Who can take the R / R rides for Brennan? -
It rained for most of the morning (not heavy, but constant light rain). It stopped about 1-00. If the meeting had been scheduled for tonight, it might have had a chance, but not for a lunchtime meeting.

To be fair, Thompson looked pretty good at Belle Vue on Monday. -

Sounded like a great meeting, Good to see Bewley starting to come good as well. -
So sorry for Wolves fans and the sport in general. A league with potentially five teams just won't happen. At least there will be no doubling up as there won't be enough teams soon to double up with!

Ipswich v Belle Vue 13th April
Garry1603 replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Mark Lemon has got work to do with Wright obviously. Seems very childish based on the comments on here. -
It's a magnificent book Tony, well done to all who helped with it's creation. Whatever people's views on PC and recent fall outs, it's still a great read and insight into 70s / 80s speedway. Thank you!

That's got BV's season going then. Good performances all down the order. Special shout out to Anders Rowe who looks a decent addition in the RS position - can he replace Mulford permanenty? -

After the first leg display, the home attendance will be badly affected I fear. -

An excellent meeting with many great races. Doyle was a worthy winner, as several others could easily have taken it, but his experience of GP finals may have helped when it counted. The 5 rider semi / 6 rider final worked well and the BV staff deserve great credit for the slick presentation. Not sure about the reason to give the two track reserves two 'match races' but that's being picky. -

A good meeting with decent racing. Well done the Tigers, they fully deserved their win and as has been said before, they look the team to beat this season. Having said that, there were a lot of positives for Belle Vue as well, with Kurtz, Lidsey, Blodorn and Brennan all having their moments. Undoubtably Bewley will score far heavier in the future, so I'm not that downhearted. Spotted Chris Holder sat in the grandstand behind us as well. -

Just started raining here at 4.50. To be fair, the clouds are very grey and it looks like it's in for the night, so well done Met Office (sadly) -

Sadly the right decision, although there's still no rain here and hasn't been all day (7 miles from track). Feel for the BV promotion who worked miracles to get such a world class field, there's no doubt that it won't be anywhere as near as good when it's restaged. -

Still dull but not raining in South Manchester at 12-15 (7 miles from the track) -
A great presenter and years ahead of his time. RIP Dickie

Thank you Ian. Most of us are watching this (sad) story evolve from the outside. Inside information like this is very interesting. .......... and can I reiterate I was a massive PC fan as a rider.

For Mia's sake, I am pleased that he has apologised and hopefully a line can be drawn under this sad affair. Whether it changes people's opinion of him I'm not sure, I think that the damage has been done. However, I think that bringing up a 35 year feud was a rather petty way to somehow justify his actions, and whether he knew about Steve's cancer or not, the comments were disgraceful. Thank you to Tony Mac for being an intermediary in this, it can't have been an easy conversation.

Sadly, it was announced tonight that Steve Casey has passed away after a battle with cancer. A wonderful man, a wonderful speedway FAN. After his riding career ended after spells at Ellesmere Port and Newport he returned to his spiritual home at Belle Vue where he performed a superb job as a presentation manager. I was proud to know him when he worked with Allied Dunbar (along with Chris Morton) in the 90s, and used to love our chats at the NSS every meeting in recent years. He always had time for people, and there's no greater compliment that I can give him. It's a lovely coincidence that he passed away as his team are finally the champions again. RIP Steve. A speedway legend who will be missed by many. Thoughts are with his family and friends.

I loved PC as a rider and he was always approachable to young fans like me. I eagerly awaited his book and read it from cover to cover when it arrived. It was well worth the wait and gave an honest, entertaining review of his life and times. I especially liked the first third of the book when he talked about his childhood and his schoolboy friends. However, I have to say that, following the disgraceful treatment of a true gentleman like Steve Casey has changed my opinion of him completely. He suffered a stroke several years ago and I am sure that he still has medical issues. The 'old' PC wouldn't have stooped as low as this, I'm sure. So sad that he has ended up a bitter old man, his legacy is in tatters for me. I was going to read his book again in a few months, now it will sit on my bookshelf forever.

Sheffield vs. Belle Vue Grand Final 2nd Leg 13/10/22
Garry1603 replied to TTT's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Some great drama with plenty for the fans to discuss, speedway at it's best. When speedway gets it right it's still a fantastic spectacle. The celebrations afterwards by fans, riders and management showed how much it meant to them. I much prefer a great team match than individual meetings. As far as the matches go, yes there were controversial incidents and none of the referee's decisions were easy, but let's concentrate on the positives. Well done the Aces after 29 long years and Sheffield will be contenders again very soon, I'm sure. -
