  1. It is with the utmost regret and disappointment we have been forced to cancel tomorrows end of season Big Bash event at the Adrian Flux Arena, King's Lynn. The forecasts on the Met Office, BBC and Accuweather all show a massive band of sustained heavy rain running west to east the full length of the country with the probability figure up at 90% from mid day through to late evening so there simply wouldn't be the opportunity to get the meeting on. With the Hackney Hawks facing the Oxford Cheetahs in the Club Class, The Crayford Kestrels taking on the Wembley Lions in the Intermediate Class and the St Austell Gulls going head to head with the Coatbridge Tigers in the Support Class in an overall 'Birds' versus 'Cats' accumulative challenge the event had all the makings of another Dragons Classic, following on the from the previous event's one point victory for Swaffham over Hunstanton by 54 points to 53. Despite the weathers intervention and some issues with events being cancelled beyond our control, the Club continues to go from strength to strength and we already have exciting plans in the pipeline for 2017. Many thanks to everyone who has supported the Club this year, it is very much appreciated, Russ
  2. Dragons Amateur Speedway Club bring the curtain down on another memorable season with their annual Big Bash Event under the floodlights at the Adrian Flux Arena, this Saturday, with a 4pm start. Places are still available to ride, all classes, abilities and bike sizes, contact Claire on 07904 234022 or 01438 355009 to reserve your place. The event is open to members and non-members alike, day membership is available.
  3. *** PLEASE CHECK OUT THE CLUB'S NEW WEBSITE AT www.dragonsamateurspeedway.com Dragons Amateur Speedway Club in it's ninth season of existence continues to go from strength to strength with what will go down in the Club's history as the best and most exciting event to date at Iwade recently. Back at the Clubs spiritual home in Kent, thirty-two riders took to the Old Gun Site shale and produced racing of the highest order which saw both the seven-a-side team event and the pairs event go down to the very last heat respectively ! The Club/Intermediate Class Challenge saw the Dartford Devils with a slender three point advantage at the halfway point, Steve Lockyer, Andrew Palmer and Jim Wannell all registering race wins but a second half rally from the Rainham Rebels with five race wins in six heats saw them five points up with just two heats remaining and surely the meeting in the bag, a trio of back-to-back victories for Graham Knowler and Eryk Borzczuch seeing the Rebels get one hand on the silverware. However, the Devils had other ideas, a Palmer/Adrian Harden 5-1 in the penultimate heat saw the gap demolished and the teams went into the final race with the Rebels just one point ahead. Two laps into the final race and Mr Consistency Knowler held a comfortable lead over Lockyer and Tim Mount, a shared heat which would have secured a Rebels victory, only for Lockyer to summon up all of his grit and determination to reel the leader in and pass him with one lap remaining. The latter gave it his best shot to get back in front but to no avail and the Lockyer/Mount 4-2 was enough to secure a well deserved Devils victory by 54-53. Mentions must go to 'Suicide Syd' Sherman who kicked off his day with paid win before crashing out in his second ride and being forced to withdraw with an injured shoulder, to Club Co-Organiser Steve 'Cookie' Cook who looked untouchable aboard his vintage machine, bagging two wins and paid win in his first three outings before bailing out unceremoniously from a 1000cc sidecar and a coming together with the fence in his next solo outing and like Sherman withdrawing from his final ride. Last but by no means least a mention for Club newcomer Mike Copestake, who despite punching slightly above his weight never for one moment gave up and was fabulously rewarded with a heat win in his fourth outing, top job bud. Huge congratulations to all those involved in the challenge for making it such a fabulous 'nail-biter'. Running parallel with the above the Support Pairs saw two riders fail to make it to the circuit but to their absolute credit Paul Whichello and Steve Jay stepped up to the plate, moving from practice to competition..................a decision that was wholly repaid with both riders bagging a brace of race wins !! The event saw Mark Anderson and Francesca Kirtley-Paine return to the Club after long absences and was great to have them back, while there were debuts for Francesca's father Gary, Kevin Bishop and Chris Timms along with Jay and Whichello. After three rides apiece it was Timms and Richard Sar-Butt who held a slender two point lead over Anderson and Martin Brown, with both Timms and Anderson recording a trio of race wins respectively, with Whichello and 'Cesca' Paine breathing down their necks in third. Yet another heat win for Anderson and a 7-2 heat advantage saw the pair go level at the top of the scorechart as Timms & Sar-Butt could only manage a 5-4, in a heat won brilliantly by Whichello. The scene was now set for a 'winner' takes all (or second & third !!) showdown between the two leading pairs, sitting on 25 points apiece. Psychologically, the advantage was with Anderson & Brown with the former unbeaten thus far, but in the final reckoning it was debutant Timms that lead from start to finish and with Brown unable to find a way past Sar-Butt despite being all over him like a rash they took the well deserved spoils. The head-to-head for third place saw Tony Raybould and Kevin Bishop secure the bronze placing with a 6-3 advantage over Whichello and 'Cesca' Joining the seniors on the day was another Club debutant, youngster Reece Sharp who put in some impressive laps on his 150cc machine. And so with the weather at it's very best and a superbly prepared and maintained track, helped tremendously by heavy rain the previous day and night a fabulous day was had by all. We now look to keep that going as we head to Suffolk and our second event of the season at Kevin Jolly's Mildenhall on Saturday July 16th. As always, the event is open to members and non-members alike, entry fee is just £40 (£45 including day membership to the Club) The event is also open to riders of all abilities, you will only be competing with those of similar ability, the Club is not just one big free-for-all. Start time for the event is 11am. Entries for the event close this Sunday (10th) and places can be secured by contacting Claire on 07904 234022 or 01438 355009. She does work full time so if she is unable to answer your call please leave a message or send a text and