  1. We welcome the Cheetahs this Friday and the two best riders in the league, allegedly. Discuss!

We are still lacking in meetings at the reshaped Ashfield and we, the fans, still don't know when the SCB plan to meet to discuss Lee's situation. In the meantime with a 30 day ban we need to look for a guest.

We knocked them out of the play-offs last year, can we do the same in the Cup?

  2. Seen the photos Ace showed total commitment, did nothing wrong. Also impressed by him in the re-run when on exiting the 4th bend on the last lap he looked over his shoulder saw Sam Hagon and inexplicably slowed down and finished second. Richard Lawson (just for you Lisa) would have been proud of him. Just a pity the meeting doesn't count!

When you think what these riders put there body through while racing and crashing and falls most must be in pain half the season while riding and there's not many pain killers you can take without any opioids in them so what do they do? some riders I know  take CBD capsules as there ok  which are made from cannabis lol with all the bad stuff taken out

Good point. The number of times I've heard riders say after a crash  'I'll take a few pain killers and hopefully I'll be alright to ride tomorrow or later this week'. will this result in opposition team managers reporting these riders to the referee and demanding that they be tested and/or excluded from a meeting?

You do realise that just because it’s an internet forum and you are using a Nick name, it doesn’t mean you can’t be sued for slander?

I can’t comment on the actual test speedway does trackside as these tests differ but from my pharmacy experience for those thinking ‘oh a list is issued of banned substances’ it’s not really as simple as that. Medication can have things in it that you don’t expect - that’s how Alain Baxter lost his Olympics medal, he took a sniff of Vicks.

some assume OTC meds are ok but that’s not the case - many common meds such as hay fever relief tablets can’t be used as it would make you fail the drug test.

All that is before taking into account that two medications taken together can heighten the strength and effect of a drug - that’s why people used to take the OTC Co codamol with full strength Coca Cola.

It is a minefield and from the basic information we have then it is probably best to wait for the lab results and comments before judging an individual.
Even then though Bandits Fan, it’s wise not to open yourself up to slander accusations with random accusations

    Just my opinions obviously

Spot on Lioness. There have been lots of opinions posted regarding last night's meeting at Berwick, some I agree with some I don't but that's my opinion. There is however a big difference between offering an opinion and making statements which they claim to be a 'FACT', which one poster has done.  You clearly know more about medication and testing, but I would add that I'm aware of a number of work colleagues being advised after a basic works medical to see their doctor as a urine test had indicated they could be diabetic. A blood test at their doctor's showed they weren't diabetic. I think that is another reason for the wording used by the Speedway authorities as testing at the lab can identify more clearly was has or hasn't been taken.

It seems that in modern day speedway we can't run because, the wind is blowing, rain is forecast, the sun is in the riders eyes, it's too cold, it's too hot,  the car park is soggy, the trees are swaying, the swimming pool is flooded etc. It's quite comical to read

it seems in modern day speedway 'fans' sit behind a computer and moan, moan and moan - now that is comical to read.

Another young rider we've let go at the wrong time. Bewley and Bailey being two others that we didn't get any benefit from after their development years with us

Glasgow didn't let Bewley go. He was a Belle Vue rider and decided to leave Glasgow. Connor is still a Glasgow 'asset' and is progressing nicely. Last year we chose not to use him and we won the Championship. Last year Tom was getting stick from some fans overhis home form, wrongly in my opinion, and rumour suggests he didn't really want to come back. When clubs are limited by a points limit every year, there will always be difficult decisions to make when building a team and hard decisions will have to be made.

There's still plenty who don't use social media

I don't understand why clubs don't employ people to go around to all fans houses to knock on their door and keep them up-to-date with everything speedway related. It's maybe not as efficient as suggesting fans use the new fangled Internet but it would keep everyone happy unless they were down the shops and missed the visit.

Hes not wrong though is he. All teams have to out ride their averages to win a title with team limits at 40 and you need 46 points to win a title!

