  1. I would open it up even more . The NL should be open to the likes of Mitchell Davey , Jake Anderson etc , who are perhaps that wee bit below PL standard , but could benefit from NL racing . Surely they would add more to the development of young British riders in regards to competition more than having old stagers like Jon Armstrong and Tony Atkins taking the places of youngsters .

Don't we have enough overseas riders here already? Personally, I would only allow them in the Elite league.

  2. Where's Suzy Perry? :angry::wink:

The question I would like to ask is - WHY do Speedway Meetings have to be kept close 'to maintain interest'. That is rubbish - we are talking about SPORT here. You either win or you lose - you do NOT con the Public by contriving Results. When Man. Utd. are 6-0 up against Sunderland shortly - I can't see Sir Alex Ferguson taking it too well if the F./A. says the next two Goals Sunderland score will count double.

    It's b****y RIDICULOUS!!

That's true, But promoters will try anything to get punters in, it's always been more show than "sport" since John S Hoskins saw a golden opportunity to make money out of it. My pet hate is guests, they make a mockery of the whole thing. How come teams don't seem to have a contracted number eight any more? I think PL teams should have a number of regular NL riders as part of their squad and EL the same with a number of PL riders (at least it would be your team, rather than a select).

  3. No not really but it got your attention didn't it? If I'd have put "Alternative to tac ride/tac sub" you'd have passed it over wouldn't you?

As we all know the tac ride is probably the most disliked rule in the book but most of us understand that it's there to make meetings closer and therefore more exciting, so what are the alternatives?

I was thinking back to the "good old days" when the likes of Barry Briggs, Ove Fundin and Peter Craven went off of a handicap and I thought, could we use something like that today instead of the dreaded tac/ride. When a team get four points or more in front their heat leaders would go off a ten metre handicap until the score got back down to less than six. Imagine the scenario, the turbo twins get a 5/1 in heat thirteen to put Poole 4 points up with no heat leaders in Heat 14 and therefore no handicap it could be drawn heat, come heat 15 with them both off a ten metre handicap and with both opposition heat leaders off the gate what a scrap would endure to at least get one of them past one of the oppostion to hang on for the win.

I haven' trun an imaginary match in my head as it would hurt my brain too much, but I'm sure there's someone out there who will

    Just a thought!

Would there be any promotor out there willing to try it out in a challenge match.

I await your comments and if you disagree, as some undoubtedly will, please refrain form using such adjectives as, "moronic", "stupid" and "idiotic" it is after all only a suggestion and my own opinion.

    Thanks

Another idea was tried at the recent indoor short-track meeting, the four riders started as normal and the tac sub came in as an extra rider and started behind the others.

  4. You've assumed everything.

You are labelling a product 'pathetic' yet you have no idea what it is. That's not an opinion. That's just you making something up to attack a product.

Forgive me for asking, if you don't play 'games' and have no interest in games, why are you posting your ill-informed opinion regarding it?

Because I can! And because it was actually a response to other posts.

I do have as much idea what it is, as anyone else here, so I'm no more "ill-informed" than any other commenter. If anyone else wishes to buy it or play it, fair enough, that's their thing.....It just isn't mine.

  5. What particular part of the game do you find pathetic?

All of it, but then I don't play games......And it is just my opinion. If others like it, fair enough.

I imagine many of the thousands of attendees at Britain's gaming conventions have a similar opinion of speedway. i.e. Why be bothered? Fortunately, there's room in the world for both groups, and even for a few of us with a foot in both camps. If you're not interested in the product that's fine, but don't make the mistake of assuming that there's no market for this type of game. Many card based strategy games are available at specialist game shops across the country, and online.

I didn't "assume" any such thing.

  6. I dont think speedway is an extreme sport nowadays. Lets bring back some of the old ways, allow tape touching, bit of aggro at the start and gamesmanship. Speedway is a non contact sport now, lets give a little bit more room for a bit of bumping and such and maybe the odd fight like at cardiff.

My veiw is Speedway is a working mans sport but the working man has moved up the ladder now,the sport is in some ways beneth them and always been classed as the poor mans bike sport, pikey to prhase a word. All the factorys and industrys where a large porpotion of fans came from have gone.

Get modern music playing by younger dj and involve the kids. Who wants to here tina turner, william tell and the likes played by a 50 year old bloke. All the things wrong are plain to see but most cost money to put right in the short term. No one in speedway has a long term plan or wish to invest.Look at the bsi, they are worried about the lack of new and younger followers as their product is getting less attractive, but they also dont invest there own money and want everything for free, ie transponders and the like. What hope does the UK have. It is now going to be very hard or impossile to turn speedway around as the boat has left the dock and that was in 1990, were now in 2013.Every bussness has to change with the times and bring new things out all the time to keep customers. Speedway hasnt and is now learning a very hard lesson. I really hope it stays around but cant really see it,bit like the old corner shop, was very good but gone now.

What you have is an ageing audience, your suggestions might drive them away but wouldn't guarantee that younger persons would turn up in numbers. There is evidence in all the major participating countries, that Speedway is in decline, so it isn't just the promoters here, I think it is inevitable that the sport will downsize.

  7. You have to think like a youngster too.

Why would I want to leave the warm comfort of my bedroom with my PC/game console. To spend a cold evening, stood in a Siberian wind listening to some old geezer muttering into a mic.

It might help if there were more speedway games for consoles and more roll play, so you could go home and re-enact races on your console or be any rider you want in any meeting you want, the developers would probably say that the potential market was too small.

  8. I think Speedway has to become trendy among the general public, that would eventually draw in more youngsters. The difficulty is in getting publicity, particularly in trendy magazines, on trendy TV shows and professionally run radio shows, BikerFM is OK for us seasoned oldies starved of information over the winter, but to anyone not involved it must come across as hopeless, the presenters are basically amateurs, and it shows! I remember Bradford used to visit local schools and dish out free tickets, the kids would arrive to find a virtually empty stadium, no information as to what was supposed to be going on, 90% processional racing and an imbecile of a centre green presenter who tried to get them to join him in embarrassing chants.

  9. I have NO worries about 'Speedway Star's' survival. It ran for years with a Monthly Magazine - 'Speedway Express' - and, of course the Weekly 'Speedway Mail'. Personally, I hope that this is a success because the more quality periodicals that are available to us Supporters the better as far as I am concerned.

Slightly different I know - but there are also the EXCELLENT offerings from Retro Speedway in the form of 'BackTrack' and 'Classic Speedway'. :t:B)

Very best wishes to 'Inside Speedway'.......................... :)

That's very true, but I think there was a bigger market in days gone by. Anyway, we have to remain optimistic that crowds will increase and the hunger for magazines also.

  10. But you can't complain about the image of the sport and then continue to buy the products that are the image of the sport. If 93% think the sport has an image problem, why do most buy into it then? They're hypocrites.

And if you dare suggest ways to bring in a younger audience the old guard complain about it and call you ageist and think you hate old people. Go and take a look at the new speedway magazine thread, someone is trying something new and fresh so in come the old guard to slag it off.

I wouldn't slag it off, but From what I've seen of it, it won't be to my taste. The Speedway Star has served us well and is even about to be available online, I wouldn't like to think that anything else would weaken it's position, this product is only to be available four times a year, but will it remain like that or will it become a serious rival if it gets established? If past examples are anything to go by, it'll probably fizzle out.
