  1. I think it's about time I paid another visit so could take them with me. It's only about an hour's drive away.
  2. Thanks britmet, hadn't thought of that. At least they will go to helping out speedway. Will get them sorted and contact museum.
  3. Just wondering at the moment, what do you do with your old Speedway Stars? I have copies going back 20/25 years, not complete due to whim of newsagent. About time I reduced my collection but what do I do with them? Is the recycling bin going to have a lot of Stars or?

    Reading Speedway

As a member of the Reading Speedway supporters club I helped build Smallmead Stadium. I used to turn up at the weekends with others to do whatever jobs needed doing. My first job was to remove bits of glass and metal from the newly formed terracing, the remains of the tip that it was. Went on to help lay the cables for the pits, creosote the front wall, unload the concrete fencing from the lorry, painted the safety fence springs and posts etc.. Even helped Eddie Lack, the track man, with track prep at times. Happy days, only too willing to help out, thought at the time it would be there for ever. How wrong was I. Still sorely missed.

    Photographers At Iwade

I would suggest you contact the Dragons. They had a photographer that covered their events and produced a CD of photos. She also covered other events and practices there.
  6. I may be way out of touch but can remember the days when teams had a number 8 that they could drop in to cover for injuries or underperforming riders. Has this been dropped? Was a good idea IMO.

    Rider Insurance

Thanks for the replies, will give a try.
  8. What rider insurances are there that you can recommend (amateur rider)?
  9. Excuse me if I have this wrong but I always thought Mildenhall speedway was mainly an afternoon event. Given a couple of hours for racing and maybe a couple more for practice/try outs/grading track etc that's only 8 or 9pm at most. Where does the 3am come into it. Adding to that the time I took my son to a practice session there at least a couple of times during the day the ground shook from the planes going over, far far worse than anything four speedway bikes could do.

    Getting Started

Try Sittingbourne (Iwade). They have a mini track with hire bikes, twist and go up to 125s in full size frames, and and can hire out kit as well. Also two very good instructors.

    Kent 2013

Congrats to all at Kent Kings for getting a new club up and running. Good day meeting up with old friends. Just a few gripes. Speaker system crap. I was on 3/4 bend and couldn't hear a thing, got no results and no info as to what was going on. Even people I spoke to that were in the main stand didn't hear everything. Track conditions, especially 3rd bend, spoilt what could have been good racing. Lost the top surface quickly and became very rutted. No one allowed near the riders viewing area, the kids love to see the riders off track. And last the jobs worth who told the lady near me she wasn't allowed her own chair because it was a danger in case of fire (on the 3/4 bend, come on). Then told the kids playing on the grass bank to get away from the fence for safety reasons (how far is it to the track?). A nice stadium and I hope you do well but a few improvements please. Any chance of results, times and team changes.

    Use Of Titanium

I have been told by a top tuner that for the price of a titanium conrod he could buy three standard rods. If he then changed a rod every other service it would still work out cheaper than with the titanium rod.

    Rear Guard Clearance?

This is the problem with the upturned guards. Look at how Andreas Jonsson has done his or contact Rob Tutton of the Dragons who does a similar modification. Or you can change the guard for a rounded type which is easy to lower and give the correct clearance.
  14. Just had to get a couple of bearings in a hurry. Went to local stockist and was shocked at the price. Where is the best place to get bearings?
  15. Barry is nearly always at the Sittingbourne track, when running, offering help and advice. Next one on the 15th.
