Planning on travelling up on Saturday and I'm reading a number of comments about the track being very dusty (we have the same problem on a hot and breezy day)!  Where's the best place to stand so that I'm not wearing half of your shale on my way home?

Usually the second bend but as others have said it can be changeable.

I hope Harry will rediscover his love for the sport.

The Sam Norris crash, a few years back, must have affected both brothers and others close to that age group, although fantastic to see how Sam recovers as time goes by.

The spell at Plymouth in CL is a perfect example of how the sport uses young lads not yet ready and then spits them out with shot confidence and dissilusion.

    Hopefully Harry can regroup stronger

Yes, it's sad to see such a great respect as Harry having such a bad time. He had a big off once in I think a Czech meeting a few years, and had to be nursed back from that. He had a mixed year last year with the Colts with some poor rides in a fairly decent year hence his start average this year. Last year it was Sam that had some 0 meetings and look how well he is flying now. Both seem to be prone to have the odd bad meetings but Harry this year is a different matter. Worky really need to replace him quickly while he takes time to get it back. Worky being such a great investment needs to be winning everything at home and performing well away. A second heat leader getting under 2 points per meeting is not good for their future.

See geoff Town were put in a position where they couldn't avoid getting rid of the 'old track'..............I'm, hopefully reliably, informed the Town RLFC were owed rental money.

But despite that financial situation Town were trying to assist in the proceedings of a planned new stadium, to be jointly shared by the Reds and Town.

The new stadium to be built on the current Reds area, with Reds moving to Derwent Park on a temp basis....therefore the football pitch requirements/size would of course mean no speedway track. Also when the new stadium was eventually built it was planned to dispose of Derwent Park completely......so don't blame Town for tearing up the speedway track they had no option but to do that.   Of course all these plans fell on stony ground via a prominent council officials input - which wasn't popular with rl and soccer devotees.

Anyway I think the Northside track shape is better than that of Derwent Park.......many a time I held my breath as someone went too wide on a very risky fourth bend.

Like Chris Mills(Newcastle Diamonds) who cleared the fence, hit the hut and was airlifted to hospital. Fortunately he survived it but did give speedway up shortly afterwards.

94 or 95 Richard Juul had a big big get off at Oxford, that's probably the one you're thinking of

His big off at Oxford was when he was riding for Wolverhampton. Massive injuries when the medics were going to do serious surgery to his leg and ankle which Dicki and his wife refused to let them do. He was ages on the crutches trying to get the leg to heal with a lot of skin damage. Diamond fans used to go to Cleveland Park then with Dicki who used to talk broken legs with my wife after she fell off her pedal bike around the same time. Dicki could well have lost his leg.

  5. In the mid 60's we travelled down from Newcastle to an International meeting at West Ham stadium on a Tuesday. Never thought it would be raining, but when we got there it had been called off late. Not a lot to do near West Ham, so we just turned around and drove home. Got home early next day after a wasted 500 mile drive. Still went to work of course on the Wednesday.

  6. Thoroughly enjoyed my trip down to Redcar last night against a good Diamonds team. If we had had something like that team in the last couple of years we would still be running, instead of being butchered.

Thanks go the Redcar promotion for the agreement to hold this meeting, which benefited both clubs supporters.

Thanks to all the ex Diamonds sponsors and the Diamond fans for sponsoring the meeting and making it possible. It was great to see the number of Diamond supporters in attendance and I hope that will be a sign for the future. We all need our fill of Speedway so why not support Redcar who has so many Newcastle connections.

Amazed at the condition of the track especially after its condition on Sunday. It held up well, obviously slick but it did mean that practically all races had 4 riders together instead of being strung out. It wasn't ripe for passing, but there was the usual burst around the boards coming out of the second bend still and a few tried it. Pity about Danny K's fall after taking it on but pleased he was OK.

On my way down I went through heavy rain the other side of Hartlepool, but that's where it stayed, except for a few drops later on in the meeting.

Nice to be involved with the Junior match again, with some decent performances in the Cubs 8 point win.

I think the Bears will do well this year, with 3 top heatleaders, and some gutsy second strings and reserves. Not a good night night for Jake M, as he couldn't get out of the gate, but when he does watch out for a fresh new talent to emerge. He is very fast, only 18, and I had the pleasure of watching in the Colts team all last year. He's going to be a great reserve, the same as you had last year with Jenkins.

So yes, I am now a Redcar supporter now. They have done wonders to get where they are and it will continue I am sure.

