Morris and Bellego would be a great 1 and 5... Add to that Howe Etheridge and Doolan and we have a capable top 5. Gappmeier and Carr at reserve. No idea of averages

Although early in the season it is abundantly clear that our team is not strong enough to compete at the top of the table, and unless changes are made swiftly then we will be fighting to avoid the wooden spoon. Criticism of the management team is unjust at this stage. I, like many, are not aware of the exact goings on behind the scenes but I am fairly certain that they will not be delighted with results so far. They have time to turn things around and may have to make some tough decisions. Liam was always going to struggle at number 2 after scoring the bulk of his points from reserve last year. If we were to get him to reserve the points and confidence would soon return. Without doubt his returns would far exceed those of Gappmeier in the same position. Is it wise that our lead reserve is still learning the ropes of team speedway? Absolutely not. We need a high scoring 6 to allow for our number 7 to learn their trade picking up points where they can. Dmitri Berge is an exciting talent but his scores have not been impressive so far. In my opinion we have the wrong Frenchman in the side and if Bellego can be accommodated we would be mad not to explore that option.

We could drag up the old strength in depth debate versus top heavy but seems foolish after a handful of matches... Essentially warmup matches that don't really count for much before the league business begins. Let's put things into perspective... We have one of the leagues top riders in Ben Barker at number 1. The compromise of this is having one of the least experienced reserves in Luke Crang. Let's not beat around the bush here. He is coming back from injury and is going to take some time to find his feet, especially considering he will be visiting many tracks for the first time. This is a results based business though and you wonder how long he will be given to get going. Ben was clearly not fit, and when he gets to fitness, he will be near unbeatable around Shielfield in a similar vein to Cookie and Steady around their home tracks. To simplify the gate and go debate, ask Lee Complin how to pass round Berwick...
