  1. I just got a feeling we are in for a treat Saturday evening - just hope the weather behaves itself and doesn't make a soggy mess of things.

    Ronnie Moore seriously ill

So sad to loose one of the greats. I remember him as part of the "fabulous five" - Moore, Craven, Briggs, Knutsson, and Fundin in the early 60's - they started of 30 yards as they were so good. I missed him at his probable best in the mid-late fifties, but yes, something special to watch when I did see him.
  3. I would like to ask the riders where GPs should be held. I would like to think that majority would choose racing tracks, and I would expect indoor arena tracks to be included. I wouldn't want to see less then 10, nor more then 12.
  4. Robert did a really good job last, really is making fast progress. The meeting was pretty "ordainary", seen better gps from Latvia, but it was certainly watchable.

Swindon v Belle Vue 16 August

So a Championship (Ipswich) meeting takes preference over a Premiership (BV) meeting. What a laugh. Can you imagine a Man Utd first team player not turning out because hes playing for Watford. Couldn't make it up. Some VERY serious sorting out to be done to get speedway out of the dung.

    The continuing decline of Speedway

I was sat in my local café this lunchtime reading one of the daily national morning papers and I usually start at the back page and move forward. Surprised to see a good half page about Moto GP from Austria the day before (Sunday), but then there was a much smaller report re Saturdays speedway GP in Malilla, sadly it started about the TW NP spat. Results were given, also a bit about British Superbikes from Thruxton and British Touring Car championship from Rockingham. The a list of speedway fixtures for tonights speedway. Its a long time since I seen so much about motor sport in general (apart from F1 at Silverstone) and was genuinely surprised. Speedway was still "a little bit", but hey - its a start.
  7. Paul Hurry name sounds familiar, is he relative to the Paul Hurry from good few years ago. Same with Tom Perry, any relation to Perry's of the 70's
  8. Who dare disagree with you! I'm not
  9. Well done Pinny, you got that call Pederson to win dead right. However they managed to turn that track into a race circuit I don't know, but however they did it British track curators need to take note. As for the racing, obviously early to mid races were a bit predictable, but towards the end some fantastic racing given to us. Like others I not too keen on the moves that particularly NP and Freddie do, but tonights moves by them were just about ok IMO. Certainly TW was winging about something which was ok. Interesting how the 2 top Poles crumbled in the semis, they could easily have been 1-2-3. Well done Zagar, just wish he could be consistently good, he has a good style and he is clean. Roll on the next meetings, it will take some to catch TW but sure is a lot of interest in positions 2-10. Unless things change Artum, Greg and Emils places are looking dodgy.

    King's Lynn v Belle Vue 08-08-2018

Seems to me the only sport I seen that the players are honest and admit what the ref may not of seen is Snooker. Even in the world championship I seen players, in crucial matches, point out to the ref that they fouled ie maybe moved a ball the shouldnt so slightly that the ref never saw it. In football you get theatrical dives, you get the "hand of god", speedway riders will know pretty well they caused a rider to move at the tapes, or were beaten by half a bikes length..... but don't seem to play fair and tell the referee. Sad, but probably relates society in general to day.… "me first".

    King's Lynn v Belle Vue 08-08-2018

I wasn't there, but read about the refs awful decisions from BV supporters, SO this was very nice to hear it from a Kings Lynn supporter, very honest of the poster g13webb, to be commended. Something missing generally these days. Why should a ref get away with these terrible decisions? Why is there not photo finish cameras, or videos recordings for instant replay or to be sent to SCB or whoever controls meetings. Decisions like this make a big difference to a teams future. From all accounts BV are struggling financially and missing out on the playoffs due to poor decisions like at KL may cost them dearly - we know crowds shoot up for the playoffs. Speedway in the UK is on "life support machine", its critical that all teams survive, but fair play, or lack of it, could mean the life support machine being turned off for some teams.

