    Stoke 2013

You are dead right about Tommy having only ridden for just over a year and you have to bear in mind he was in the NL within about six months of first putting his leg over a 500 and his points were scored from the main body of the team rather than reserve. He has got plenty of potential and is very committed. I think Stoke would be pleasantly surprised if they gave him a place.

Training Tracks 1st Weekend In Feb 2013

Scunthorpe Sunday 2nd February 12.30pm-4.30pm - more details on the Scunthorpe thread
  5. Hi there, sorry for the delay in replying. I would suggest email, text or Facebook if you are ever wanting a prompt reply. With regards to bike hire at Scunthorpe the only options are using the 125s and 150s on the mini track with Wayne Carter (All inclusive cost of £70) or, if you have ridden on the minitrack or had another speedway experience, Wayne may hire you one of his 500s for a training session on the main track. At present Wayne has two four hour sessions planned for 19th January and 9th February where the cost is £50 for riders with their own bikes and £150 for up to two people who want to hire a 500. Later in the year he may revert to full day training schools (9am to 5pm with lunch provided plus some classroom work on bike maintenance/set-ups) where the 2012 prices were £85 for riders with their own bikes and £195 for those who want to hire a bike. The bikes are always in first class condition and all his training schools are limited to around 12 people in total to ensure plenty of track time and one-to-one tuition. I'm afraid bike hire is not available for practices and amateur meetings on the main track. If you need any further information do not hesitate to get in touch. Cheers, Richard
  6. Sadly the weather has done us again. Heavy frosts followed by heavy rain mean it is still sloppy mud so tomorrow's practice has been cancelled.
  7. Next Sunday, following the main event of the weekend (our 75th Amateur Meeting on Saturday) we have another of our weekly winter practices. It runs from 12.30pm - 4.30pm and the costs just £15 for riders who also take part in Saturday's amateur meeting. For those who aren't riding on Saturday the costs are £35 and £25 for under 15s. Signing-on is from 11.30am but the gates are open long before then. Everyone is welcome including grasstrackers, shorttrackers. sidecars etc. and whilst bookings aren't required you can get weather/track updates and information by calling/texting me on 07832-402167.
  8. Afraid that despite working on the track for most of the day the track couldn't be repaired enough to get tomorrow's practice on. very sorry about that. Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us next week.
  9. Gutted to find tonight that yesterday's lovely track had more frost in it than we thought. With it still coming out this afternoon it means we will struggle to get the track fit for racing by tomorrow morning. A more realistic target is for practice on Sunday so that is the plan. So in short I'm afraid we have cancelled tomorrow's amateur meeting. Very sorry about that but better this than find out tomorrow morning that we can't race on what we have. Hopefully we'll see a few of the entrants at practice on Sunday.
  10. Scunthorpe Speedway's 74th amateur meeting will take place on Saturday 17th November (11am first race). Due to the success of our meetings and the large numbers we have been getting recently and the prospect of more junior riders we are going to effectively have two meetings. The first with the Open, Support and Youth 500 classes will start at 11am (signing on from 9.30am to 10.30am). Then hopefully no later, and ideally earlier than 2.30pm we will run a second meeting for the Youth 80, 125 and 250 classes plus the Novice Class. The split is a trial and is based on the type of track each class prefers. There are classes for all standards from raw novice to Premier League reserve whilst there are four youth classes. Whilst I expect the split meetings to be popular with the riders (, more riders can be accommodated, less time between rides and better track preparation) we desperately need people's help to pull this off. Quite simply we can't expect our limited number of volunteers to stand out on the centre green for six hours. We need people (riders, mechanics, friends and family members) to help out run the half of the meeting they aren't involved in. Quite simply we need flag marshalls who can wave a flag if the red light comes on and perhaps help at the starting tapes/pit gate. Hopefully each half meeting will only last two or three hours but there is no way we can attempt to pull this off without additional help. Riders can book a place or ask further questions by e-mailing me (richard@scunthorpespeedway.com), contacting me on Facebook (facebook.com/rh1967), or texting/calling 07832-402167. If you call and I am unavailable (e.g. work) please leave a message and I will get back to you at the earliest opportunity. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For anyone who isn't aware our meetings provide at least five programmed rides and everyone gets to ride in a final. There are trophies for the top three in each class and naturally we have a paramedic, first aiders and ambulance in attendance. Hot drinks will be available and we have RM Race Spares (07403-334582) in attendance. Riders do not need new silencers or mudguards and can ride on day licenses (with no additional charge). Positions in all classes will be decided in the finals with every rider qualifying for one. THE WINNER OF EACH FINAL ADVANCES TO THE NEXT. (e.g. Winner of the 'E' Final advances to the 'D' Final etc. etc.). The Open Class usually sees National League standard riders taking part along with those close to break into that league whilst the Novice Class includes riders from complete beginners to those who can usually get a full slide on. The Support Class is now seen as an intermediate class where riders can challenge themselves against better riders without making the full step up to the Open Class. Summer Championship points are scored in the following manner: 16 points for 1st, 15 for 2nd etc down to 1 point for 16th (although that would be increased for all rounds if we had more than 16 riders for a class on one day). At the moment we are expecting five of the summer dates to be for the Summer Championship and riders will be able to drop one round for the championship so if all five rounds run then top four will count. If only four rounds run then it will be top three etc. etc. However, only riders who compete in the maximum number of rounds (four out of five or three out of four etc. will be eligible for championship trophies) Helmet colours are required but can be borrowed (please give advance notice if possible) whilst dirt deflectors are compulsory on all speedway bikes except in the Novice and Youth 125s classes. If anyone has any questions then please just let me know. Our popular Winter Series (which had all six meetings run on their original dates last winter) will run on the following dates: 2012 Saturday 17th November Saturday 8th December 2013 Saturday 5th January Saturday 26th January Saturday 16th February Saturday 16th March
  11. The lineup is on Facebook as get very little response from this site. The Open Class lineup so far is: David Holt Oliver Greenwood Andrew Blackburn Danny Phillips Shaun Tedham Charlie Saunders Emerson Jones Arron Mogridge Josh Bates Liam Carr Paul Cooper Shane Waldron