Meeting called off today with all the riders and quite a few fans in the stadium.

Hearing the riders refused to ride the track in some quarters and some where saying the ref had called it off....

Feel for Stuart Robson and all the riders and fans who had travelled over today.

Very late call off for most people !!

The riders were never going to ride it, and Stuart, referees and the trackstaff agreed they would not be able to make it fit to ride as it would have been unsafe.

Would agree.Unfortunately nothing is going to change .

Just like stupid fans making stupid statements without knowing what actually happened. The track was deemed on early Saturday to getting better and likely to go ahead on the Sunday. Unfortunately there was a sudden downpour in the afternoon and evening which went straight into the track. Work started early on Sunday to remedy the problem but with massive efforts from track staff and volunteers vans, they couldn't get the track to harden up and therefore safe to ride on. All agreed with that decision, riders, track staff, referees and the public.

It's not so much the weather on the day you've got to look at, it's how much water has the track soaked in over the past few weeks that's got to be worrying... This isn't something that happens overnight so it amazes me that the trackstaff at Redcar didn't foresee this on Sunday... Or did they? It is frustrating as a fan in situations like this, it's almost like our time and money is an afterthought but oh well...

Totally wrong assumption. Redcar track staff, including 'our' Johnny Swales, worked  extremely hard Friday, Saturday and Sunday to try and get the meeting on for both Stuart and the many fans from here and elsewhere, to try and get this meeting on. All very well criticising from 40 of miles away, but if you had been there and therefore fit to comment you would have seen the multitude of track equipment plus volunteer vans being used to try and squeeze the water out of the track, which had got into the track following the downpour on the Saturday. Whilst it looked goodish to average on the top, apparently anybody that walked on the track said it was soft underneath and definitely unfit to ride on.

Anybody from afar can make stupid and harmful assumptions, but it doesn't give credit for the effort that was put in to try and help Stuart and the fans.

I thought Hodder was already signed up? I was kinda hoping to see James Pearson, Jack Kingston and Jack Shimelt as the final 3... Leaving the team as:

    1. Jack Smith

    2. Matt Marson

    3. Jack Kingston

    4. Sam Hagon

    5. James Pearson

    6. Freddie Hodder

    7. Jack Shimelt

    41.99

A mixed bag and it will be close and safe at BV, but not many points away.

Smith will get good points most places.

Matt Marson a steady no 2

Jack Kingston I never saw him get many points, but he did in other meetings and was better late season.

Sam Hagon has the capabilities and the equipment to be a decent and dogged rider, Worth watching.

James Pearson never seen him race but great expectations from him.

Freddie Hodder a great up and coming rider who will get points both home and away, Great to watch.

Jack Smimelt been around awhile and | nearly signed him for the Gems awhile ago, might struggle.

The track is looking fabulous and I'll bet nobody thought it was going to be this good(but it is). Probably going to be one of the best tracks for racing in any league. I hope that everyone has a visit planned in their diaries to see the massive change that it is from the small, bumpy and lumpy surface it was. I certainly will and even on the training days.

No. Only really started going again in 2004 and, to be honest, I have always avoided speedway food because it has always been - in my limited experience - overpriced rubbish (my most recent experience has been watching my old pal Youngy desperately chewing a sausage in a roll at Belle Vue - it looked like he was eating firewood), occasionally bordering on not fit for human consumption. It doesn't surprise me that one or two have been ill after eating it.

Then again, its not much better at any sports ground. Football is probably worse, and the stuff they serve at rugby league across the north occasionally has to be seen to be believed (I once got into trouble at Halifax RLFC when a mate and I smuggled fish and chips into a reserve game).

The exceptions for me were pies at Wigan RLFC (the country's pie capital, if they aren't good there abandon hope), John Anderson's burgers at Berwick (you could tell he was a high quality butcher) and Isle of Wight's food, particularly the sausage casserole and the chicken curry. Home made, absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced too (Barry Bishop once told me that on every occasion they were on the menu both sold out).

Thanks for that. Yes the real meat burgers were on before 2004, probably 02/03, and the caravan disappeared then as well. I wonder if the stadium owners objected to it for the later seasons. I've always thought Scunny were all right for food, although it would probably something with chips as i am not a connoisseur like you. Jen's cooking stops that.

There is plenty of space for a carpark am sure i read once it was going to be fenced off and was going to be free?

Yes I was thinking that the land to the left with the circular path was probably going to be used. Not much space anywhere else's parking on the road would be taboo.