she will confirm, thank you. 4. Following a fabulously successful and top notch event at The Old Gun Site, Sittingbourne in the baking sun a couple of weeks ago, the Dragons Club takes to the track again this weekend at The Adrian Flux Arena, King's Lynn, with a 1pm start time. It is an eagerly anticipated return to the home of The Stars following a couple of our Powerslide Speedway Schools, already held there this year where the track has been absolutely top class and remained so throughout the day. As always the Dragons family and its fabulously friendly atmosphere welcomes regulars and newcomers alike. All abilities and bike sizes welcome too. 5. Dragons Amateur Speedway Club will make the long awaited return to its spiritual home on Sunday week, May 8th, 12pm start time This event has been a long time coming in light of the issues that the track has been going through but with the help and fabulous co-operation of Paul Sanding and Graham Arnold the Club is very much looking forward to returning to the Old Gun Site. Following on from a successful season opener at Mildenhall last weekend we are now fully up and running charging headlong into the 2016 season. Our thanks go to Kevin Jolly and his team at West Row for making us all very welcome and for giving us a track that allowed everyone who joined us the chance to put themselves fully through their paces. Sunday week will be our first competitive event of the year and as always is open to anyone that wishes to join us, even if you'd prefer to just practice in between the heats. The event is open to all ages and abilities, you will only be riding against people of similar ability, not just dumped in a class because of the type of bike you ride. Members and non-members alike with day membership being available on the day. To reserve your place contact Claire Evans on 07904 234022 or 01438 355009. Entries close on Monday 2nd May so there is still plenty of time to get your entries in for what will be a very emotional return. Look forward to seeing you there, Russ

Congratulations to our success Club/Intermediate winning pair of Ian Leverington and Jim Wannell along with further congrats to the successful Dexy's Midnight Racers, who ran out resounding winners of the team event, though the losing side were not helped by the failure to appear of couple of their riders, a similar situation to that in the Pairs event, with two lone riders having to partner up. 14. Following yet another 'down to the wire' event for Dragons Amateur speedway Club, we return to King's Lynn for our next instalment of on track action. The action was fast & furious in the Suffolk heat on Saturday 11th, as the Club that innovates and not stagnates, put on a thrilling 23 Heater between the Mildenhall Marauders and the West Row Warriers. Unfortunately, once again, let down by some riders that don't possess the decency to event send a message to say they wouldn't be joining us, the event went ahead and saw the Warriers storm into a 3-13 lead after just three heats. The Marauders plugged away and clawed back the deficit, finding themselves just a point down after ten races. By heat thirteen they were level and four races later they found themselves in front to the surprise of many. Over the next few races they steadily increased their lead, and at Heat Nineteen the Marauders had pulled out a six point advantage. A 3-0 to the Warriers in Heat 21 saw the gap shrink to just one point with two heats to go, and a shared Heat 22 saw the Marauders take just a one point lead into the Final Heat. The race saw long time Dragons member Mike Osborne and debutant David Chiles take on James King and another debutant Chris Watts. A 4-2 in the favour of the Marauders saw them over the line by 64 points to 61. So with racing going down to the very last couple of heats two events of the trot we look forward to more of the same when we return to King's Lynn on Sunday 26th July, with a 1pm start. The events are open to members and non-members alike and we cater for all abilities and engine sizes. Please contact Julie Tutton to reserve your place on 01633 858899 or 07920 002975. Entries for this event close this Sunday, the 21st so don't miss out, get in touch asap. So if you like your amateur racing with some effort put in and in a friendly & helpful atmosphere then Dragons is the place to be ! See you there, Russ
  15. Following on from one of the best meetings in Dragons history a couple of weeks ago at the Adrian Flux Arena, the Dragons Club return to track action where one of the FIM World Cup events takes place later tonight on Sunday June 28th. Amateur speedway's most innovative Club saw two eleven-a-side teams battle out a hard fought afternoon over thirty three heats, with King's United running out 115-92 winners over West Lynn Albion. Mark Whitehead, Eryk Borczuh, Alex Wilson and Duane Wurzberger accumulated 18pt max, 17, 15+1 and 15 respectively for the victors while Lee Harris was the undoubted star of the losing side with an awesome 24 point maximum, including double victories while on tactical rides ! Support for Harris came from Graham Knowler (14+2) and Mark Bibby (14). The event also saw a Dragons debut that epitomises what the Club is all about, when 58 year old Richard Boyd, here in the UK on holiday from Donnybrook, Western Australia joined the victorious team following his Ride n Slide Day at Mildenhall the previous day, only his second time aboard a speedway machine. His paid 10 return on the day included three very commendable second places and he returns to the other side of the world in a couple of weeks time proudly clutching his winners medal, in his words he "achieved something beyond his wildest dreams !!" and that is what we are all about. Attention now turns to our next event when we return to KIng's Lynn for another 1pm start. As always our events are open to anyone member and non-members alike and of all abilities. Entries can be made to Julie Tutton on 01633 858899 or 07920 002785, entries close on Sunday June 21st so book early to avoid missing out. All engine sizes are catered for too with youngsters joining us last time out on 125,150 and 250 sized engines. Following June 28th we head off for the first time this year to West Row on Saturday July 11th. After losing out on a visit there last year we are really looking forward to taking the Club across from Norfolk to Suffolk and to the home of the Fen Tigers and the MK Knights. ** With Julie on holiday leading up to this event bookings should be made with me Russ, on 07976 424145/01438 355009 or via email at info@speedwayridenslidedayz.com , so we look forward to seeing you at either or both of the events. Russ