    Nice work Barney!

Team Of The Year Pl 2012

The following team could have been built for 42.45 last March and would now require 52.49 Ben Barker 9.87 (9.83) Jason Doyle 8.00 (9.17) Craig Cook 7.50 (8.50) Rohan Tungate 5.00 (6.55) Adam Roynon 4.54 (7.07) Ashley Birks 3.81 (5.59) Richie Worrall 3.73 (5.78) Can anyone produce a team with a higer end of season total?
  14. Scunthorpe Speedway's 75th amateur meeting will take place on Saturday 8th December. Classes to be run: Open Class - typically full of National League and occasional Premier League standard riders Support Class - for those riders between the Open and Novice Classes. Novice Class - riders range from first-timers who aren't skidding to those who have a full skid-on in the right track conditions. Typically riders who are winning races under 70 seconds need to move into the Support Class. Youth 500 - A narrow class for 14-16 year olds (although 15-year olds can ride in the adult classes) who have upgraded their SCB licence to a Y500 Youth 250 - This class has suddenly strengthed with a hand full of Y125 riders having made the jump up Youth 125 - Previously the entry class which has gone from strength to strength and regularly gets double-figure entrants now. Youth 80 - The new entry class which is gradually building in numbers The plan is to once again split the meeting into two halves with the following schedule: 9.30-10.30am Signing-on for Open, Support and Youth 500 classes 11.00 - 2.00pm Qualifying rides plus finals for Open, Support and Youth classes It is hoped that people involved with the second half of the meeting will assist with the running of the first half as we can not expect flag marshalls to do six hours. 9.30am - 1.30pm Signing-on for Youth 80, 125 and 250 classes plus Novice class 2.00 - 5.00pm Qualifying rides plus finals for Youth 80, 125 and 250 classes plus Novice class It is hoped that people involved with the first half of the meeting will assist with the running of the second half as we can not expect flag marshalls to do six hours. The split is a trial and is based on the type of track each class prefers. Hopefully it will cut the time down between rides (hopefully six in two and a half hours or thereabouts), make it easier to provide a track that is suitable for the class in question and enable us to cope with the large numbers we have ben experiencing lately. The cafe should be open and fuel and oil is available. Riders do not need new silencers or mudguards and can ride on day licenses (with no additional charge). Positions in all classes will be decided in the finals with every rider qualifying for one. THE WINNER OF EACH FINAL ADVANCES TO THE NEXT. (e.g. Winner of the 'E' Final advances to the 'D' Final etc. etc.). Riders can ride in as many or as few meetings as they like but Winter Series points are scored in the following manner: 16 points for 1st, 15 for 2nd etc down to 1 point for 16th (although that would be increased for all rounds if we had more than 16 riders for a class on one day). With five Winter Series dates then top four will count. The remaining Winter Series dates are: Saturday 8th December Saturday 5th January Saturday 26th January Saturday 16th February Saturday 16th March
  15. Spaces available for 15th December. Last chance before the New Year
  16. Scunthorpe Speedway's mini training track is the best place for riders to learn the art of sliding. Forget 500cc bikes and big tracks! They can come later. The 92m boarded circuit at the Eddie Wright Raceway is the perfect shape to encourage riders to get the back wheel sliding whilst Wayne Carter who runs regular public session has proven over the last five years that he is an outstanding tutor. Whilst Steve Worrall, Luke Chessell and so many of the current crop of under-16s have had their first speedway experiences around the training track probably the best advert for it is 15-year old Max Clegg who has spent more time than anyone on the track and has fantastic balance and ability to turn a bike. So if you are wanting to take up the sport or simply have an afternoon giving the sport a go then head to Scunthorpe. The majority who attend the Wayne Carter sessions use the club equipment (bikes, boots and clothing) which is available for an all-inclusive price of £70. So don't be afraid, most attending can be classed as novices and there is lots of