If frederiksen, paco and thomson all put a point on there average and pickering has brilliant season along with coles pitting 1.5 on his average against weakend reserves it wouldnt be that far fetched!

For team building the limit is 38 not 40.

A good evening of speedway. Once again Oxford are showing how to present meetings, and are probably reaping the benefits of it by bringing in a packed crowd (although attracting fans from Swindon, Reading and Coventry probably helps with that too!).

Sheffield were unlucky not to get a draw due to Woffy's engine failure, but you could see it coming with flames coming out of his exhaust at the start.

Great to have a good scoreboard and a countdown clock with riders ready to go in every race before it got to zero. Is this a British speedway thing or is this an Oxford thing?

The  clock and riders being ready to race before the 2 minutes expire is a uk thing, a welcome new rule.

Would have liked Gilkes in the team, but it is what it is for this dumbed down league. Personally Mountain and Ablitt did not do enough to warrant re signing, but I hope they kick on in the new season and prove me wrong. If Lambo gets to number 1 ,super fan Scunny Dan will be ecstatic!:D

If  Mountain and Ablitt had done more their averages would have increased and you wouldn't have been able to fit them in.

I've seen lots of YouTube videos of young footballing prospects who all look like Pele but who in reality are pants. I saw her around Armadale in real life and she failed to convince me of her being worthy of a place in a Championship team. I'm trying to imagine her in a heat at Ashfield against Harris and Complin and if there's first bend bunching I'm covering my eyes.

You've seen her at Armadale but have you seen her at a proper speedway track?

Any opinions on the Tigers moving up into the top league next season? Birmingham and Oxford have done it this year and it's not like Edinburgh bring over enough fans for those 3 derby meetings per year to be missed from a financial perspective so I'd really like to see a change of setting next season especially with fewer of the better riders like Basso able to be accommodated in this league even if he wanted to thanks to the new lower points limit which has been set at a measly 38.

Bit of a controversial opinion but I just wondered what other people's thoughts on this are. As we've seen from international meetings (especially the GP qualifier) the track would be very condusive to elite riders riding it so the racing would be even better than it already is.

Yes you have interesting opinions. I'm still trying to get over the fact that you posted on the Poole thread that they should sign Joe Thompson (already signed by Plymouth) as you were really impressed by him at the U21 at Ashfield earlier this year (Joe didn't impress, he wasn't even there, it was his brother Dan) and that he beat Tarasenko 'fair and square' in the play-off final (despite Vadim having bike issues). Definitely 'interesting'.

If I was the Poole boss I'd bring back Joe Thompson on a 3.51

Towards the end of the season he was looking like a number 4 and his performance in the u21s around Ashfield was terrific. And speaking of Ashfield, in the first leg of the Championship final he beat Tarasenko fair and square and really impressed me. Bringing in a 4.00 foreign rider could have its disadvantages and being old fashioned I'd rather see places go to British riders.

Firstly, Joe wasn't in the U21 meeting at Ashfield, it was brother Dan that impressed. Secondly as already posted at the time Vadim felt his engine vibrating and was trying to nurse the bike home. You will remember he won his first 3 rides and was extremely fast. To be fair Joe didn’t give up unlike some more experienced riders and managed to pass him but they were both some way behind. To put Joe's performance in perspective he scored 2+1 from 6 rides. I wish him well at Plymouth.

Did you see him ride for Birmingham last season?

How he rode for Birmingham last year is irrelevant. Claus Vissing was shocking for Birmingham in 2022 and this year was excellent for us. Lee Complin's signing was criticised by many yet in the play-offs his points and aggressive riding were crucial in us reaching and winning the league title. Glasgow know how to treat their riders and provide them with an excellent track to allow them to show their skills. The aim this year must be to win all our home meetings and then reach the play-offs. Paul will help us do just that.

I don't think it will be announced in November. GTGS event on 1 December is the obvious place to make an announcement. I suspect they will at least announce the reserves there. Less sure about the rest of the team.

'You don't  think, you suspect and your less sure'. I suspect, though I'm not sure, that this means you don't know.
