My first speedway meeting was at New Cross in April 1946. Sadly no riders from that meeting are still with us. RIP.

South African rider Keith Harvey rode for Wimbledon in the mid-1930s. Have any other South Africans ridden for the Dons?

JohnHyam replied to steve povey's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Have you received the answer requested steve povey? From what I see in preceding posts you have not but I could be mistaken? -
In the 1950s rider Cyril Brine's brother Ted (?) was involved in team management.

Words not necessarily - of wisdom!!! - passed on by Doug MacFarlane. -
Over its many seasons how many brothers rode for Wimbledon?
-
Many thanks andout. I repost the question: Who won the first ever race at Wimbledon's opening speedway meeting in 1928?
-
Do you have anyone specific in mind as being the victim of BSF bullying?
-
Did the immediate post-war Wimbledon teams circa 1946 include any riders from their pre-war sides?
-
Who won the first ever race at Wimbledon's opening speedway meeting in 1929?

More research for Bernard 'Bronco' Slade appears elsewhere in YEARS GONE BY. See an update for EXETER RIDER elsewhere.
-
Bernard 'Bronco' Slade was a 1939 Crystal Palace junior. Between 1947 and 1949 he rode for Exeter and was later team manager.
-
Don Hardy was a 1946 junior at New Cross. In 1947 he joined Exeter then in the 1950s moved to Poole. Can any member provide more details about his speedway career please.
-
Am I correct that Don Hardy learned his speedway while in the army from the 1944-45 tracks laid by soldiers in Italy?

Any forumlanders at the 1956 World Final- I think at least one!!
JohnHyam replied to BOBBATH's topic in Years Gone By
Yes I was at the 1956 world final. I recall being in the stadium lift after the the final with other pressmen and the top three in the final. I was given what might be termed 'dirty looks' by the other passengers when I shook Ove Fundin's hand to congratulate him. -
Thank you RoundTheBoards. I made my opening query in regard to 'Bronco' Slade to see if any supporters recalled him in his roles at Exeter Speedway and in later years. I am not seeking personal data about him which a message to Mattie Bates may only result in.
-
Ron Walton rode at California-in-England, Poole and Southampton in the late 1950s. Any details about him would very much be appreciated.
-
Correction: the rider involved with Belfast was not Wal Morton but Val Morton.

Many thanks for the update chunky. I now recall the item but sadly the passing years appear to have taken their toll of me. I can only exit this thread carrying an extremely red face!
