  1. I'd say there is going to be a rule change at the AGM as Rambo has been announced in PL and EL and he has posted he is awaiting 'conformation' on a NL place.

I think there will be a rule change also, but there doesn't need to be for Lambert to ride NL as his PL average is 3.00.

  2. Garrity may not be a product of Coventry but he's not a product of any EL teams NL team is he? Hence he was not linked to any team in the draft so a poor example there.

Garrity doesnt have an EL average. His Pl average is about 5.5 which converts to about 3.3 EL if we were using averages.

He rode for Belle Vue Colts.

Yea two riders who as PL reserves got Sacked for last year for not being good enough ...yea outstanding .

Worrall at the end of the season was a different rider than the one that started! 17 points from 6 rides at Dudley. Likewise last year was only Bates' second in the sport so it wasn't surprising that he struggled to start with but was beating the best in the league for Mildenhall by the end of it.

I did. Because Coventry having a NL team means that if James Shanes or Luke Crang become any good they should be Coventrys choice for 2015. But if anyone can sign them, whats the point of Coventry bothering to run NL racing? They may as well let someone else get them and pick them in the same draft as everyone else. At least if them riders come good now Coventry get them.

Considering Rose became a protected pick and was in the second round presumably they could protect Crang etc next year.

  3. One rider each team was protected? What happened to that rule! Clegg getting picked 13th is astonishing from Lecister!

I just dont understand the order it went in?

No just Kerr, Rose, Ellis, Newman & Morris were protected. The order that the riders were picked in was what I posted. Round 2 was in reverse order of ranking dependent on who the round 1 rider was ie Swindon went first in round 2 because they picked the lowest ranked round 1 rider (Worrall).

  4. Anyone got the full order in which the way the riders were picked! Everyone looks pretty good to be honest, Leicster look a little weak but thats due to Max Clegg being very inexperianced, so hope he can prove me wrong. Im a massive fan of Cleggy so but i was suprised he got a pick and so early on.

  6. Good move recruiting Barker again Davies and Newman good middle riders

not sure hy benko has been signed

Id imagine Gathercole and jensen will be there too

15.33 left for 3 riders so not both of those!

About the best trio imo are Jensen, Anderson & Starke but I think Benko will struggle even if he is at reserve!

  7. Christopher, he was beaten by Luke Chessell in the Top Gun at Sheffield and scored one in the pride of the midlands at Leicester after Klindt packed up. His form on the continent is similar to Stichauer from what I can see. Hence my lack of enthusiasm!

If he is a 7 god help us! If he is a 5 I could just about put up with it!

Reignites the debate of why isn't a 3.00 Brit in (which Chessell himself is and tbh Chessell isn't up to PL standard)?

  8. Lewis Rose is an interesting signing. Didn't pull up any major trees in the NL last year but has done well in guest appearances in the PL (noticeably against us) and I'm certainly prepared to back the promotion on this one given the success we've had with Dakota North, Kyle Newman, Richie Worrall and of course Lewis Kerr in recent seasons. Important we don't compare him too much to Lewis Kerr and give him time to adapt to Brough. Schrammy will be fine in the number 6 role as long as the new Lewis scores well.

You didn't follow the NL very closely then. He started at reserve & I'm sure if scored about 19 from 7 and I think he hit a maximum when he was alongside Lambert and he got about 15 from 7 to win the meeting at Kent. He carried on that form into the main body before he got injured (I think it was a dislocated shoulder). He's a talent and might not do a Kerr but I expect to see him push the 5.00 figure, maybe 4.50. He's definitely one of the best 3.00 riders & if EL sides have any chance he'll be one of the best B grade reserves and should get picked soon!

  9. I do have to say Smart's name was the one which leapt off the page when I read the list too - as a nailed-on 'last pick'... Would that make him Brummie bound..?!

That was the one that screamed at me too! But a few EL snobs seem to think he's the same rider he was a few years ago so maybe the promoters do too...

  10. I think you'll find it is about what number the rider sits in the draft rankings, so protected asset Newman is likely to be 2nd or 3rd in draft rankings which means, Poole would get 8th or 9th pick second time round! so the lower the pick in round one the higher the pick in round two!

That's also how I interpret it.

    I assume you mean Newman H !!!

It shouldn't be done like that though. If you choose to take a protected rider, something not on offer to most teams, there has to be some counter balancing. If Poole pick Newman 10th they get the 18th/19th pick. If Poole effectively pick him first they get the same 18th/19th pick.

Ranking the riders is very subjective, based on last season there is a big difference between Kings Lynn or Wolves selecting Robert Lambert (he won't be in round 1 of course), yet round 2 is based on a single ranking of a rider.

Surely its not beyond the promoters to select the best available rider (for them) ... well maybe not.

