  1. Do you really have to lower yourself to insulting name calling. Looks like you need look no further than the mirror and I don't mean the newspaper!!

Why? Where? Its a discussion forum mate. Hence discussion!! Obviously perception is everything. Reality is I'm as cool as the proverbial cucumber. Nothing to see here as they say. Here, calm yourself down to a frenzy, have two wine gums.

Nope. Never said that at all. I said that as with others given sparse attendance last couple of meetings that I had "reduced" my attendance. I've probably attended more speedway meetings than many have had hot dinners and I've often visited multiple tracks so not just one track. I don't get to quite as many different tracks as I used to but have still been attending. There is a difference between (1) reduced from a high number to still a lot, compared with (2) none at all. You seem to have assumed the second. So you don't stand and watch, you're in the pits. Bit of an aside, but seems you're not seeing things from the perspective of a paying to get in supporter so are you really in a position to criticise poorer attendances, what they want to or don't want to pay to see, and what factors might influence the paying public. Anyway, moving on, ever been in the pits at the old Hyde Road stadium? Now that was a speedway track and proper stadium. Btw, here, have a wine gum.

Have you considered changing your username to Cinderella? Didn't she find a shoe that she thought fitted? Apologies, my sense of humour got the better of me there. As regards the part which you quote you are, in fact, wrong to assume that I was referring to you and, in fact, I did not mention your name at all nor anyone else's. I was actually meaning generally and in 'future-tense' only, i.e. if something were to occur from this point forth in the future so it was a general observation under the heading of 'generally'. That clarified, no offence was intended be it to you or anyone else contemplating doing such a thing, i.e. in the future. At least it appears we understand one another better. I'm happy to discuss anything, different opinions are good. But they should of course always be with a reasonable level of courtesy and respect. Enjoy your speedway.
  6. Yes you are missing the point. (no underline ) Case 1 Best rider by miles 5 straight wins 15 points Next best rider 11 points Extra 6th race - puncture / EF so gifts 3 points to the fourth placed rider that has only 9 points so he gets a total of 12 points. So best rider crowned champion. Case 2 Best rider by miles 5 straight wins 15 points Next best rider 11 points Extra 6th race - puncture / EF so gifts win to the fourth placed rider that had only 9 points but he is granted title of 'champion'. So best rider robbed. If an extra heat for the sake of a last race spectacle maybe better if some of the built up lead still counted rather than all down the pan. Its an idea. I'm sure you see it now me old fruit.

You're right, though was it not a trial for potentially signing fulltime i.e. only for BV in the coming season but which offer he ultimately turned down and decided to remain in the old NL. Was there not also a story about Steve scoring well from his programmed rides from reserve in a match and when he thought he was going to be asked to take an additional ride as reserve replacement he hid in the toilet? Back then of course any doubling up was more isolated and not widespread as it has become in more recent seasons. Even when doubling up was formally introduced a few seasons ago was its aim not to assist young up and coming riders so that they could be introduced to the top tier of speedway and take the step up more gradually rather than in the old BL/NL days when a 9 or 10 point second tier rider would fail in the top tier or never get past reserve/second string stage in the BL. In any case it seems that the aim and purpose of doubling up has been lost in recent seasons as being only to help solve a shortage of riders when the very instigation of doubling up may have possibly (maybe just maybe) have partly caused the shortage as when riders started to double up some established riders found that there was no place for them and they retired or gave up the sport sooner than they might otherwise have done, just a thought. Anyway, back on topic, I for one would welcome Glasgow having fewer doubling up riders or indeed none at all and instead having a team of riders that ride solely for the Tigers and whom supporters can identify with as being Glasgow riders that will always ride for the team (barring injury of course and hopefully 2018 is a season free of injuries as well).

