National/premier League Riders Nationality.
foamfence replied to Mad Potter 2's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Don't we have enough overseas riders here already? Personally, I would only allow them in the Elite league. -

That's true, But promoters will try anything to get punters in, it's always been more show than "sport" since John S Hoskins saw a golden opportunity to make money out of it. My pet hate is guests, they make a mockery of the whole thing. How come teams don't seem to have a contracted number eight any more? I think PL teams should have a number of regular NL riders as part of their squad and EL the same with a number of PL riders (at least it would be your team, rather than a select). -

Another idea was tried at the recent indoor short-track meeting, the four riders started as normal and the tac sub came in as an extra rider and started behind the others. -

Ditto!! -
Truly the greatest. At his peak when he was about to visit your track, you expected him to get a maximum or break the track record.....He frequently did both!

There was some talk that leathers might become compulsory instead of kevlar or nylon, but I don't know if it has actually happened.
-
Me too, It's a bargain.

Yes it's true! http://speedwaygp.com/

This looks to be very good news to me, those who don't/can't subscribe to pay TV systems, can get this at a very affordable price, it's certainly tempting to me, are there any snags?
-
Because I can! And because it was actually a response to other posts.I do have as much idea what it is, as anyone else here, so I'm no more "ill-informed" than any other commenter. If anyone else wishes to buy it or play it, fair enough, that's their thing.....It just isn't mine.
-
All of it, but then I don't play games......And it is just my opinion. If others like it, fair enough. I didn't "assume" any such thing.
-
Yes it has, I can't understand how so many people can be bothered about a rather pathetic (just my opinion) card game.

You obviously don't remember Mike Parker.

I think they should have speedway monopoly "you hit a slick patch, go back three squares" or "Darcy ward passes you, you are out of the game" :-)

How To Make Speedway More Appealing To Younger Fans?
foamfence replied to speedwayadict's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
What you have is an ageing audience, your suggestions might drive them away but wouldn't guarantee that younger persons would turn up in numbers. There is evidence in all the major participating countries, that Speedway is in decline, so it isn't just the promoters here, I think it is inevitable that the sport will downsize. -
Too expensive.

How To Make Speedway More Appealing To Younger Fans?
foamfence replied to speedwayadict's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
It might help if there were more speedway games for consoles and more roll play, so you could go home and re-enact races on your console or be any rider you want in any meeting you want, the developers would probably say that the potential market was too small. -
Darcy Showing What A Pro He Is Again

You seem to be very familiar with the jargon.Actually his prize was to make the rest of them look like the second rater's that they are, compared to him. -
How To Make Speedway More Appealing To Younger Fans?
foamfence replied to speedwayadict's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I think Speedway has to become trendy among the general public, that would eventually draw in more youngsters. The difficulty is in getting publicity, particularly in trendy magazines, on trendy TV shows and professionally run radio shows, BikerFM is OK for us seasoned oldies starved of information over the winter, but to anyone not involved it must come across as hopeless, the presenters are basically amateurs, and it shows! I remember Bradford used to visit local schools and dish out free tickets, the kids would arrive to find a virtually empty stadium, no information as to what was supposed to be going on, 90% processional racing and an imbecile of a centre green presenter who tried to get them to join him in embarrassing chants. -

I already mentioned this idea, earlier. -
How Many Heats In A League Meeting ?
foamfence replied to rusky's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I prefer the 13 heat format but would like to see a more structured second half set-up than we used to get, if it ran on the same format at every track, it could contribute to some sort of championship (maybe the British Open) and be used as a lure to increase sponsorship. -
That's very true, but I think there was a bigger market in days gone by. Anyway, we have to remain optimistic that crowds will increase and the hunger for magazines also.

Dissertation Questionnaire- The Results
foamfence replied to speedy19902006's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I wouldn't slag it off, but From what I've seen of it, it won't be to my taste. The Speedway Star has served us well and is even about to be available online, I wouldn't like to think that anything else would weaken it's position, this product is only to be available four times a year, but will it remain like that or will it become a serious rival if it gets established? If past examples are anything to go by, it'll probably fizzle out.
