The latest estimate of Birmingham’s population is the 2021 population census estimate. There are 1,144,900 people living in Birmingham according to the census.
I think you need to look at the demographic of the city and look at the growth of places such as Tamworth and Lichfield to understand why the club struggles to get decent crowds.
Then add on the fact that very few people actually like the sport anymore, which is probably the main issue.

Looks like the quality of the opposition might attract floating fans rather than that of the Brummies 7, if some of the predictions are to be believed.

Steve Worrall it is then.

I am just getting me coat...
No mention of tent Poles then?

Will Prem speedway be enough bring the lost fans back to PB? Will Wolves fans come over in droves?
It'll be interesting to say the least.

A lot of incidents in ice hockey are intended to hurt the opposition, it's part of the game, but what happened to Adam Johnson was something else. Why on earth would a hockey player lift his leg that high? Absolutely crazy, I'm not surprised he's been charged. He actually did something to the lad around 10 years previously, his leg was lower but the way he went in was totally over the top.

It won't take them long to start the work.
There is no spectator facilities to build. No infrastructure, its all there.
All they have to do is lay a dog track, fence, hare on the infield right in front of a huge Stand bars, restaurants and Hotel. The Kennels will be a simple build adjacent to stables.
Perhaps some animal rights protesters could get wind of the plan and slow things down a bit......

Accident repair. I drove into the back of a bus when I was reading the advert.

Sad, very sad. Went there many times in the 70s & 80s. Jubilee meeting and the Superbike 6 event in 78, Brum's first BL away win in 79 and the 4TT finals in 80 were probably the standouts for me.
Hope Wolves are successful in their search of a new home, good luck. We don't want to see their fans suffering for years like Cradley's have.

It's baffling really. The Heathens were the jewel in the crown of British speedway and Dudley council have ignored that fact for nigh on 30 years. Crazy.

It's snobbery, MSM in this country doesn't like motorcycles or motorcycle sport. They only mention the TT if there's a fatality. BSB is well supported but is never mentioned, WSBK and MotoGP events are well attended but again, nothing.

Not large crowds in total, granted..
But it does suggest that a losing team could impact attendances quite a bit % wise if those fans in particular became disillusioned....
Many tracks have a fair % of fans who can just go along to watch the racing which can help them during a poor run of performances, as they turn up anyway..
It was also noticeable the age demographic of those in attendance proudly wearing their yellow and red, and, sadly, there will be other reasons as to their less regular visits too I would think as the years have gone by and continue to do so..
Certainly the "oldest" crowd I have seen at Speedway...
Although a few will run them close....
It does certainly seem like it has been a "hard sell" for all Birmingham Promoters after the "honeymoon period" ended after a few years of their return..
You cannot knock those currently in charge for their efforts though can you?
21 years away took its toll on the supporter demographic.

5 hours ago, Deano said:It's a bit like Birmingham City closing and wondering why Aston Villa can't attract their floating supporters. Speedway is a club sport and only a small percentage will travel to a track just to watch a match. Which is why I've never understood, if for example a Rotherham speedway team was being investigated Sheffield would never allow it to get off the ground. Even if it mean't long term more fans through the gate. People I know from Solihull won't go as it's a Birmingham team, my friends don't come from Birmingham. Perhaps speedway a long time ago should have gone like county cricket and covered a larger area rather than stop neighbouring local clubs potentially opening.
That goes back a long way, there was significant opposition to Birmingham reopening in 1971, but it turned out to be a roaring success and attracted fans from neighbouring clubs, whilst Brum fans visited other local teams. I remember jumping into a neighbour's Reliant van on many Saturday nights for a trip to Cradley, Coventry or Stoke. Those were the days as they say.

Brummies 2024...
in SGB Premiership Speedway League

The point, the reason why they struggle for crowds as the traditional speedway supporting demograph doesn't live as close to the club as it used to. If they can attract a more ethnic based crowd, then fine.
