&sl=pl&u=http://www.zuzel.zgora.pl/index.php3

    Russian League

Another Russian league meeting today, as Sayfutdinov's Balakovo thumped visitors Oktiabrski: http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/20/liga-rosyjska-sk-turbina-sk-oktiabrskij-6525-tylko-3-biegi-s/ Such was the dominence of the homesters, that they were able to give Sayfutdinov much of the meeting off.

It seems that the Zielona Gora authorities have authorised the use of "Tribune K" on Sunday, although they don't appear to have officially informed No 1 Falubaz funhog Robert Dowhan: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1R2SUNC_enGB359%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/20/trybuna-k-otwarta-jednak-nie-wedlug-roberta-dowhana/&usg=ALkJrhiFjZ7tkAhTG_r-iF_mixffheyVzw

Would have a 7.91 average and not the 6.52 Berwick got him on last season. Only Przemyslaw Pawlicki is exempt from the 8-11 meeting rule.

Is it confirmed now? Last I read there was some wrangling going on between Opole and Tarnow over the terms of his loan. As I understood it, Tarnow were looking to recoup most of the dosh they forwarded to Rempala during the close season. It is standard procedure for clubs in Poland to advance monies to riders in order to assist with preparation for the season. It's not a situation that Gorzow think much of, especially after coughing over a tidy sum to the now injured Hans Andersen. I think it is also the root of the trouble between Rybnik and Jesper B Monberg.

I wouldn't have thought so. Last season's Champions League final was staged on a Saturday and as the dates for major football events tend to be announced well in advance, it would seem unlikely that the date for the final wasn't known before the Czech GP was scheduled. Consider, the 2010-2011 football season, in terms of the Champions League, probably started in July, so the final venue and date would be known in the middle of the 2010 speedway season. To illustrate my point, the 2012 Champions League final will be staged on 19 May 2012 (a Saturday) at the Allianz Arena in Munich and the Euro 2012 final is scheduled to be staged at Kiev's re-constructed Central Stadium on 1 July 2012 (a Sunday). Indeed, the date for the final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup is already known: 13 July 2014.

Still no official word on the infamous "Tribune K" in Zielona Gora ahead of the meeting with Leszno, but the professor who conducted tests at the stadium last weekend suggests it should be okay to use, so long as the upper four rows of the stand are left empty: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4SUNC_enGB359GB359%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/20/trybuna-k-bedzie-czynna-ale-bez-czterech-rzedow/&usg=ALkJrhhoBCm-deQFNx9cEqMHSuMU_K3nMg However, Alstal, the constructors of "Tribune K", seem to contradict the professor by using his data to declare that the whole stand is safe: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4SUNC_enGB359GB359%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/20/alstal-trybuna-k-bezpieczna/&usg=ALkJrhj7WdoEeNFnniG_C8NyGxdSsAVhFQ

They've all been staged at Prague's Marketa Stadium. Which means the Marketa has staged fourteen Grands Prix and that's a record. It's a record the Marketa shares with the Polonia Stadium in Bydgoszcz. Of course, the Polonia Stadium is no longer a Grand Prix destination, so the Marketa will stand alone in the records after Saturday. The stadium is in the Brevnov district of Prague and is near to the baroque Brevnov Monastery. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 and the track is 353 metres long. The track record is 62.40 seconds and is held by Greg Hancock. Greg Hancock set that record on 17 May 1997 during the inaugural Czech Grand Prix, which he won on the way to the world championship. In the Czech language Prague is called "Praha". "Prah" in Czech literally means "threshold". According to legend Prague was founded by a princess called Libuse. And together with her ploughman husband Premysl she founded the first ruling dynasty of the Czechs, the Premyslids. St Wenceslas - svateho Vaclav - was a member of the Premyslid dynasty. He's better known as "Good King Wenceslas" from the popular Christmas Carol, although he was never a king. Bohemia was a mere dukedom in his time and he was the Duke. Until his brother Boleslav (Boleslav the Cruel) had him assassinated in 935, that is. From Prague to Copenhagen Rudolf II was the last Holy Roman emperor to make Prague his imperial capital. A patron of the arts and science, Rudolf II invited many prominent artists, alchemists, astronomers and philosophers to his court. Among those invited was the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe, who sported a false nose. Tycho Brahe studied at the University of Copenhagen.

    Russian League

Grigory Laguta's first appearance seems to have resulted in an exclusion under the two minute rule. I'm guessing that the No 7 position has no "programmed" rides and is a "tactical reserve". That said, it is just a guess, but his appearances do seem to have started in Ht 6, where both Grigory and Tarasenko had the same helmet colour on and both were excluded (weird, since surely one of the two had to be wearing the right colour?), which is rather late if programmed.
  25. The way I see it, if BSI are pushing for Ward to get a "wild card" place, they can do it for one of their GPs. That is to say Cardiff, Copenhagen and Gothenburg. The rest are all promoted by third parties and they should be allowed to name a "wild card" of their chosing. BSI made such a song and dance about changing the criteria and yet so far we've had Balinski in Leszno, Jonasson in Gothenburg and now Kus in Prague. Why should the likes of Miedzinski miss out in Torun? Don't say because Kolodziej got a nomination. Nicki P got a nomination. Andreas Jonsson got a nomination.
