    Ice Speedway 2022

The Finnish final IS on Feb 26th at Varkaus until it’s postponed or cancelled for any reason. They are also planning another event earlier in the season, but thats not confirmed AFAIK. It made me smile a bit reading that a potential ice racing fan cant make it to Varkaus because the airport has closed. It was funny because of the airport, didnt mean to be mean in anyway. When it closed a local Finnair administrator actually became somewhat famous as she continued to work there for a while before her retirement. She was the only one there and had a tv doc and many newspaper reports made of her… Go to svemo.se and look for isracing and tävlingskalendar and you’ll find about half a dozen meetings to be ridden in Sweden. The big ones are the SM on March 18th and Individual Nordic on March 19th up in the north of Sweden. And of course the wc quali next weekend in Övik.

I'm pretty confident they've only come up with this in the past week or so.
  5. How can they? IMO the only thing that is better than it was in 2000 is Ekstraliga, which can be argued is now as a good of a product as SGP. Overdue or not, no comments. Everything else regarding our sport has... Well, you should know.
  6. When I ”started” he won his last U21 title in -04 or something. He’s not going anywhere.
  7. Copypaste from FIM After two very restricted seasons, followers of Long Track can look forward to a full programme of events in 2022 with six Finals scheduled in the calendar now published by FIM. Rzeszow opens the championship in June followed by Mühldorf in July and Scheessel in August. September brings a feast of meetings in Morizes, Vechta and Roden. FIM have also announced the full list of riders for the season which includes the top seven riders from last year’s competition. Current champion Romano Hummel heads the list and is joined by former winners Martin Smolinski, Dimitri Bergé and Lukas Fienhage. Theo Pijper, Chris Harris and Josef Franc are other names that will be familiar to fans. Qualifying from 2021’s Long Track Challenge, Germany’s Max Dilger will join Britain’s Zack Wajtknecht another European Champion, promising Pole Stanislaw Burza and Czech Martin Malek returns at 36 years of age. Permanent Wild Cards for the series will be Kenneth Kruse Hansen strongly tipped by Danish legend Erik Gundersen as a future world champion. He performed well in 2020 with a silver medal but missed 2021 due to an early season injury. Former European Champion James Shanes is also included and is another whose progress has been held back by injury. Finally, Mathieu Trésarrieu, champion in 2017 and four-times bronze medallist returns to the series. Substitute riders to be called on in the event of injury will be • Hynek Stichauer (Czech Republic) who finished 8th in the 2021 Challenge • Gaetan Stella (France) gradually rising in the French rankings • Dave Meijerink (The Netherlands) 21 years old and a promising prospect • Jakob Bukhave (Denmark) Danish Long Track Champion • Julien Cayre (France) 11th in the 2021 Challenge • Tero Aarnio (Finland) extensive speedway experience The curtain opener for the 2022 season will be the Long Track of Nations to be held in Herxheim, Germany at the traditional Father’s Day meeting on May 26th when nine national teams will compete. Provisional 2022 Long Track calendar • TBA-Final-Rzeszow (POL)-PZM • 03 July-Final-Mühldorf (GER)-DMSB • 21 August-Final-Scheessel (GER)-DMSB • 03 September-Final-Morizès (FRA)-FFM • 10 September-Final-Vechta (GER)-DMSB • 25 September-Final-Roden (NED)-KNMV

Just realised there is no ice SoN for this winter. Any info on that?
  10. Spent a night in Warsaw on our way home from Torun recently. It’s a BIG city with skyscrapers everywhere. For some reason did not like it, at all. I’d do Wroclaw if I had the chance.

So had I written ”contact the local promoter” instead of club it would have been ok? It makes me smile reading that I just cant ring a promoter in the UK and tell him I want to organise a training day. Why the heck not? If I had the money I’d call Lemon tomorrow I dont know everything about how speedway is run in the UK, but I know enough. Think my first post mentioned also finding the money that is necessary to run the said training session. I know how speedway is run and how it operates over here, and contacting the local club would be the first step in order to organise a training day or school or whatever…

It would seriously alter the cost stucture of the teams and I dare say it would be cheaper to run a team of 5-2 in favour of own riders than the other way around. Also in my theory locals would come see local riders. The way things are currently heading with covid, travel, speedway on the continent and brexit, IMO there is no return to how things were five years ago. With this I mean the supply of foreign riders to ride and/or base themselves in the UK is not increasing. So more domestic/british riders, more locals, cheaper teams, bigger crowds.

It’s directed to everyone complaining how badly things are run.

Stop complaining on what other people do. Contact your local track and start organising practise sessions for youngsters between 14-20 on 500cc bikes. If the club wont finance it, find the money yourself and DO IT. Lack of domestic riders in the UK is the very basic problem of speedway, been that way for 30 years.

Russian sponsor... So you don't mean the men in black leather coats with plastic bags full of it?

Russian ice speedway being cancelled due to lack of funds... Never thought I'd read that.

    Swindon Stadium

...and in the latest news if the BSPA don't do it, someone else will latest 2023. Maybe not ban cos it sounds bad, but a contract clause that does the same.
  20. I wrote it to stir, but in all honesty, why not? It's their baby and they know it.

Has Kelv put his heating on yet?

Have not heard anyone better in the 20 years I've listened... It might be the fact that in the GP's they've not been trackside this season so the latest gossip isnt available as it would be if you were having a beer with everyone the night before... Therefor me also thinks this year its been wearing thin.
  22. No restrictions, a sell-out meeting. Thought myself it was funny to see so much empty seats.
  23. Spot on on the track prep. I’ve not yet had time to go through all the changes that will restore all the glory of the sport, but track prep will be a major disaster me thinks.
