Friday is now the changeover day in the area for holiday makers which is difficult to get them to speedway on their first night there after possibly long journeys. Wednesday's are much better traffic wise for riders I understand too. Obviously Wednesday does clash with Denmark which affects some riders. Who would be a speedway promoter!

Totally agree wed better traffic wise

I asked about the track earlier in the thread and have only had replies to qualify that the outside of the track is non existent at the moment. Is that right?

On Wed Yes but i understand that other meetings have been different which would suggest that it was prepared with the possibility of rain

What’s happened to the track again - in the week we had ‘great action’ which a few years ago wouldn’t of made the top 100 races in a season list, now from reading the updates if you move off the white line you go backwards?? Perhaps someone who was there could clarify.

Spot on Najjer , first time at the OTA this year for me.

Racing wise the track was terrible anyone who went wide went backwards.  Don't know if the possibility of rain influenced the way it was prepared. they used to rip up the outside before the start to create dirt ... not last night though.

    Rowe had a good meeting

  4. Najjer sorry you feel that way but i followed a team that folded .. Exeter   and since then have followed Somerset for my speedway fix ... any speedway is better than none and you miss it when its not there.

The OTA is top racing whatever league you are in and the management do a good job unlike others.

hope to see you there sometime all the best to you and your family

Who's paying travel cost? cash strapped rebels!

Who said Somerset were strapped for cash in the Championship,

Premiership possibly,  "cut  your coat according to the cloth" comes to mind

They had the sense not to throw money away so that they could operate at a lower level , not like some other clubs who have gone to the wall (unfortunately)

The thing is though most of the teams in the league are Northern based so there will be very few away supporters at most home meetings so I don’t really get the argument about the traffic, the club managed ok for over a decade on Fridays (noting traffic will always be worse on a Fri compared to a Wed).

Its simply not the same on a Weds the feel good factor of starting the weekend on a Friday night at the Racing  cannot be replicated on a Weds night plus less kids will be in attendance as it’s a school night.

Fridays on the M5 are horrendous I travel up from Exeter and that's really bad, coming the other way is even worse.

I'm sure you will find it was for financial reasons the Rebels dropped from the Premier league. However I think the common view that Wednesday proved a far better choice of race night,  only because it avoided the Friday M5 jams. So if you have a way to avoid the Friday traffic jams I'm sure the Hancocks would like to know!

I assure you transportation on a wed is far easier than a Friday

With the sad demise of Workington where will BWD now ride in the Championship? Most Rebels supporters would welcome him back @ the Oaktree.......... over to you Gary May.

i think you will find BWD was offered a contract By GM but BWD turned it down.

  9. This explains a few things from the Rebels web site

Garry May delighted the gathering of over 100 supporters at the Oaktree Arena on Tuesday night when he confirmed the return of Nico Covatti and the addition of Cornishmen Chris Harris to the Rebels fold.

Earlier the assembly had heard that the Rebels management found themselves in a no-win situation at the AGM conference as they were keen to continue in the Premiership but a combination of costs and the need to change race nights again made it impractical to maintain their membership at the top flight.

Debbie Hancock said "I am sat here this evening still gutted and feeling a sense of failure that we can't bring you the top level speedway, but our ultimate aim has to be the long-term future of Somerset speedway, something that Garry and Dad Bill, share my passion for, so I can only hope that our supporters will continue to support us. We do struggle with footfall here at Somerset because we are not a big town club like many of the Premiership rivals so we have to manage our costs carefully and we could not afford the high costs associated in that league."

With a team limit of 38 points to work with for the Championship, Garry May admitted "it has been devilishly hard to work within such a limit but I promise Rebels fans I will put together the best possible team I can that will not break us as a club. I can confirm that Nico Covatti will be returning after his excellent time here last season when he came on board mid-season and I can also reveal that a deal has been done with Chris Harris who is very keen to ride for us and I believe will do a great job.
