59.5 is track record Marc Owen May 10 according to programme

Eastboourne Vs Kent Koc Semi Final

Totally agree. At this level, races really are four laps long; meaning chances to pass will come. You don't have to go flat out in the first lap to ensure points. Good luck to Kelsey tonight and the rest of the Eagles.
  3. Declare it when you like but don't charge me full price for less than a full 15 heats. Proper refunds need to be in place for fans; otherwise I go with Semion and will stay away when poor weather threatens. Fans have a choice, as well as promoter's. Next time I am in the area and the black clouds appear, I will stay away.
  4. The race to heat ten. That is what speedway has become when rain threatens. Let's press on as fast as we can and get to heat ten is the mantra from promoters. It is all about getting a result. On the one hand it saves the costs of re-staging and the diffculties of finding a date (in an eight-team league but that's another story) but on the other it short changes the fans. We had nine races and I read on here it will give me a £1 discount for another meeting, although I heard no announcement at the stadium about this. I would support "calling a meeting" after heat ten IF fans were given a discount on a later meeting to take account of the uncompleted races. After all, the promoters do not have to pay the riders full whack.
  5. If racing had started at 7.30, we would have been to ht 13. Why was there a parade? Why was the track watered after the parade? The black clouds were looming, surely getting race started should have been a priority.
  6. Speedway Star says Lakeside at this moment cannot commit to 2016.

Yes but many come from a speedway background, so would always be open to accusations of bias

The independent person could come from a non-speedway background

Agree entirely KingBee. Independent management would strengthen speedway.

Point 1: It is Speedway Control Bureau - I read that as controlling but not setting the policy. So SCB can do rules and regs but the power rests with the BSPA. I have read this week that the SCB chairman is doing a tour of all speedway tracks to speak to all sorts of people about the state of the sport. He hopes to talk to the BSPA, the report said. So, I think it is the BSPA that is in charge. Not sure trials in Nuremberg is a suitable analogy. In relation to the other points, I maybe attached too much hope in the fact that a few years ago Lakeside had new promoters. In Jon they had the speedway guru and in Stuart, a successful businessman. Frankly, I hoped the two together would make the sport see sense. It didn't happen, which is a pity. (I know Jon has been criticised for some of his ideas but at least he tried to come up with something new). Maybe Jon and Stuart became worn down by the status quo.

    Eastbourne Vs Coventry 19/7/15

    Eastbourne 2015

Georgie high-side and landed on his shoulder. Poor Darrin - granddad
  13. I have seen and heard warnings given by referees to mic men over comments made. As I understand it the mic man is a licensed official.
  14. If it is true that Scunthorpe licensed officials are involved in protest....that will be the end of Scunthorpe. SCB will drop on them like the proverbial ton of bricks. The fine on Coventry will look like a drop in the ocean.

    Coventry V Poole 1/6/15

Very true, there is an attitude around of let's rush it through and get to heat ten.
  16. Speedway cannot afford a whole raft of riders to be full time. There are not enough people on the terraces. Riders in the NL are employed elsewhere and speedway is a bit of a (sometimes) paid hobby. Grasstrack is similar. Much of NL racing is at weekends and does not involve time off work. There used to be a lot of Saturday racing in the BL and most riders could juggle a job and ride, as others have pointed out on this thread. Doubling up/down was unheard of and in reality riders couldn't do it because of work commitments. Not sure what the solution is for the EL. I agree with the earlier comment about the PL.
  17. It wasn't a good meeting either when Wolves came earlier in the season. Lambert did liven that one
  18. Are the Stars just running into form at the right time? Last year they started - perhaps - too well and couldn't keep it going, for reasons we all know. Maybe the Stars will get to the play offs this year in hot form. 50 years of waiting could end in the autumn.
  19. Looks like being the social event of the year.

That would count as a very good weekend if that happens. I think Coventry will do better than that, although injury has weakened them

Thanks for the update Bryn. That is a very good idea, indeed. It will give Lakeside a lot of email addresses which they will subsequently be able to use to promote further fixtures. Hopefully they will build up a big database. I know some people will complain that the tickets have to be bought in advance but the database will be important in the future. I see Lakeside are doing fiver admission for the Coventry match. Jon Cook says it is pretty good value - excellent value in truth. Happy to give plenty of praise to Lakeside for this. The key is being able to turn a healthy proportion of the new or occasional visitors into (fairly) regulars. That is far easier said than done but the first job is to get people through the door, which this should do. Coventry should put on a good show so fingers crossed.
  23. thank you. I am having trouble with the old keyboard. Needs new batteries. Like me! I can't wait to find out what the categories for the awards are. Looks like it is going to be much more than Rider of the Year. That's a tough one. Someone should arrange for Martin and Connor to get an award with a standing ovation.

I don't troll Lakeside threads. You have one opinion about the club; mine is the polar opposite. However, I will still go when I can. Please accept that views will differ. Others on here have agreed with my point-how it became anti-Poole is beyond me. I cannot agree with your view about the SCB - it controls what it is given to control. The real power is with the promoters and I feel Lakeside have been in a position in the past to do more to change things. They haven't taken those chances, for whatever reason. British speedway needs some strong leadership. I long hoped Lakeside would lead. Now, of course, the club has bigger issues and obviously will concentrate on a new stadium. I have no axe to grind but my honest opinion is that Lakeside could have done more.
