  1. Surely this move actually makes sense? It’s only short term for the end (I can’t believe I’m saying end at the beginning of July) of the season. Berwick have 4 meetings then and by replacing an injured rider with R/R taken by 3 riders with a proven heat leader it gives them the bottom team in the league a bit more respectability and a chance to win in their final 2 home meetings. However if Boxall does hit the ground running, what’s the odds that he sneakily misses the final away meeting to not get a new average

According to this week's Speedway Star Leicester have been fined for tracking an under strength team.

Interesting because a lower points limit was put in following that infamous Scunthorpe side. Admittedly I haven’t checked this year’s regulations but the limit was about 32.00 whereas even taking out Boughen’s average, Leicester’s side was still over 39 on effective averages and over 36 on starting averages. Not exactly embarrassingly under strength especially when they only lost by 11 away to some people’s title favourites!

Edinburgh website now got Kieron Douglas at #6 for Leicester and not Owen Booth.

    https://www.edinburghmonarchs.co.uk/news-centre/article/2023-06-15/champs-here-on-saturday-evening

It’s now showing as Booth. Unless Leicester’s intention is/was to sign Douglas as an injury replacement for Foord.

This should be a comfortable away win. Clegg & Roynon will do very well but the Thompson twins are an admirable match. However James and Cubs’ second strings should have a field day against the Academy’s bottom end.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they kept Woods when Killeen is back, and ditch Fellows. Somebody also mentioned the prospect of Ashton Vale as well. Killeen and Vale would be a cracking reserve pairing.

But with only 2 teams making the play-offs, they could be adrift by then.

  5. It’s back! I with the first meeting today there is no better time to open this. So build a team upto 42.00 points and the highest end of the season average wins!

Only 2 riders from each club are allowed in your team. Averages can be found on the 2023 teams thread or BSPL site.

    Previous results were:

    2022: 1st Diamonds85, 2nd Sings4Speedway & 3rd PotteringAround

    2021: 1st Hawks1975, 2nd Islander15 & 3rd Iron Scorpion

    2019: 1st Iand, 2nd Flipper11 & 3rd DJC.

     2018: 1st Hunters, 2nd SKJ & 3rd CUFC_Brummie.

      2017: 1st Eagles69, 2nd Islander15 & 3rd SKJ.

2016: 1st Halifax Tiger, 2nd John Leslie, 3rd Turn Two.

    Good luck :t:

Roynon shouldn't really be in this league should he, but he'll earn a stack of cash, double his average and lap most of the riders....

He’s eligible for this league so it’s fine him being in it. He’s a high quality rider and he has a high average that reflects that, but that must be used. Not a middle order average.
The issue is he should’ve been competing for a team place against the likes of Jenkins, Edwards, Bickley, the Thompsons, Stoneman, Shanes etc and not against Spooner, Perry, Hagon, Scott, Trigger, Kingston, Warren etc.

The big joke is the ignoring of the forth meeting,  boughan didnt get that luxury and saw his average nearly double which must have had an impact on his bargaining power and hurts Leicesters team building capabilities

Exactly and there must be consistency within the application of the rules, to uphold the integrity of the sport.

From what I believe when enquired about Roynon they were told he’d be on his 6.00 assessed as was given for Plymouth. As he hadn’t done enough to get a proper average he stays on his assessed one given. Academy just following what the BSPA have decided.

    1. The 6.00 wasn’t assessed, it was his Championship average doubled which is how you equate an average when a rider is dropping down.
    2. He did do enough meetings last season! He did 4 meetings which is all that is needed to get a new average.
    3. Like I said previously, if for some reason they’re ignoring last season, then he should drop down on his current Championship average doubled.

Roynon and Aussie brit Doyle Wood to finish

I will bring this up again but how can Roynon join on a 6.00 average? He rode in 4 official meetings for Plymouth last season and gained an average of 8.67! https://britishspeedway.co.uk/2022-rider-statistics/ Or by some absurdity if they are ignoring that, then he didn’t officially ride NL last season so his average should be his Championship average doubled. That is now 3.56 * 2 = 7.12. Not 6.00 which he joined the NL on midway through last season.

  10. There is more strength in depth this year by tracking 3 heat leaders, rather than a very strong top 2, but in a stronger league Kent’s top 3 don’t match Oxford’s for example. The bottom 3 look a bit stronger for Kent too with a useful rider always at number 7, but then they’ve not picked up a rider who could double their average like Oxford, Leicester and Workington all have. The league looks slightly stronger next season with a higher points limit and less teams and in my opinion this Kent side is in for a struggle. But as long as they win at home to keep the fans happy.

Jenkins, Stoneman, Atkins, Killeen, Scott and Clouting return. Last rider to be announced in the new year

Killeen will definitely add the most points on his average in the league. 3 class heat leaders too (and probably the best 3 in the league). Those 4 alone will give them a PO spot! I hope Scott can maintain his form after an impressive start to his league career. Then no pressure on Clouting and the other new reserve.

Have to admit im underwhelmed by McGurks. Belle Vue let them slip away for a reason. Probably the worst away riders id seen all year but equally got averages for a reason and if looked after could be useful additions but can't help feeling they could be the undoing of a good side.

There was surprisingly very little progression from them this season but they’re still very young tbf. Even if they can’t find a bit of away form, the team should still be good enough to make the POs.

Hopefully for dan t he can get a cl spot soon because nl of no benefit to him now, he was nearly unbeatable at most places season gone

That’s problem the biggest stumbling block to this team being successful. If Dan rightfully gets a Championship place and has to step back from the NL then his replacement is unlikely to be as strong as him.

  14. It’s not to rebuild a team after winning the league and having such a dominant season. But this Cubs side looks to have done it to a tea. Somehow they’ve kept the Thompson twins and they aren’t even in huge averages! Both will be near unbeatable at home and could top the 10 point average mark. Then in Perry, Boughen and James they have a trio who are definitely on a fast upwards trend. That’s not forgetting Foord & Spencer who have their moments, especially at home. It looks another strong team and potentially another league title.

Dan’s average in the Championship is so over inflated by his form at Leicester that he is a huge risk for any Championship team to take on .
Let’s be honest would any other club other then Leicester have taken Dan as a rising star in the Premiership ?

Yeah I understand that and each individual club have to look after their own business first. Therefore should Brits under 21 get a bigger reduction in average than Brits over 21? For example, 20%, and that might have made Dan a better proposition to promoters. But not just Dan, all young Brits.

I am told Dan is in the team because he has not got a championship side .

So he can get a Premiership place but not a Championship place?! He clearly needs a middle tier spot, rather than NL, for his overall development but that’s British Speedway all over!
