British speedways solution to everything, use a sticky plaster without addressing the underlying cause.

It was a different time I know but after the war there was a shortage of riders, did they just make everyone double up? No, they ran programs to encourage new riders to take up the sport.

    I'll repost this:

The current rider shortage of UK riders is down to one thing Grasstrack both adult & schoolboy it has become almost none exististent in the UK & that is where 80% of all British riders came from. The BSPL should work with the ACU to encourage a revival of ACU clubs to run Grasstrack meetings.

I really hope that is an attempt at satire.

In the UK we nowadays we have to blame somebody for every scenario. In this case it's the lack of a quality rider to complete Plymouth's team, the blame must surely lie with the person or persons that have set the 2024 points limit.  Have we still got any pay-caps in place as that's also something people/teams seem to ignore!

i dont share your view and from what im told cook has not been approached

I'm sure the way the Bonaza works is that the riders volenteer their services for free or expenses only. The sole aim of the BEN fund is to support injured riders both short & long term however  best they can. The main fund raiser is the now anual Bonaza.

Good luck to the riders, Paul Ackroyd & his team for a successful 2024 event.

Hope the evening plans are moving along ok and the interest is still there for the Eagles. Distance and grandchildren babysitting unfortunately curtails me coming, but hope all the effort MD and others put in keeps the club in the public eye.

Assume the Arlington situation is still the same with no chance of a return in the future?

The planning authorities must support sustainable development. For this reason, when a proposed development poses a risk of loss of amenity of any type, the application is likely to be rejected.

23/00412/OUT Representation from Consultee (Web) Sport England 08/01/2024

    Speedway

As set out previously, Sport England does not wish to make detailed comments on this point, and have referred the Council to the governing body, the Speedway Control Bureau, who we understand have raised objection to the application.

Whilst we note the content of the supporting statement in relation to the loss of speedway venue, this does not seem to appropriately address the relevant planning policies in the Local Plan, particularly LP36 and the guidance in the NPPF in respect of the loss of the facility.

This is because no information is provided in respect of replacement facilities in line with policy LP36 of the Local Plan. For information, the previous reference to para 99 of the NPPF should now read Para 103 following the updated publication in December 2023.

As such, our previous comments remain valid in respect of the loss of the facility for speedway.

Many thanks, Stuart Morgans Principal Planning Manager

Apparently more than 1 club was after signing the young German,  regardless of the gender, imo what I saw last year she would get a 6-8 point average in the NDL,  which is similar to bother reserves in the championship,  and your 2 reserves :D  if it does not work out for said team and rider, look at the publicity so far, and shudder to think how much publicity for speedway (and the comets) can be gained in the build up to the 1st meeting

This is the biggest media oppertunity GB speedway has had for decades, are the current BSP wised up enough to see it?

Osbourne is a business man nothing more nothing less and his decisions/opinions are based on money, when you get the higher up the money chain you find morals and scruples get less and less, people like him would stamp on their own Nan to get the money, if speedway was in a better financial state he would change his stance, he doesn’t break any laws he just doesn’t do or say anything in favour of speedway cause it’s not making him money

Well said Dean as always, but one move Osbourne did make that was not so smart was when registering his latest limited company he give anyone access to his home address, not the cleaverest thing to do when you have walked all over people!

I think your right about Poole being a speedway Town and has always had good support. They have not rested on their Laurels though and have always gave the fans a decent Team to support and manage their finances well, even to the extent of dropping a division, when things weren’t going to plan. That is good financial management IMO,it also enable them to finance a decent Team in lower division which in turn kept good crowd levels.

What Poole do is great for Poole, one real advantage is they are in a "well to do" part of the U.K.

Poole's success on track is not great for all the other teams.

The trouble with that is you would then have riders that it benefitted to be a ‘gun for hire’

Purposefully have a poor spell when in a team so you get a deflated average then the next season tour round the country guesting for everyone that needs one riding 3 or 4 times a week naming your price.

Or an "average" that doesn't reflect your on track ability like Richard Lawson. How many guest bookings has he had in the last 3 seasons? Nice little earner Rodney.
