    Workington V Glasgow 23/9/17

Not "baffling" at all. I offered a balanced view i.e. taking the pros and cons rather than a one sided jibe at the guy. His point was that Glasgow's reserves were not that strong to begin with which is a fair point (my qualifications to that point aside). That there is also another way of looking at it i.e. that the guests they replace are significantly weaker is also a fair point. To see both points is just a balanced view nowt else.

A bit harsh? A decent enough point he made that Glasgow's reserves maybe weren't the strongest to begin with although as SR pointed out the replacements appear to be considerably weaker. I guess its all relative. I'd also qualify that although Jack is young and inexperienced as time goes on he is improving and will continue to improve, therefore being that bit stronger towards the end of the season than the start of the season.
  3. Indeed. That's exactly what I was getting at.
  4. It does seem quite petty though and a bit unprofessional, you would think they should just have shaken hands and got on with the job.
  5. Having r/r at 5 is a bit like at the old 3 race jacket under the old 16 heat formula, sort of. Ok you're right it is radical.

    Championship Play Offs

Away averages of over 8 you say. Statistically taking all heat leaders over the whole league the majority are not over 8 points away average. This is backed up by the Star figures which show that only the top 13 riders in the whole league (plus one other exception riding only handful of matches) have an away average of over 8, so that's (on average) one rider per team. Even when Steve Lawson had a 9 point average, his away average would have been lucky if it was over 8. You criticise and rubbish riders that don't have an away average of over 8 and all such riders need to be binned. Not sure which planet you're viewing from. You also say Richard Lawson never overtakes, well quite often he doesn't need to and of course his father suffered from a similar problem and Glasgow should also have binned probably around 1979 or 1980 season going by your logic that he didn't do many overtakes. The reality is that Glasgow have had a reasonable mixture of experience and up and coming youth, to have three riders around 8.5 average and backed up by two riders on or around 7 point average is a decent team, especially when you consider that the 4th and 5th average riders are young and on rising averages, its unfortunate that those two key riders have been out injured. Momentum and the team spirit that comes from having two rising stars can be the difference between a winning team and one that loses its way. Glasgow have qualified for the play-offs so as others have said that's a decent overall achievement although whatever happens as far as I'm concerned its Sheffield's title as I personally don't believe in the play-offs system, as far as I'm concerned Sheffield won it fair and square and Ipswich worthy runners-up but best of luck to everybody and if the Witches pull it off then it will be no mean feat either.
  7. Aaron Summers: "I don't see our form being an issue" But then he has to say that. He has to be positive, he's the captain. If he was negative some would tear strips off him for not talking positively. This was the context of what he actually said (from Glasgow website): “We’re definitely still staying positive. Everyone is up for the playoffs now that we’ve made it there – even with all the bad luck we’ve had lately. “I don’t see our form being an issue. The boys are raring to go for it.”
  8. That'll smell a bit all them piles of dead sheep and cattle
  9. Or.... "Lets have a look at what you could've won" Super smashing great an all that
  10. Within your biased mind obviously. In answer to your point - I've never liked the track although I've always liked the stadium.
  11. Remind us all which track the whole Fours tournament was raced on

Well you aint talking any - sense that is. I didn't say it cost more than a fiver, I said it in many pubs it was more than £2.85, and depending on where then it would be more like £30 for a round of 7. No need to be pedantic, the point was simply that a round often costs more than £15 these days. And no I don't live down south. You make crazy assumptions. There you go, a round costs more than £15.

    Speedway 2018

So you're saying each drink costs £2.85. What are they drinking, coca cola? A pint of beer in a pub costs more like a fiver. So a round for 7 would be more like £30 - £35. Let Paulco know there's pints of beer at your pub at £2.85 each - he'll be round in a flash!!

No, don't be so ignorant. I'm talking sense. But obviously lost on you. In real terms speedway costs less (in real terms) than it did 20 years ago. Prices have remained flat in the teens per match for donkeys years. A round costs more than twenty quid these days. The other day I saw a guy casually put a twenty quid note in a charity box. I do have a point.

