Who COULD Have Been a Major Force in World Speedway?
steve roberts replied to chunky's topic in Years Gone By
Personally I think that "Wiggy" always prioritised Grasstrack/Longtrack over speedway. Shame because I think he could have become a real big force in speedway however he didn't do too bad all things considered. -

I wonder if Sunderland would be a possibility as the stadium is still there? -
I'd be interested to know how fifteen minutes of actual ontrack action (using fifteen heats as an example) could be improved upon so as to make a full evening's entertainment? Perhaps adopt the American Football scenario and incorporate touchline entertainment?

...I'm sure that Bob Dugard was never guilty of that!

Just watching a repeat of "Repair Shop" where one time Crayford rider Mike Bessent's boots were revitalised. Sadly at the time of the original transmission Mike was seriously ill with a brain tumour and died before they were completed.

The one rider Ivan Mauger "hated" as was highlighed in his books. -
I, too, have never understood why people get so upset about the tractor making an appearance. We used to enjoy the break in racing by having a good old chat amongst ourselves to pass the time.

Swindon fans have had to put up with a lot if hyperbole these last few years from certain people who think that they have their best interests at heart.

More Osborne rhetoric.

That's a very interesting breakdown and makes for fascinating reading.

I've sent the admin team messages in the past but never receive an acknowledgement...not sure if that's normal?

Bit like the Bruce Cribb book...didn't follow any particular thread. Disappointing considering what a character Bruce was/is.

Well there's a surprise!

David was a remarkable first season "find" at Cowley in 1978...shame he never returned the following year. -
Always makes me laugh Denis Law's total dislike of England despite giving him the opportunity of making it in football as I think I'm right in saying in his entire career he never played for a Scottish club side? He always states that beating England (despite England playing with what was in effect a 10 man team for a good proportion of the game) in 1967 made Scotland the unofficial World Champions. I've read his fascinating autobiography and despite his prejudices he was certainly a star player in his time.
