  1. I'm sure I remember doing the British Final when it was at Coventry and Steady had a run-off to qualify before the meeting
  2. don't worry,it's being alternated north then south each year...
  3. I like the sound of that,Kings Lynn is a great race track,Jon and Buster now have one of the most improved venues going and a lot of hard work has gone into the place and the facilities are getting better and better,a great reward for what they've done if you ask me,supporting these ventures is good for Speedway over here Shame Vojens gets the 2 meetings again though, shame that one wasn't shared around this year
  4. Billy's crash in the Semi looked nasty, that was one of Billy's last meetings i think, who did the "camera" work baffles me!
  5. Dont know if it's been on before but USA Speedway tonight (22 March) on Motors TV at 8 but repeated later etc
  6. I think one thing to consider in the GP series as it is now, with having so many meetings would be to drop your worst score,it may make it more interesting?
  7. "I agree, Jeff. Would the superstars of speedway or any professional rider, take the risks they do if they were not paid what they consider they worth to their employers. Most of them are like the rest of us in that they want to provide the best for themselves and their families. Basically they are guys doing a job they enjoy doing and which pays them well." ????????? I must say as an ex rider i take a bit of offence at some of these statements, there are many aspects to racing, when you sign a contract at the start of the year, you don't know completeley what you're in for.Yes it's a job but like any job there are good and bad days, and believe me sometimes when you're in a rut, blowing engines, damaging bikes etc why carry on the next week? You don't go to an everyday job and pay as you leave your desk do you?You have moral obligation too in the sport you know. This thing swings both ways you know. Maybe i wouldn't of done it if i wasn't getting paid for it as there are far too many risks as i am aware of every second of every day,but if us guys chose not too then there would be no product would there? Also it's your choice as a supporter to pay to go through the turnstile so if you don't like it then stay away.I personally would like to think you have some obligation to everyone previously mentioned above, and it i do feel that i appreciated the people who essentially paid my wages and entertaining the public certainly did NOT rate a big zero in my book, tell me something for as an instance at both Elite and Pemier level at Oxford how much was i "worth" and to who when i stayed over more than once after Friday's meeting, took my bikes to an event unloaded and helped set up a display and met the public for the day signing things etc?another slant would be how much would i be "worth" scoring a 15 point maximum away from home at a track in trecherous conditions earning less money than say another rider may take home for maybe 4 or 5 points? Or paying my own way and board to go to a fundraiser? I'm not trying to go on here trying to make myself look good i'm just giving sugesstions to try to get my point across.Worth has a number of meanings,to a rider,a fan,a team Manager but for what it's worth we have our Speedway which we should be thankful for and for what it's worth i wouldn't of changed a thing, stop griping about things, half of which you know not a great deal of and try to be positive, there are some riders who care about the public, and i am also thankfull to those who have helped me after my injury, like i say it works both ways doesn't it?
  8. Cardiff is an expensive weekend,i don't know if people could afford the two?it also has no roof and i think that Cardiff has much more of a better setting in my opinion,ok after few more hundred's of millions of our tax payers' hard earned cash the Wembley site would have that Sports village type feel about it but after a stay in the area, the outer surroundings were far from desireable and it's real congested at the best of times the traffic is mayhem, goodness knows what it's going to be like at the Olympics,if that works out then maybe there's hope on that front. I feel Cardiff will always have that sparkle
  9. ref's a disgrace, always has been,Nikki came straight across from the start, most other times he's usually got his nose in front and gets away with it but this time he wasn't so quick off the mark and ran into Leigh and Bjarne,he even clouted Hans on the way,it's the refs call but smirking up at the crowd walking into the tunnel wont win him any fans. How the ref has always been in charge of FIM meetings when Tony Steele was actually ruled out one year is beyond me,maybe something will finally be done now,a top intenation meeting has been ruined for some guys and we have a false result,i agree,Nikki should of been excluded for tape touching too and shouldn't of even been in the semis, not his fault but there you go...
