  2. A third Glasgow Tiger - Robert Ksiezak is the replacement for the unfortunate Matej Kus, who is left nursing a broken wrist following a crash on Thursday evening in Redcar's opener against Newcastle Diamonds. This will be Robert's first competitive ride in the UK since he crashed out at Berwick in 2010.He's determined to conquer the demons, and 'hopefully', not test our new safety fence. Matej is disappoionted to miss out on a return to the big Shielfield raceway, as he was unbeaten around the pacy circuit last year.
  3. The 1st meeting staged at Berwick with their new Tracksafe Polyfoam Barrier System (Foam Fence) is this coming Saturday with a 7pm tapes up. It is a full 20 heat, 16 rider individual championship contested by riders donating their time and effort to raise funds towards the Fence Fund. Elite Leaguers Davey Watt, Adam Shields and Olly Allen will be joined on track be the seven Bandits who all looked sharp and ready in their practice session last Saturday. In addition Glasgow's Australian duo Josh Grajczonek and a rider making his UK competetive debut Mason Campton are doing their bit to help turn Berwick into the Premier venue for speedway in the North of England. Matej Kus was unbeaten at Berwick in 2011 and will want to carry on that form on Saturday. Bandit asset and track specialist Pepe Franc makes a sharp return to the Borders track after his winter switch to Sheffield. Two late changes to the line-up are popular Australian Christian Henry who in 2012 returns to Newcastle Diamonds and flying Finn Tero Aarnio who was sold by Berwick to Scunthorpe during the winter but was only to happy to aid his good friends on Tweedside when he realised there was an opportunity for him to ride at Shielfield Park again. The meeting is quite possibly THE MOST IMPORTANT ever in Berwick's speedway history. With an FIM Grand Prix Qualifier being allocated to Berwick on June 16th, the hard work put in by the management and staff at Berwick over the past three years has been recognised. However the club is reliant on it's followers to show their support and to swell the attendance on Saturday night. This will boost the fund towards it's target and ensure the club keeps momentum and looks to the future with renewed optimism. So tell all your friends and family, to come along and enjoy a great nights entertainment. Admission is by minimum donation of our regular admission prices (unchanged from 2011) More details at www.berwickbandits.co
  4. FENCE FITTED - AND READY MARCH 17th SPONSORS WANTED! To maximise revenue from the Fence-Fund event the club are seeking sponsors to aid in underwriting necessary paid-out costs. “We still have heat sponsorships available at £70, which entitles two people to watch the action from the warmth of our hospitality suite while enjoying complimentary refreshments and a sumptuous buffet!” explained commercial manager Phil Newton. “If a heat sponsor wanted to bring an extra person along, that would be an extra £35. If they want to bring two guests, that’s easy – they sponsor two heats!” “On the subject of the polyfoam fence, can I clarify that it will carry giant advertising panels, and the club is anxious to offer this space to local, as well as national organizations. “They’ll get their names and motifs emblazoned on it, of course” confirmed Newton. “Just get in touch with me while there are still spaces to sell! Advertising and sponsorship enquiries to Phil Newton on 07955-211618 or phil@berwickbandits.co We have to remind everyone that although the Polyfoam Fence is now in place and ready to use, the fund-raising cannot stop. The Bandits still have a huge final installment on their state of the art equipment, and are looking at every avenue to generate funds to pay for the fine panels that now adorn the bends at Shielfield Park. Admission to our special Individual 20 heat Foam Fence Challenge on Saturday March 17th is by minimum donation of our regular prices (held at 2011 prices).
  5. Berwick’s speedway Bandits – sponsored by A & J Scott of Wooperton – have confirmed their much-awaited polyfoam safety fence will be delivered this week – and that installation will begin at first light on Friday morning! “We’ve been waiting for this moment for so long,” admitted club director George Hepburn. “This will be the very first polyfoam fence at any Premier League circuit and will hopefully lead to more and more big race meetings – such as the FIM GP Challenge on June 16 -- being staged at Shielfield Park.” The first event will be the Fence-Fund Challenge on March 17th – proceeds from which will hopefully fund the final payment for the £45,000 barrier. “It is costing an awful lot of money,” acknowledged Hepburn. “But hopefully we’ll get a big attendance on the 17th to help meet the bill – and anyway, what price a life being saved, or a serious injury lessened?” SPONSOR NAMED Promoter Ryan Anderson yesterday confirmed the March 17th opening meeting will be named “The Fence Fund Challenge, sponsored by The Railway Hotel, Haddington.” “Our friend Hamish Colgan has become an avid fan of speedway and is pleased and proud to lend the name of his hostelry to such a good-cause event.” said Anderson. “It goes without saying that, any of us who live in, or find ourselves passing through, East Lothian would make the Railway Hotel our watering-hole of choice, given the speedway connection!” AND THE LAST NAME IS…….. As has been widely-publicised, riders from all parts of the world have agreed to ‘race for nothing’ at the club’s opening meeting of the year to help foot the bill, making racing safer for the riders who will follow in their tyre-tracks in years to come! Elite League stars Davey Watt, Adam Shields (both from Australia) Poland’s Tomasz Piszcz and top-rated Brit Olly Allen were among the first to put their hands up.. Also confirmed are Matej Kus of Redcar, Glasgow’s Josh Grajczonek, Josef ‘Pepe’ Franc(now Sheffield) Polish starlet Borys Miturski and of course all seven of the 2012 A&J Scott Bandits. The final name was revealed yesterday as Newcastle’s Aussie Christian Henry, returning to the Tyneside club this year after winning the Premier League in 2011 as a Glasgow Tiger. “We have to understand that for this event we only invited volunteers – the riders will not be paid, and all turnstile takings and other receipts will go directly to top up our Fence Fund.” Stated Phil Newton. “What should be emphasised is that the guys who have responded to our appeal are proving themselves the ‘crème de la crème’ of speedway heroes. They are doing the meeting to – as Davey Watt has said – put something back into speedway. We are so proud that they are!” SPONSORS WANTED! 6. 17th March Shielfield Park, Tweedmouth, Berwick upon Tweed FENCE-FUND LINE-UP GETS BETTER AND BETTER! Another star name has been added to the field for the Fence Fund Challenge event to be staged at Shielfield Park on March 17th. As has been widely-publicised, Berwick’s speedway bosses are installing a £45,000 polyfoam safety-fence at the stadium – and riders from all parts of the UK have agreed to ‘race for nothing’ at the club’s opening meeting of the year to help foot the bill, making racing safer for the riders who will follow in their tyre-tracks in years to come! Elite stars Davey Watt, Adam Shields and Olly Allen were among the first to put their hands up.. The club has also club confirmed Matej Kus of Redcar, Glasgow’s Josh Grajczonek, the diminutive Josef ‘Pepe’ Franc and all seven A&J Scott Bandits – with a promise of three more names to come. The first of these names has been revealed, and it is Poland’s Tomasz Piszcz who will this year be linking with Birmingham in the Elite League. The 34-year-old from Lublin has an impressive record on the Berwick circuit, and his return will be welcomed by fans. There are now just two more names to be announced to complete the opening-night line-up. “We have to understand that in this event, we are inviting volunteers – the riders will not be paid, and all turnstile takings and other receipts will go directly to top up our Fence Fund”. “While it would be wonderful to have a clutch of World Champions here to bless the new fence, not all these guys are available – or even in Britain – that night” explained commercial manager Phil Newton last night. “What should be emphasised is that the guys who have responded to our appeal are proving themselves the ‘crème de la crème’ of speedway heroes. They are doing the meeting to – as Davey Watt has said – put something back into speedway. We are so proud that they are!”