Incorrect. I've probably attended more speedway matches than some of us have had hot dinners. How many times did you attend the old Hyde Road stadium? Ever? Yes I have asked you to refrain from personal derogatory insults - and correctly so given your comments which I have correctly noted as being of a juvenile nature. Note also that I have followed correctly to 'attack the post not the poster' as per forum etiquette and the forum rules i.e. by referring to the post content itself (your comments as being of a juvenile nature). You also incorrectly say that I have referred to you when I have not, it appears you have adopted a general note as applying to yourself which is entirely up to you. Conversely you have not followed forum rules and you have called me 'a fake fan' - which is false and which I am offended by. I have therefore reported post #136 to the forum moderators as contravening forum rules which specifically require posters to attack the post not the contributer (poster).
  9. Yes there is that, you did well there. Although those that made the observation were reckoning the top tier where there isn't any playoff, and in footie the title winners are decided by their league table position only, i.e. it is only the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc positions that go to playoff. In any case it was more to do with the 80 minutes scenario whereby a built up lead, e.g. 3-0 or 4-0 is binned after 80 minutes, and of course that doesn't actually happen in footie at all.
  10. The memory is getting a bit foggy on this one but didn't they mess around with it and at one point change it from six or more behind to eight? And was it two tacky sub rides allowed (while still so many points behind) each by different riders so potentially the top two could have an extra ride? The memory is getting foggy though.

To "BenR195": No need for derogatory sarcasm and derisive language. You are, in fact, incorrect. I have an antidote answer for every point you have made. You will also find them already in various threads on this forum as points made by others and one or two myself. I am perfectly capable of debating / discussing anything with anybody. That I do not do so in reply to juvenile and insulting responses is to be expected. Kindly refrain from further derisive language. Thank you. To everyone else: Posters know me by now on here. I can debate / discuss anything with anybody. Especially when its in an adult like manner and many will have a different view and that's fine. Different views are good. But they should, of course, be with a reasonable level of courtesy and respect. I aint perfect and nor is anyone else but we do our best. Generally: If some of us are less than encouraged by the shambles that has been 2017 season with long gaps in the schedule throughout the season, culminating in fixture congestion, "Guest Fest" matches and all the rest then we are (less than encouraged). A few of the end of season matches that were very poorly attended are testimony to that. So myself nor anyone else shouldn't be derided for our attendance being that bit less and told by some disrespectful uncouth jumped up upstart that we have no right to comment nor discuss. This is a discussion forum - of course we are entitled to comment and discuss. Some of us can remember such as the old Hyde Road stadium - now that was a real speedway track and stadium (that some jumped up upstarts these days have never even been in). The sport thrived back then and there was no doubling up. Nor have I ever said anything about 30 teams, I've only mentioned potential amalgamation of two divisions, whether this be the first and second, or the second and third. It might not be such a bad idea to merge the second and third tiers, as I personally think it would be no bad thing to simplify things, cut costs, and have no globe trotting prima donna's. A regular settled team of riders that supporters can identify with as being "their" team would be a start, rather than the different "Guest Fest" list every week and R/R shambles that doubling up has greatly contributed to. And we are all entitled to our opinion, even me.

Not so. I am quite capable of debating / discussing anything with anybody. However, I will not discuss with someone who acts in a juvenile insulting manner as you have done.
  13. GS550

    Glasgow 2018

Don't be so personal and insulting. If you wish to behave in a juvenile manner then take it elsewhere. If I, and others, do not want doubling up then we don't. Its as simple as that. We don't need you to dictate to us that we shouldn't have that view.

Kindly refrain from personal derogatory remarks. You don't know me and you know nothing about me. If you have to resort to personal insult then you have clearly lost the argument.

