  1. Anyway if it's coastal tourist areas they want, then what better than Stralsund(recommended by M.Ferjan). :P Lovely old town, with plenty of tourist attractions.Situated right by Germany's biggest island Rügen, summer playground of Erich Honneker.Part of Pommerania, it shares history with Poland and was also part of the Swedish empire at one time,so already has lots of interest for two of the main nations. Also for all their faults the communist government were very keen to promote FKK(Freikörperkultur or naturism),so not only are there plenty of babes on the beaches, a large proportion don't have any clothes on :o

    Oh,i forgot,there's also the Beer

  2. But would the Czechs want it?It's good as an idea, but if a country isn't strong would they risk holding an event they might not get into the final of?At the moment only Poland,Sweden and Denmark would be good bets to qualify.Britain should, but you wouldn't bet too much on it.As was said the attendances for a week in Denmark were not too good, which leaves Sweden and Poland with Britain. After a few years of that it will get pretty boring especially if one of them(Sweden or Britain, possibly)gets weaker. Can see it being held in more than one country

  3. Agree with you Bert.Trevor was part of the backbone of the Dons side for a number of years.Just for me as a youngster at the time there were riders i didn't take to i guess.Ronnie Moore was just superb no matter how old he was.Great rider and very friendly. While Tommy Jansson was the new kid on the block. When i look back now it seemed to me that some of the guys were ancient.McKinlay and Goody spring to mind and they were younger than i am now :( Guess i took to the younger riders more, even those that were not superstars in the making.Rob Jones for example was a favourite for a while

Thanks for that Linda. She was one of the characters at Plough Lane i always remember, even though i never knew who she was.

  4. Talked to a friend of mine who is in ZG promotion and he told me Kevin has Polish citizenship, which means he could compete for a junior spot on the team and ride in numerous junior meetings. :)

Must say i'm getting confused with all this.I thought it was enough just to take out a "local" licence, but not sure now.For instance,Marcin Sekula was riding in the 2.Bundesliga this year and i thought he maybe just took out a german licence but have seen that the rules were changed and riders must have citizenship. Now surely Marcin doesn't have german citizenship as he also rides in polish 2nd division and in polish junior champ, etc.

Last year Stralsund rode with up to 3 polish riders.Puszakowski,Frankow and Kowalski but i'm sure 2 had german licences.

Anyway whatever happens i hope Kevin gets a place,i'm sure he will do well.He is one of the few local riders i really enjoy watching :D

  5. Just been sent some Dons programmes and in one the the Mayor of Merton is reminiscing and saying Trevor was one of her favourite riders. We all have different favourites and i must confess Trevor wasn't one of mine.Always remember there was an old lady on the second bend who always waved and cheered for him.

Just wondering how he was viewed by others at the time. Was he at one stage seen as the new young star, the new white hope. After all he came along at a bit of a low point in terms of talent.Anyone with memories of him?

  6. Iris, if you want to see some decent speedway come to Zielona Gora, we should have a young and exciting team next season.

Thanks for the info tommy.Sounds serious. :( Can't say i really have a favourite Polish team, but because of Eddie Jancarz,Gorzow would be one that i look out for.Would hope to get there next season for the Jancarz meeting,if its on.

As for Zielona Gora, would like to plan things better next year so that i can get to a meeting.Would really like to see Kevin Wölbert ride in Poland. So once the fixtures are out i will try and plan things better.Have found a couple of bus companies that do Hamburg-Poland. :D

  7. Think the news is out now and you can add Christian Hefenbrock to the Luxo Stars team.Good luck for next year.Heard that Christian approached them for this season, but was far too late(o.k for the bundesliga, which gets sorted at the last moment),they were pleasantly surprised and said they would put him in the team in 2006 if all worked out.Seems it has :D

  8. On this I'm with a bunch of british speedway fans who think this whole Euro Champs is just a (thought I'd say another but I dont know if theres any?) political move by the EUM to gain power in the world of governing bodies. I went trough the qualis earlier and noticed that not one brit took part in this!

The wildcard scenario is something that I find a bit odd, because the GP is run by BSI with FIM, where as the UEM are trying to live under/compete with FIM in my opinion. Oh, and I dont think winning this comp has made JBJ one of the top15 in the world...

Well firstly we must consider the fact that just because there were no British entrants doesn't in any way discredit a competition. The British have a history of being a little slow in joining in.Just look at the football World Cup or early english entrants for the European Cup.

I also think, like Subedei said,Jesper might not be the sort of rider they are looking at.If Ales had won then maybe, but the 6th or 7th best Danish rider.... :unsure:The thing is though he has won an international competition which maybe gives him more credibility than some who will get in.That is speedway.Apart from the top 4 or 5,the next 20 or so are all capable on certain tracks on certain days of winning a meeting that might be a quali for the GP's.

  9. Just seen that Fredericia,Danish Superliga champs have decided not to run a team in the Superliga next year due to financial problems, lack of sponsorship, etc.Means Hans Andersen,Risager,Hougaard will have to find a new team. Will we see the league going back to a 4.t.t?Was well known that clubs had problems but is a bit dissapointing after the record crowd at the Holsted match :(

  10. I say fair play to them - and good luck! A strong American scene with plenty of young enthusiastic riders is what we need for the sport worldwide!

Please keep the info coming from Stateside. I'd hate for any of those taking part look in on this and think we all share Speedyguy's views.

Spooky, but i find myself agreeing with Rabbs again ;) I remember seeing Scott Autrey and Sumner McKnight ride in the second-half at Plough Lane, which if we ignore Keeter and Bast's little sojourn was the start of the second american invasion. The riders from the U.S have over the years brought to the sport something extra that probably no other nation could have.It looked to me tha all that was ending.I hope this new venture brings the youngsters through.Good job a lot of people don't take the attitude that because something failed in 19whatever its sure to fail again.Just have to look at the new venture in Spain and it's the same thing from speedyguy."blah,blah...1947 failed,..blah,i remember seeing San Miguel in 1953...."

I say,go for it.Hope to see positive results over the next year or so :D