Are you trying to be obtuse. My point was simply that since the gp was invigorated its charging a lot more than the same once a year event did before the change. People will pay for the right product. Hey, I'm one of them.

    Speedway 2018

I'm not talking rubbish - you are. I'm talking sense but obviously lost on anyone brainless. All I'm saying is that a round costs more than twenty quid these days. You would think it was hundreds of pounds or thousands - it aint. And no I aint loaded, I barely earn the average wage. In fact on checking its just under, I only achieve the average wage by working a bit of overtime.

Christ speedway has been charging in the teens for donkey's years. High time they charged well into the twenties to keep up. That's the fact of it. Penny pinching - no need for it and not the reason why folk don't attend. I want a better product and I will gladly pay twice or three times the "£ in the teens" pittance that is nothing these days - if the product is right. How do you think Cardiff can charge way more than £15 - cos the product is right and people do have the money. Nail on head. That's not why folk aren't attending. In real terms speedway cost less than it did 10 or 20 years ago, yet the crowds are falling. So it aint the price its the product. Get the product right and people will attend. Simple. That's how Cardiff can charge a lot more than £15 and attract thousands.

You're talking bollox!! twenty quid is nothing these days - FACT!! £20 is like a fiver these days. Get over it!! Not worth taking note. You're talking bollox!! twenty quid is nothing these days - FACT!! £20 is like a fiver these days. Get over it!! Christ a round costs more than that and I saw a guy casually put a twenty quid note in a charity box the other day.
  19. Haha. I know you've used that one before but it always cracks me up.

Your point about kids is a misnomer as at most tracks kids either pay half price or nothing at all depending on age. No I am not in a well paid job, I am on almost exactly the average UK wage. But I am a realist. And the realistic fact is that speedway has been in the teens of pounds per match for donkey's years. Twenty quid is worth a fiver these. I saw a guy casually put a twenty quid note in a charity box the other day - and I know he isn't wealthy either, just an ordinary guy. You're kidding yourself on - big time - if you think twenty quid is a King's ransom when the fact is that these days it isn't, A round costs more than that these days. And folk think nothing of it. The cost per track does vary but only by a couple of quid around the average, Christ you pay more than a couple of quid for just a pint of beer, these days usually about a fiver some folk on here moan at length about paying a quid of difference. Get real ffs. If the product is decent then people will pay good money. Let's see, find a high profile venue, maybe a national stadium, charge fifty quid and more and give it loads of razamataz. Maybe only a couple of hundred will turn up. That'll never catch on. Hold on its been done already. Yeah nobody turns up at Cardiff. Yeah right!! The sport needs to get out of this shoestring mentality and follow the example of how the gp's were invigorated. Money is there among the paying public, they WILL spend if the product is there that's a fact. Folk do regularly spend a small fortune on a night out and they think nothing of it. And its usually by those that have average wages.

    Speedway 2018

I disagree. People will pay for a decent product and these days twenty quid is a pittance. Anyway, if you read what I've said I'm talking about what I want.
  22. GS550

    Speedway 2018

I disagree. A round costs more than that these days. Speedway has been in the teens per match for donkey's years. People spend a fortune on trainers and all sorts of crap without a care. You're under-selling the sport. I want a better product and I will gladly pay twice or three times the current pitiful "in the teens" tiny amount. I don't want to be charged a pittance to watch some stripped down bare product. Lets face it, this is 2017 and a fiver's lucky if its worth a quid these days. I saw a guy the other day casually put a twenty quid note in a charity box. And I don't want split regional mini-leagues either as has been suggested. I want more teams, more variety, not less variety.
  23. GS550

    Speedway 2018

Sorry, but personally I find regional league splits boring. I want more teams and more variety, not less. So personally I would just not bother going at all. Yes to all one league though.
  24. So something actually took place then?