Appreciated thanks. However, what about the erosion of 'identity' aspect which many such as myself find a turn off and which I won't pay to see, and which has already reduced my attendance. And what about doubling up being a barrier to amalgamation / all one league (either of the existing top two tiers only i.e. 18 teams, or possibly better if amalgamation of the second and third tiers as I don't care for big names nor any prima donna's anyway) and which team would have priority over a rider when two teams in a match face each other and he rides for both. I'm sorry but the whole thing is a mess. Its a farce. Others are rebuked by it and mock the sport and I also find it a complete turn off and not credible and I won't pay to see. Edit (for Owenbros): No. I don't mean teams having different nights, I mean if in the event of amalgamation a rider ends up being contracted to two teams in the same (amalgamated) league e.g. Wolverhampton v Glasgow (in an amalgamated league) and so they obviously in such a match they would face each other on the same night then which team would they ride for. Its that kind of scenario I was referring to. Cheers mate.
  16. Nothing to do with either agreeing or disagreeing - not at all. You are missing the point. I did think of the 5 rides point so why not 6 myself that you made about Ivan i.e. before you made it I had (already) thought of that myself. However, the difference is that whereby Ivan had reeled off 5 straight wins and comprehensively beaten every other rider and was head and shoulders above the rest and had, e.g. a 4 point lead over the next best rider, an extra 6th ride whereby he had a puncture or an EF would make no difference if the points are cumulative i.e. his nearest challenger could only close the gap by 3 points. Whereas if the slate is wiped clean and all down to one additional/last race then all of that dominance is binned. That's the difference. Friends and workmates that follow football see it as a Mickey Mouse way of doing things as they see it as being like a commanding lead in football being wiped out after 80 minutes and then just playing the last 10 minutes as the only thing that counts and they see speedway as a Mickey Mouse sport that is very badly run and they laugh at it.

Understand what you're saying. However, fixture clashes / rain offs / re-arranged fixtures are gonna happen and while there's doubling up we will get the farce that we've had this season. There's another factor. For want of a better term, the "tribal" factor. Supporters/fans of team sports are "tribal" to some extent or other - they identify with the riders (or players in other sports). This "identity" factor is being eroded by doubling up, especially when rules of precedence as to whose asset and which league takes priority etc and the rules aren't followed properly anyway. You then end up with the "Guest Fest" scenario. I find it a real turn off. And its one reason why I have reduced my attendance. So on that basis doubling up doesn't pay. There's also the credibility factor. Supporters of other sports shake their head in disbelief that a rider can represent one team one day and another the next, and even ride as a Guest for one club in a cup tie and ride for the opposition in the return leg. They shake their heads at what they decry as a Mickey Mouse sport that is very badly run and they laugh at it. So on that basis we are doing ourselves no favours in attracting newcomers to a sport which is seen as a laughing stock due to such as doubling up. It is also surely a barrier to amalgamation / all one league. How would doubling up / riding for two or more teams work if they are all riding in the same league and potentially teams having priority over which rider when they face each other in a match. Its a mess. Its a farce. We need to get back to basics, keep it simple. As ragdoll64 says the sport thrived for years and years without doubling up, riders only in one league, in one country, and using one bike. And supporters could identify with the riders as being their club. The mercenary faceless 'no identity' scenario is a massive turn off which I don't want to pay to see.

Not relevant. What about the riders that have been squeezed out, careers ended prematurely and needlessly lost to the sport due to stupid rules. Doubling up has been a disaster. 2017 has been farcical. You obviously don't get it. We..... hate..... doubling up!!!!! Its killing the sport. I have reduced my attendance because of it so it does not pay!! BenR195 - read the above post and take full note of it!!!

    Glasgow 2018

Doubling up only exacerbates the scenario you paint and increases costs. We need to get back to basics and that includes getting rid of the much hated doubling up. Exactly
  20. You are missing the point. The point is that it is wrong to bin the runaway lead and put all back level again and down to one race, so e.g. if a puncture or an EF in the additional/last race then it should only affect the overall score by a couple of points or so and therefore not disproportionately affect the outcome, and so even Ivan would not be robbed. It is the equivalent of a built up lead in a football match being binned after 80 minutes and so only scoring during the last 10 minutes counts - ludicrous. And that's why many friends and workmates of mine that follow other sports including football see speedway as a Mickey Mouse sport that is very badly run and they laugh at it.

No the sport isn't that different, it still uses bikes with no brakes round a dirt track. Seems you are out of touch as regards the complete shambles that has been 2017 season and which is simply not workable.
