Who COULD Have Been a Major Force in World Speedway?
Gert Handbag replied to chunky's topic in Years Gone By
I would add David Shields into this list. A talented Aussie, but was happier being at home on the farm. A great season in 1981 for the Heathens, and looked like he was going to kick on, but sadly never returned or (as far as I'm aware) rode in anger again. He could tell all of his friends and family though that he rode with Bruce Penhall and Erik Gundersen. -
This is such fantastic news, fingers crossed. Whilst there are many Cradley legends, if this does happen could we have a match with Wolves for the Nigel Pearson trophy?

I started in 1980, so might have been after McCormick. Certainly early 1980's.

If John Downer is behind this (and I stand to be corrected) he seems to be local to Coventry, based in Solihull - according to public record at Companies House. If it is the same John Downer, here is an article about him https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Risk+taking+is+necessary+for+anyone+hoping+to+be+successful+in...-a076840456

I seem to remember that Eddie jumped at a few speedway tracks. He certainly jumped at Dudley Wood during a speedway meeting I was at. Only a small jump, more of a PR thing.

Interviews by Lee Ashby - David's Son
Gert Handbag replied to steve roberts's topic in Years Gone By
I agree Steve. I'm grateful to both Lee and the former riders for giving up their time to do it though. If it were a professional "paid for" interview, then expectations would be higher. -
Interviews by Lee Ashby - David's Son

Great interview with Kelvin last night. There will be a part 2 at some stage. Chris Morton up tonight, and Gary Havelock on Thursday -
I've just seen this on youtube. Tragic.

God bless Nigel. Loads of tributes tonight, and rightly so. I'll remember him as s Speedway nut, Baggies fan, and a man who tried to save Cradley. Legend.

Lee did a great two hour interview with Greg Hancock this week. I would encourage anyone interested to take a look on Youtube. -

Just to let those who are interested know, on 2nd Feb at 7.00PM Lee will be interviewing 2 former multi World Champions, and Heathens legends, Bruce Penhall and Erik Gundersen. I can't wait. Ommer 'um, Cradley!! -

The interview with Ole Olsen was good last night, but unfortunately the link kept dropping out. I agree on Lee's questions, but he should be applauding on bringing all of the legends onto Youtube. These are people we have probably wondered about, but save the odd interview here or there, have long since disappeared from our lives. Lee said last night he was lining up a joint interview in the new year with Penhall & Gundersen. I can't wait for that one. -

I saw the one last night with Erik Gundersen. Fantastic. I've enjoyed all of the interviews that Lee has done, and it's great that legends like Penhall & Gundersen are commenting live during the interviews of others as well. -
I deal a lot with offshore companies - they are offshore for a reason, and not necessarily good reasons. Also the ownership is likely to be via a complex trust arrangement. The "Beneficial Owners" do not need to be the registered directors, and the directors can be "nominees". I'm not saying that this is the case here, because I haven't researched the company, but it is very easy to hide yourself from public registers. If you were committed to hide your identity, it would be very easy to do it via an offshore company with a nominee structure.

British Final
Gert Handbag replied to phillipsr's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
I think it is now time for something radical. We have a national stadium, and it's fantastic. It's fast, well prepared (eventually) and modern. Similar to the big European tracks that we lament our riders have no experience upon. The future is the kids from the National League, and upwards. Bomber & Nicholls have been great servants, but they aren't the future. In terms of the World Cup team, Woffy is a given, but one experienced rider (Nicholls/Harris - I would go Nicholls), Lambert and a couple of kids. We won't win it, but we have to plan for the future/ Why not put an aspiring National League rider at reserve?? Let's think 5 years hence, not "damage limitation"?? Danny King was brilliant on Monday, but is he the future for the 2020 final? That is where we need to be aiming.
