Hi guys , planning on coming down for the meeting on Sunday against the tigers with a few friends , forecast not looking good for the weekend , was going to leave 6am on Saturday morning and driving down to Brighton and staying overnight before travelling to Eastbourne , can you please give your best opinion if this meeting will go ahead , many thanks in advance .

    A. Have you got your ticket? No on-the-day cash/card admission

    B. Eastbourne have their own weather forecast expert who says it looks that things will be OK.

    C. If I was you, I would get a few hours south on Saturday and check again; ie: don't get to Brighton before looking. Have a stop at around 10am and see what the news is.

Sadly my interest hasnt been rekindled.... after a year "off" from speedway I had a few meetings pencilled in ...  as always the British weather intervened and advance purchase of tickets is not something I am going to do with dodgy weather forecasts.   Set my mind on going to see Jason Crump at Kent ... but sadly he was injured.  The Championship speedway team at Kent has been decimated by retiring riders , injuries and  even absent youngsters in championship qualifier meetings. Just Scott Nicholls as a heat leader.  AS for the NDL thats now a training league, and overpriced at Kent.

The little TV coverage I have seen on Discovery + has been appalling ......still the delayed starts and restarts ...... interspersed with so many adverts.

Looking at a tasty encounter EB vs Glasgow , but the silly so and so's at EB have made it a DAYTIME meeting.  Never seen a good one yet.

Think I am back to where I was last year with little enthusiasm to visit my local tracks at least until I can turn up and buy a ticket, choose where I want to sit/stand and not have to wear a mask for 2 plus hours.

Sunday afternoon fixtures at Arlington are planned when the team have had a long haul to the north on a Friday night. Most of the team wouldn't get home and into bed until 5am on the Saturday  morning.

The club announced some long time ago that they would run on a Sunday after a long run to the north on a Friday to to look after their riders health and safety.

Yes, a club looking after its riders (and the supporters who make these long trips).

And, by the way, Eastbourne have a long and successful tradition of running meetings on a Sunday afternoon. It is part of the club's history and it still remains a popular time with many supporters.

I can't believe this is even a debate. We can't control what the weather does lol. The forecast was for us to miss it, but we didn't. I live about 20 mins away from the track and I'd had rain on and off all day after the call off. The club called it off as soon as they realised it wasn't going to miss us

Therein lies the problem for Mildenhall Speedway.

Oh I'm not doubting that. My point was that he was going to be there early regardless of what time we called the meeting off lol if that is of course who he was referring to

If you live on the Sussex coast you need to leave before 11 to ensure you get to Mildenhall in time for a 3pm start

I am devastated that the two meetings have been cancelled. My weekly dose of racing keeps me going. But I truly understand in these weird times.

A double whammy of reductions due to the Covid restrictions then added to by and England match on TV makes heavy losses a certainty.I will try to

get to Eastbourne on Saturday to see the Royals.  I have not been there this year so it will make a change.

Get your ticket today, if I was you.

So why wasn't that last meeting like the usual final meeting of a season with rider farewells, a bit of fun and games etc? I had followed the Hunters/Lions since 1949 and it was completely different that night in October 1983.

Don't know the answer to that. I was told by Martin Rogers that the rug was pulled late in the day for the following season

Something I have always wondered about because the last match in 1983 was nothing like any other final meeting. No goodbye speeches from the riders,  see you next season, no nothing. Very strange.

Everything was set up by Rogers for the next season until the rug was pulled late in the day. He had no inkling that the last match would be the last match.

  8. That's right - £10 adult admission for the Eastbourne Seagulls v Kent Royals at Arlington Stadium on Saturday, June 19.

I've seen so much on here about that's what people want for NDL speedway.

Well, Eastbourne have gone and done it.

    See you there.

Tickets on sale now via the Eastbourne Speedway website. No walk-ups on the day.

“The economics of the sport which relies so much on the paying spectator are not robust enough to take any downturn in revenue particularly after the cancelation of the 2020 season. Our government is not able to provide any indication of the timing or the steps of lifting the restrictions, which is not a criticism, just a fact. With this in front of us, it is impossible to plan and commit for racing at the Abbey in 2021."

New stadium works was certainly a factor.

This decision has been reached due to the uncertainties facing speedway promotion in general, together with the likely disruption of building works at Abbey Stadium

Guess they are well on with the new stadium, or is the national shortage of cement a problem?
