Speedways governors have failed us
00000 replied to ruckerroo's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Government now talking of October 1 for crowds in football stadiums -- Premier League, according to Guardian. I'm www.utterly-confused.dot.com -
I was looking at the Eastbourne website and the interview with Ian Jordan. He was sitting in what was once called the Royal Box. I can see the seats are numbered. I can't remember them being numbered last year. Maybe they wear and I took no notice.
-
You will be most welcome--guess you will have to buy tickets in advance so numbers can be controlled and for people's name/addresses register for the track and trace folk. We have to hope for a dry autumn. Fingers crossed.

I'm holding on to the hope of some speedway late-on at Arlington this year, after listening to Ian Jordan today. Be great to get some action in 2020, even it is limited to some October action. I wonder if Eagles will also have a run at NDL level. They've got the bones of a decent team, depending on the averages. A couple of CL-level matches, some ND, all backed with the MSDL Seagulls would be a real result.

Me too

I'm really getting into Polish Speedway. Was always a quick skim in the past to see if any Eastbourne riders got a mention. Following it now and reading the heat details.
-
The decision whether to open, run meetings and the type of meeting is down to individual promoters. Personally, I don't see this proposed travelling 'circus' as a crowd puller.
-
Defeatist and brave in the same breath. But what else can you do? I've watched speedway at Central Park a few times but can't now recall: is it a greyhound track? If so, no surprise they have bailed out of 2020.

It is just the leagues that have been binned. Clubs have an option to run challenge matches in October, if crowds are allowed.

I didn't see that but I would not be surprised. Those really were the days

Superb news this morning about the Eagles youngsters, all called up for European action next month. Club assets Tom Brennan and Jason Edwards, along with Drew Kemp, on loan from Ipswich, are in the Euro u-19 qualifier on August 14. Tom is in the Euro U21 qualifier on August 1. This is brilliant for these youngsters and for the Eagles. Eastbourne have gone down the route the last couple of years of backing the Brits. Shows what can be done. Especially pleased for Tom, after last year's terrible injury. I'm told he has had lots of laps already this year in practice sessions, has worked on his body strength, and is looking really strong. Congratulation to Tom, Jason and Drew and to the Eagles management.

Cyril Crane used to get the crowd going wild, cheering, booing as he stalked over the centre green at King's Lynn, up the ladder where he was then seen wildly waving his arms around in the referee's box and going generally bananas. Crowd loved it. Cyril did this for total effect (on most occasions) to get the crowd going. He would be asking the ref: would you like a cup of tea? do you take milk? What about sugar? Can we get you some crisps, or a chocolate bar? Those were certainly the days.

I think for speedway 20 per cent will be insufficient in many cases.
-
Ove Fundin came to King's Lynn once for a 2nd half.

Probably not the media...as the words are used in many countries. Probably the words were first used by WHO. Be interesting to know.

Amber light at the very best

To me, that seems to be a statement which is far less bullish than some of the comments issued by BSPL over the last few weeks. I sense there is a sad realisation that there will be no league speedway this year. Best we can hope for is possibly a couple of 'friendlies' or individual meetings and I guess some tracks won't bother at all. As I have said before, we need to see where football fits in with crowd numbers. Non league football crowds are often similar in size to speedway.

Sensible move. Content is king and although I have only had time for quick flick, it looks as good as ever. Pity you have lost all the shop sales -- those folk don't know what they have missed this last four months

For some older fans, this issue of the Speedway Star may be quite 'difficult'. No criticism of the Star for doing it. They will, I am sure, do a very good job and in a sensitive way. However, it will bring back some pretty sad memories. Having said that, I am glad it has been well 'trailed' by the Star so I can prepare myself.

I didn't know that but it would be no surprise. Terry and Colin Pratt were very close and lived fairly near each other, I believe, near Harlow.

Terrible shock. Totally stunned when I found out. As a Lynn fan at the time, it hit hard because of the connections with some of the dead and injured.

CVS also said refund was available in his article. so money back or roll it over if you wish