    NO WORD FROM THE BSPA

3 lap 45 second races instead of 4 lap 60 second races - spectators will end up paying the same for 15 races at 45 seconds. Why do you want 45 second races, those tracks that can be altered should be altered to allow exciting racing. If as you say “most modern results are decided after lap one (well by bend 2 mostly)”, sound like you really want to advocate ONE lap races.

    Belle Vue v King's Lynn 06/08/18

So how do you get from "The two engine rooms proving to be the difference this evening" to "Compare the scores for riders 3 & 4" ?????

Sorry, I lost, what does that mean???

    NO WORD FROM THE BSPA

I didn't mean "we", the fans, get the word out (though we can play a part). Its the speedway clubs job todo it in a professional way, I agree

    NO WORD FROM THE BSPA

Whats the point in 3 lap races? A 4 lap race is lets say, 60seconds, and we get 15 races. So we make a race approx. 40 seconds, just cant see that stimulating interest. Lots of races are won by an overtake on the last lap, last bend even...…. so we cut that out.....sounds good (not). A meeting as a package has to change. Races need to be "snappier", cut out time wastage ie you going to get false starts, but cut out the pit gates opening, send them straight back to the tapes. Give them time for "gardening" but keep it to a minute or less. Whole meeting entertainment needs upping. Anyone remember Johnnies Marching Girls at Belle Vue…. put on whatever the modern equivalent of that is. Riders that win a 5-1 go a lap with the club flag, like I seen in Sweden, Get the riders to interact with the crowd, signing autographs etc, even if its over the fence at the interval (doesn't seem much chance after the meeting as the "stars" are often away quick to their next country, so I read). Add 5 races at the end of the 15 heat league match. First 2 will be for the 4 top scorers of each team, top two in each race will go to a final (race 5). Race 3 and 4 will be for the reserves plus local juniors. The race 5, should be able to get local sponsors for £250 prize money for the winner. Publicity seems to be lacking, need someone to be tackling local radio stations, local newspapers, and billboards still play an important part is advertising. Get members of the team at local super markets during the afternoon of an event - with bikes, stickers, autographs etc. Get the word out.

    Belle Vue v King's Lynn 06/08/18

Seems that, generally speaking, have their best engines in Poland, and it looks like they use UK speedway of making pocket money. Probably cost teams a lot of money in the process. Will all get sorted in the efforts that have to take place to kick British speedway into a better place.
  18. So I guess Aussie won - so what, why not. Its the first test match in years Team GB has been in (Great Britain is too long so I gonna keep calling them Team GB or even GB). The youngsters have got to start somewhere and now they done it. Its a yardstick been laid and that's a good thing.

    Poole v Kings Lynn. Prem B. 1st August 2018

I don't know for sure, but with the water level around the stadium being so high maybe they would not get any dispensation re use of waste oil. Hasn't it been said that high tide even makes a difference to drainage of the track and area.
  20. OveFundinFan

Poole should be docked points and fined

That is total rubbish Starman. I don't care which team it is. Dumping oil is against the law, whoever does it. Even changing your car engine oil, the old oil has to be disposed of in accordance with the law, the council/private waste disposal units provide containers for used oil, you just cant dump wherever you want. You be telling me next its ok to drive up a lovely country lane and just dump my old mattress or old fridge.

Poole should be docked points and fined

Cant believe how the majority of the Poole fans on here seem to think pouring oil onto the track, on purpose or accidently is OK. Totally irresponsible.

    Poole v Kings Lynn. Prem B. 1st August 2018

Unbelievable statement. It might be "their" track ie Poole....but they cannot do as they please. Why do you think riders have to have an oil catcher? Because dropped oil is not good for the environment. Oil was poured on the track (an "accident" is no defence) so its an offence. Environment Agency should be involved in this, and if oiling the track to bind the shale is being done regularly then expect a heavy fine. Next thing is it will be said "oil helps keep the dust down".
  23. and here is me thinking sponsors for a struggling sport would be most welcome. Perhaps not !

    Cardiff 2018 21st July

That's about the tops with the stand on bend 3-4. To make the money they would have to do a pay-as-you-view special. I would accept that even though I BT TV subscriber.
