  1. Going on from this thread and blending in from multiple threads on this forum... Everyone wants to know why crowds are so poor these days? This postponement about sums it up, its no longer a proper professional sport, so low down on priorities for stadium owners, meetings called off far to easy, far to quickly.... I am not having a go at the organisers, just saying what in my opinion alot of people wont say for fear of being chastised on the forum... Other pro sports would HAVE got there equivalent on...

You know, despite what we say about the sport itself, do you think that the stadia that alot of clubs are based at has a detrimental effect on gaining new support? Football at the professional end, say leagues 2, 1 & the championship and premier league have had to bring there stadiums/playing arenas into the 21st century.... And alot of speedway arenas are pretty rough and ready (I know alot of speedway clubs are in hired arenas) and have little or no control over the condition of them, but it has to put some new punters off after a first visit... If rhis is the case, are there any solutions available to the promotors in these circumstances. ..... I don't know the answer to this one, the lifetime supporters will and do put up with this because its mostly all they know, as this aspect hasn't really changed in the last 20 years....

    Save Isle Of Wight

Garry Middleton once turned up at Leicester in his Rolls Royce!!!!!!!!! Citroen Safari was the car Les Collins used at Leicester, he could squeeze 2 bikes in and associated kit, and I am sure I once helped him manhandle 3 out his Citroen (TARDIS) Safari!!!!!!!

Funny how all threads nearly always end up with an argument, that is usually nothing to do with the original post! I personally like and admire all the COLLINS boys, must have been an interesting breakfast table in the early days!!!

    Early Predictions

I personally think its too early to call, injuries will play a major part in the quest for the play-offs, as will rain offs, and matches ridden in poor conditions as that can be a great leveller.... I would like to see some consistency in the way meetings are approached when poor weather is around, some tracks try and pull all the stops out to get racing on and some cancel at the slightest signs of rain in the weather forecast, so as not to have to compete in less than perfect conditions.. If we have a poor season weather wise, then the teams that perform better at the end of the season will have a double sided sword, as they may well have to race in a higher proportion of meetings at the business end due to fixture backlogs due to the aforementioned weather related rain offs... I hope Leicester can make a decent fist of it and finish around the play offs, and not become the leagues whipping boys. Poole, Belle Vue, Coventry could well be the early pace setters, other than that, it could be the closest play-off chase for years...!! Heres hoping. NTO

    Coventry's Charity Partner

Yes, its a good idea, puts speedway in another media stream, and its a good cause to boot...
  12. So, Tai won the minority sports person of the year, so is speedway better off as a big fish in a little pond (best minority sport) or little fish in a big pond (competing against Football/Rugby/Golf/Cricket)? What do you al think? NTO
  13. What's the problem with the "Midland Defense League" Final, now not going ahead? Who's taken the bat and ball away??
