Time For Brits First. No More Aussies To Uk Speedway.
GWC replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I'm trying to think of the current crop of Aussies who have forsaken the UK for somewhere else.... As I recall Brady Kurtz riode in Denmark before committing to Somerset so it does work in reverse. Time to end this thread and get on with the new dawn that is British speedway. -
Time For Brits First. No More Aussies To Uk Speedway.

UK speedway would be poorer for not bringing Australians here as they have been remarkably more successful at producing talent than we have. Just look at the recent pairs competition highlights our reliance on their riders. -
Rye House V Wolverhampton Sat 1st April
GWC replied to Dave Stummings's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Rye House was redesigned by Len Silver upon his return to speedway and initially incorporated dog racing. He invested a huge sum upgrading the place but it still remained a small basic stadium. He was always anti air fence as he knew it would have required a total redesign due to limited viewing in some parts. It's now undergoing a lot of those changes but not progressing as most would like but when I heard last season what the new promotion were prepared to spend and invest in the stadium and take the team into the Elite league I didn't really think that would ever happen. Well the journey has begun and I intend to enjoy it! -
Rye House V Wolverhampton Sat 1st April
GWC replied to Dave Stummings's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
To restrict Wolves to fewer heat wins was a real credit to Rye's team effort tonight, especially on a slick track. This is a team of racers so it's going to be a very interesting season me thinks! -

The one truly world class rider GB has produced (TW) has moved abroad. It would be the same for any future GB star - Poland pays 5 times what they can earn in the U.K. so you cannot blame a rider for maximising their income in what is a short and dangerous career. What is gaulling is this Polish directive applying to All riders of any standard - as much as Jack Holder has potential he needs to get their first and time spent in the UK should be his first commitment. -
British speedway owes a great debt of gratitude to Australian riders who have been the mainstay of our history in league racing and should always be welcomed to this country. If the situation now exists that Poland want to bring in their own rules for the top league then so be it and we will have to abide - it was always going to happen when originally suggested more than 5 years ago. Our domestic leagues are still the largest in Europe and with deminishing riders available we now need to see promoters energy and money invested in junior racing and stop looking for the quick fix from overseas.
-
If you build your team with imports then you have to abide by the rules the country of origin promote.Quite agree that Aussies should not be subject to this rule but as non EU residence then it's the power of the work permit and twit for tat as to who is the biggest employer - Poland pays the most so the rider won't offend his employer. Will he get paid is the question.

Where? When? Is This Years Ben Fund Meeting (2017) Being Held?
GWC replied to Shale Searcher's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
With the number of riders that are not now appearing in the Premiership who really ought to be there maybe these guys could be drafted in as 'guests' for the missing and injured ? -
Might it be the weather and rained off events costing money

If you had wanted Coventry to retain its speedway heritage then drop to the Championship and share with Leicester. It would then show the council officials you were serious about retaining the sport in the City's name and maybe they could see what Leicester had achieved with a purpose built stadium. Trying to resusitate Brandon would be a waste of money.

If the authorities were aware of out of work riders then they might be unlucky with their visa's.

King Cook Masters shouldn't be doubling down
-
On my 2 visits to Eastbourne last year the track was too grippy so the lesser riders couldn't turn the bike properly. Suited Ellis fine but not what NL teams should be doing.

Will there be 5 blank spaces in the programme for BV's first meeting?

British Speedway - Dead Or Alive?
GWC replied to SarahLapworth's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Very few if any sports can rely on admission income alone so marketing is paramount to the future of our sport. Speedway is unique when compared to other motor sports that can attract major sponsors and meeting attendances are not large enough to entice household names - it's a vicious circle. -

In the UK the RTA ( Road Traffic Act) applies to anywhere a vehicle has access - so any road, car park, farm land, golf course, private land and even a beach will require a person driving a motorised vehicle or bike to have minimum Third party insurance. As a racing circuit has vehicle access then it would be in a similar situation. Public liability insurance protects the business - employers liability protects the employees. These insurance policies would seek recovery against the motor insurer should an incident occur - as seems to have occurred when chum got knocked off his ladder by a tractor. In Europe they probably do things differently so perhaps it's not such a big deal in the UK , provided you have vehicle cover of course! Spectators attending a motor racing event do so at their own risk - we are warned as we enter. - but get knocked down by a tractor or a bike leaving the circuit then you could sue! -
Retired due to work - had a good job at British Oxygen and put this before a racing career. He would have been the leagues top rider if he had continued - to think that they lost Fiala Garrad Smith and Pullen in one go was a blow for the club, but Lens view was young riders should move up to the higher league ,plus a fee of course!
-
Reading Kargers alternative view is pretty shocking really and shows these guys (tuners) have little to offer but more of the same. The black art of engine tuning seems to be their Devine right and keeping riders tied to expensive regular servicing and components. I'm sure when the ESO Jawa first appeard there was similar castigation that this will never replace the good old JAP. Within a short while the Jawa had changed speedway and made it more affordable to a lot of new young riders.

Yes he is still involved and considering the team he was dealt last season did well to avoid the wooden spoon.
-
I wouldn't bet on any continuity if Newmans average doesn't fit he will be shown the door as has Ellis.

With Steve Boxall announced at Plymouth I'm amazed at the number of riders in the NL who have had a connection to Rye House the majority having started their career at the club in one way or another. Just a shame so few progressed beyond this league.
