  1. That's the first Speedway I've watched in a long long time, very entertaining, and liked the format, and how it promotes team riding. I must admit, I was surprised that Tai went after the win, as after all, we quite rightly lauded the previous rides where he team rode in an absolutely superb fashion. Having said that, I'm also surprised that Lambert tried the inside pass. However, it's only opinion, and not really a criticism of either rider, had we got the 2nd and 3rd none of this would have been discussed. Of course it's disappointing we didn't win Gold, and nobody looked more distraught than Lambert, but we've gone to Poland, not looked like novices, and on the whole put up a very good showing.

They give free tickets to the rugby clubs participating in the pre match stuff and occasionally for other things but the simple fact is they don't need to entice lots of people with freebies anymore. £230 for a season ticket again next season is super value.

JLR workers, clients of ACL or whatever its called now are groups who regularly receive free tickets or vastly discounted tickets, dont be naive.

It has been said before, but it is well worth repeating....the cost of admission is only part of the reason why people choose (or choose not to) attend an event. Wasps Rugby use the Ricoh, and average 18,000...with their highest attendance this season just short of 27,000. They charge up to £56 a seat, and don't have to give tickets away to get a decent crowd.

The lesson to learn is to produce a package of entertainment that fires the public's imagination and makes it a "must see event" each and every time. Then the price of admission is not so important!!

Bad example to use, Wasps do still give away a lot of tickets.

  4. Our application will go before the NDL AGM, which is likely to be in the next couple of weeks.

What are your thoughts on comments made by long standing bees fans who have advised they will not support this venture? Why does Mick Horton believe that a standalone stadium for speedway is not viable, knowing full well there would be the opportunity for Stox to join the venture?

  5. This is the problem that speedway has, it constantly refers to the lowest common denominator which does not allow teams to grow and prosper, which then leads to crowds dropping etc... Crowds would improve all around if teams were able to track riders for more than one season, kids then become attached to said riders, have a favourite rider, want to attend to see said fave rider... As it is now, kids see a rider for a year, then they have to go elsewhere...

  6.

Why on earth do Speedway fans get so uppity when talking about Speedway Riders pay? It's a valid talking point, just like everyone discusses a footballers wage, or other Sports stars winnings...

    [

I dont think people are getting uppity, its just some of us are pointing out that

the figures quoted about riders earnings are so far removed from what they actually

    earn.

While everybody is so secretive about it that will always be the case.

  7. Ref gardening, dead easy to limit it, all they need to do is whack the 2 minutes on and then the riders have 2 minutes to get around get prepared, once the 2 minutes is complete the green light comes on, if they are still fiddling around they will miss the start, so effectively they will be enforcing the 2 minute rule.

I think peoples frustrations are that it takes a while for the 2 minute warning to come on, then the riders pootle around to the gate and think they are then ok to dig up etc meaning the fans are hanging around for up to 10 minutes between a race.

  8. Swindon were effectively giving away 3 points to the other teams when they signed Doyle on 13.41 but now they sit top of the table with 10 straight wins? Which team comes close in recent years?

For me, not Coventry 2007 because they relied heavily on Olly Allen's R/R and Poole 2008 and Wolves 2009 benefitted from Holder and Woffinden stepping up on false averages, the exact opposite of Doyle's. Then there's the great Poole 2010 side, run away table toppers, but thrashed by Coventry in the final. Since then, much of a muchness.

So step forward Swindon 2017, the best of all!

Relied on Olly Allen RR, no the make up of the team is what led us to success, 2 strong reserves at all times. Allen, Smolinski, Janniro and Risager all had spells at reserve, and then Johnno came in and had a spell at reserve at the end of the season. We must have been strong as Swindon bought in Damian Balinski at reserve...

  9. Mick hasn't got any money that's why he is trying to gate crash the save Cov group we don't want Horton anywhere near Cov

Are you part of the group?

I'm obviously aware of the anti Horton sentiment held in some quarters, hence my original comment of them perhaps having the wind taken from the sails.

  10. What makes you say that?

The silence from the group since his announcement perhaps, has contact been made with Mick, as surely he would be a key addition to the group?

If Mick is on board, can funding be raised to purchase new seats, lighting etc as the groups aims now need to be amended slightly, there is a promoter / owner on board to run the club, there's a stadium sitting empty, it requires some TLC, but its there, so whats required now to bring it all together?

Does Mick have plans to raise funding, what are Micks plans for the future... Before Micks announcement the group was visible and had done some great work, since then not so much.

Its not a criticism, just an opinion from an outsider.

  11. Well done to Matt Ford, cant believe other teams have signed up to it, this in no way should be covered with a facility of a guest or rr, it needs to be a NL rider. On a set guaranteed pay rate equivalent to the rider being replaced.

One thing to consider perhaps the top riders have stated if the clubs dont sign it they are not riding over here etc so I can sort of understand given the fact the season is nearly upon us, next season is a different matter though.

  12. Ref the cost of BT channels on V media, yes you get them included in the full house package, however there was a price rise of around £3.50 per month announced after BT had won the rights to the Champions League, it was stated that this price rise was to cover the cost of BT Sport and the Ultra HD channel or whatever it is.

  13.

Challenge meetings are done often but at the top 2 levels it's usually the opening meeting of a season thus bringing in decent crowds due to the winter break.

Most challenge matches that take place throughout the season tend to be of NL standard.

Fact, when the real stuff starts Premiership / Championship fans of the host club will not be interested.

That may come across as harsh with the position Coventry are in but that's how it is.

Totally true, and in actual fact the riders are the same, the racing goes up a notch when a league or cup is on the line...

  14. Unfortunately the only bit I am in the know about is the bit about the site being offered as a car storage facility. It's being offered by JRB consultants in Solihull on behalf of the owners. I've seen the particulars of the offer complete with pictures of Brandon in all its glory.

As to what is happening to the team, I haven't got a clue. Same as everyone else.

Interesting, a company that was set up 3 months ago...

  15. My view is that Simon Gilbert has not helped with his recent articles in the Coventry Telegraph, compulsory purchase by Rugby Council on 10th January, most likely to have angered Brandon Estates whoever they are, and today he reports Coventry Speedway unlikely to agree a track deal, quoting a Lawyer for Brandon Estates. He uses the words unlikely in his headline and quotes the lease deal is now dead in the body of the article. Both articles are totally unhelpful as long as talks are continuing.

From my perspective the original agreement for the lease would no longer apply when the fixtures and fittings had been removed / damaged. Who can blame Mick Horton for not trying to renegotiate, or come to some agreement with Sandhu and Brandon Estates. I remain hopeful of a positive outcome until I hear otherwise from those directly involved.

From dealing with Simon Gilbert, plus reading some of his pieces on the plight of the Football club, Im not surprised, they are not proper journalists now, its effectively click bait. No doubt there will soon be 5 things to do on a friday night, type article soon enough.