track time. The club bikes vary in engine size from 125cc to 150cc with the slightly larger-engined bikes offering enough horse power for even the most skilled riders. Also thanks to Mike Cowley of FB Race Plates 2012 has seen us have plenty of steel shoes so that all can use them (rather than wearing out the soles of the boots). Riders using their own bikes are also welcome to join in for a contribution of £25 whilst the track is available for practice when Wayne isn't present for just £20 (please call to book). Places for Wayne's sessions, which usually run from 12pm to 4pm, are strictly limited so do need to be booked and that can be done by calling me on 07832-402167 or e-mailing me at richard@scunthorpespeedway.com (Like everyone at Scunthorpe I do this on a voluntary basis so if I'm at work you will probably get my voicemail so please leave a message and I will call you back). Up and coming 2012/3 dates with Wayne Carter are: Sunday 2nd December - fully booked Saturday 15th December Sunday 20th January Saturday 2nd February Sunday 17th February Saturday 2nd March Sunday 17th March Saturday 30th March Sunday 14th April Saturday 27th April Sunday 12th May Saturday 25th May Sunday 9th June Saturday 22nd June Sunday 7th July Saturday 20th July Sunday 4th August Saturday 17th August Sunday 1st September Saturday 14th September Sunday 29th September Saturday 12th October Sunday 27th October Saturday 9th November Sunday 24th November Saturday 7th December The track can also be booked for groups with the cost being £600 for a maximum of 12 riders. More info plus pictures, videos and feedback can all be found at http://www.scunthorp...ay.com/mini.php
  17. We do run in the Midland Development League and run 13 high-standard amateur meetings (sometimes very high standard) a year. We are also looking at the possiblity of running National League standard meetings so we can keep our very popular bank holiday double-headers. Youth development will remain a massive part of what we do at Scunthorpe.
  18. Thank you for your very kind words Mr C. There has been some lovely words of support on a difficult weekend and it is all very humbling. I really do appreciate them all and if I could have foreseen the problems and prevented everyone from travelling I would have. Sorry to everyone and I will do my best to repay the support I have been shown and do my best to live up to those that have been written above.
  19. Afraid tomorrow's practice is off due to some track damage/maintenance issues that have become apparent today. Once remedial work has been done we expect it to be business as normal from next Sunday, 25th November (12.30-4.30pm).
  20. 60 riders (24 of them in the youth classes) and up to 99 races in six hours. Fingers crossed the new improved format works Mr C
  21. Hi June, sorry I have only just spotted this. I can confirm that I did replace Michael Palm Toft with Gary Irving in heat 12. In future just feel free to email me (richard@scunthorpespeedway.com). Richard
  22. 20th October now fully booked. Places on all the others prior to Christmas
  23. Scunthorpe Speedway's 72nd amateur meeting will take place on Saturday 8th September (1pm first race). There are classes for all standards from raw novice to Premier League reserve whilst there are four youth classes which run if there are entrants. The additional youth class allows riders to ride bikes upto 80cc and opens up the amateur meetings for the under-8s. Riders can book a place or ask further questions by e-mailing me (richard@scunthorpespeedway.com), contacting me on Facebook (facebook.com/rh1967), or texting/calling 07832-402167. 24. Great write up Mr C!! Just to clarify a couple of things We started with what I termed heat 0A not 4 lol. For the first time I had to completely rework all the heats for one class before we started (hence the delayed start). There were 3 additional heats which I added an 'A' to. The bumpy entrance to the stadium should have been less so because it has been tarmacced all the way down to the pits gate and the Youth 80s did only 3 laps (although there was confusion prior to the first race because we'd not thought that four laps might be too many). Thank you very much for your help and hope it isn't six months before you come see us again. you certainly aren't compelled to stand out there for the duration Take care, Richard