  10. yep i'll take the trip up,it's gotta be a no-brainer for me,should be a good nite, let's hope it's huge and raises loads(and people can always record/Sky plus the ELRC after all eh) LOL
  11. JIM you could obviously send it to Bernard, but why not say pass it around the tracks via the supporters clubs, get it all signed up and auction it off at the end end of the season or summat? Frame it up in an oversize frame and get the signiautures round the sides? Whadya reckon? LOL
  12. I think its gonna be a case of "as you were" just think, the track will have a 4th day of racing on it because of the practice etc.Dougie has his work cut out,in this heat it's hard to get enough water into it too,25 heats is asking alot-i'm surprised it didn't break-up,the base probably got so baked that it didn't happen As for "Blue Groove" it's best left for riders to see it,when you turn in on it it's like scalectric-it pulls you round and grips pretty hard!! if you pull dirt over it,yuo get wheelspin then when you go through the loose dirt, the tyre grabs and the bike pulls hard and the fence comes up pretty quick!! maybe the race-off or the final should of been held elsewhere? maybe not such a "slickfest" to suit the danes (and wide enough to accomodate Anderson's dangerous behaviour!)
  13. Tony has given so much in his reign, there have been equally as many challengers, anyone in the GP'S can take a race from him,as for IVAN winning 10 GP'S,why not call it 20?no,not in my opinion,it's definateley far more brutal now-i've also seen much of the older footage, there is far less time to think now and still some of the moves amaze me,the bikes are far more complex now with so many combinations and set-ups,nothing is standard anymore, its not just a case of putting a bigger sprocket on and voila! some guys go smaller-work that one out?? lookat machinery from the 70's and you'll no doubt see the same clutch lever etc on virtually every bike, far more goes into it now,an enormous amount behind the scenes. My mind is made up for sure,ps did IVAN commend TONY etc when the michrophone was on? my apologies as i have only has e quick look at the article?
  14. it definateley is more cut and thrust nowadays, the video footage of years gone by looks like slow motion sometimes! as for someone's comments of lay-downs being easier to ride, well that's down to rider preference-i found them harder at first actually, but so what if they are-its the same for everyone.Tony has had a transision to deal with-especially as it was a change that no-one even knew where it was going cos it was a delve into unchartered waters in 10 or 20 years time people will be having the same discussions, and if tony gets to 7 then that's a record and people who weren't there will be hard to be persuaded any other way and we don't know when he'll stop yet-this is his best form yet and he may even improve!! so then what's it gonna take for people to make their minds up? a GP series means you ride the best every time,a qualification series sometimes means you only have half a feild of genuine contenders-remember that the other half are in another qualifier im in awe of all still, there's no getting away from that
  15. firstly i feel they are both the greatest in their own day,but suppose Tony wins 7th? well 7 is greater than 6 so i guess its game set and match! after all why hasnt anyone mentioned ivan vs ove fundin in a head to head-cos ivan's won more than fundin!! (c'mon who are we kidding,Ivan's never gonna say it's Tony that's number 1 is he,and it's his privalige not to! ) as for rolling starts we'll never know and i hope we never will as they were ruled out as deemed to be unfair, like the other stuff i mentioned and even if is is a kind of invitational series,we are watching the best every week-who else would you put in? you put the next best 8 qualifiers in when the worst 8 in this series meet the next 8 challengers in a race off and who would be prepared to dump a hefty bet on any of them lifting the title? no thanks i'd rather see a quality field rather than the old finals (which i can remember!) where you had a few absolute "no hopers" usually from obscure countries who got in through the "back door" with easier qualifying rounds. There were really only 4 or 5 favourites in the one-offs,not unlike now, would anyone disagree? someone brought up Loram and Pdersen winning on being consistent but who would argue that either didn't have the abiity to win a one-off? Another thing, would egon muller or jerzey wotshisname ever win a grand prix series? my guess is they'd have people wishing they could "invite" someone else in,i wonder who Ivan would have in? Tony may well come out on top whatever Tony has also gone from uprights to lay-downs,and race times are so much quicker demanding quicker reaction times and more aggresive "do or die" moves. i'm sounding biased maybe, but i've heard of many tricks used in days gone by that simply are denied now-looking back you say to yourself "my god how naive!" Look at when tyres were changed a few years back and people sofened them, the match results spoke for themselves and rules chaned and we all had the same tyres given to us on the night Like i say if Tony wins 7,then he'd re-write the history books and go down as the greatest, except for those who feel the "good old days" were best and to them it'd be Ivan, and to those who feel the "vintage era" was best it's Ove for sure, each to their own, total heroes all of them, total respect, total admiration, anyway that's my next ten cents 'nuff said LOL