Assuming Robert Lambert is allowed to be picked in Round 2, then Coventry could pull a stroke. Select the lowest ranked Round 1 rider, maybe Starke, Rose or Wright and have first pick in Round 2 for Lambert !!!

Ranking these riders within their gratings might become a problem because we all know R. Lambert should be an A rider but he doesn't have a PL average, whereas Smart has a PL average around 4.5 (without checking) but in reality he's a C grade!

  11. interesting list... i suppose ronyon isn't included because he is too good to be in this class? might very well be true, but where does that leave him with his 1.85 elite league average?

just shows the reality im afraid, anyone expecting these guys to "mix it" are living on another planet.

3030, is the best anyone can hope for.

Ben Reade, who I doubt will even be an A grade rider, beat Gustafsson at Eastbourne in Reade's first meeting back after being injured most of the season last year.

  12. Riders with a PL average above 4.00 cannot double-up. However if a rider is in an NL declaration, and not PL at the start of the season but signs for a PL team mid season he can double-up if his average is below 5.00 (eg Wright this year). Therefore the following riders are ineligibke for NL next year if they sign for a PL team: Blackbird, Morris, Wright, Ellis, Nielsen, Kerr & Boxall.

  13.

The NLSpeedway Twitter account asked this very question.

"Any chance we'll see the Saints return next year @SpeedwayScunny?" "@SpeedwayScunny: never say never;-) ;-)"

Hopefully that's a positive indication that they may be back in 2014.

That's because I run the account  Look at my signature ;) But seriously, I hope they do return! In terms of youth development I truly believe that Scunthorpe are one of the best this century.

  14. Worrall 8.64

    Tungate 7.05

    Risager 6.90

    Heeps 6.74

    Ellis 4.25

    Hawkins 3.96

That would be my guess leaving up to 4.96 for the last rider. Palm Toft looks the only candidate on that average.

Personally I'd take out Risager and replace with Dak North on 6.55 leaving the 5+ needed for Manzares.

    Blackbird has far more potential.

  15. What is the chance of extra teams in the NL.We know there will be Kent,Dudley,Mildehall,Buxton,Stoke,Are we too see Coventry and Kings Lynn again?I hope IOW situation is sorted. So is there a chance of anyone else?Norwich - Bristol ?????We could do with more teams, the more the merrier.I have read in this weeks SS that there is encouragement of Elite Teams also having a NL team like Coventry/KL.

Coventry confirmed last month that they will definitely be running NL in 2014. I'm just hoping the Islanders state likewise!

I don't think it's clear cut that Dudley will be back either as they could go PL with the 14H/14A league fixtures allowing themselves, Peterborough and one other to join.

I'm sure it would be beneficial for EL teams to run a NL team to give their reserves home track time, and for the likes of KL who have done this for several years already that's why I think they deserve to have Lambert & Kerr at reserve despite it being easily the strongest pair in the league... Sticking with NL, BV ran the Colts a couple of years ago, Poole ran Bournemouth, Birmingham ran the Bulls in challenge meetings and I'm sure Leicester could sustain NL racing, so even though I don't think we'll see mre than 8 teams at the tapes I think it would be worthwhile for some EL teams (other than Coventry & KL) to invest!

Anyone heard anything about a return for Scunthorpe Saints?

Several other options at #1: Worrall, Grajczonek, Lawson...

    Thoughts?

  17. A few words from the promotion since they failed to complete their home fixtures - maybe an apology to the other sides they let down.. - would be a start perhaps..?!

And what will happen with regards to averages as Stoke's are obscured by having ridden 2 less home meetings therefore making their riders more attractive propositions. The same can be said to KL to a lesser extent and Dudley, Kent & Mildenhall all have slightly higher figures.

  18. Rob Godfrey interviewed in the local rag is hoping to have the team finalised next week, all going well. Some clues given - Josh Auty to be #3 in the averages & Douglas at reserve mmmmm A bit like Soduko this LOL

    1. ?

    2. ?

    3. Josh Auty 7.24

    4. ?

    5. ?

    6. Ryan Douglas 5.03

    7. ?

So I think #4 & #5 will around the 5-6 pt mark, with #7 being a possible 3 pointer..... Really haven't got the foggiest , wonder if Rob is on the wind up?

    Maybe

    1. Richie Worrall 8.64

    2. Jan Graversen 5.25

    3. Josh Auty 7.24

    4. Tero Aarnio 6.86

    5. Sam Masters 7.43

    6. 3.00

    7. Ryan Douglas 5.03

It does seem harsh on Jorgy, Howe & Blackbird though! I hope I'm wrong because that doesn't look league winning, but I noticed Richie tweeted that he's sorted a British team for 2014.
