  1. Can remember Kelly riding in a test match at Wimbledon in 83 he had been inactive and was rusty also i think he was on borrowed aquipment. But to see him ride made me realise how big a loss for british speedway he was when he wasn't riding over here.

  2. Just out of interest, if it goes Monday and Thursday in top league, is that something the panthers could do at the showground?

I have to admit I based my observations on not having seen many of the Yanks on a regular basis during the early eighties when Oxford were competing in the National League. Out of the four I saw Kelly ride the most as I used to go to Eastbourne quite often followed by John Cook. Both massive entertainers (again this is how I've categorised them). Never saw much of Shawn...never really excelled at Cowley to which he admitted was never a favourite track of his. Although seeing Sigalos score a fifteen point maximum from the reserve berth at Swindon during 1979 I viewed him very much as a gater...my personal opinion.

'The Eagles' finished well down the table (fourth from bottom?) despite, as you say, having a top four that was on par with most that season. A missed opportunity for Eastbourne that season in gaining some silverware particularly as Kennett, Moran and Preston all moved on the following season...Kennett to King's Lynn and both Moran and Preston to the States.

I remember the Swindon V Hulll meeting very well Steve 39/39 all Kilby 14. Sigalos 15 full max from the number 6 berth ( never met Kilb) Kelly got paid 11 Holloway 4 all were third places. It was a very wet meeting indeed similar to the Mike Keen meeting where DAG got 15 another strange thing was Siggy had got his max by heat 9 no Joe Owen he did not arrive.

Maybe i was doing Cookie a disservice he reached two World Final's and was a National Champion as well a real racer. In 1980 he averaged only 4.17 but in 81 he added another 4.5 points on his average some doing that.

  3. Never a great fan of Sigalos but I would rate Kelly as the most talented followed by the unpredictable John Cook and then Shawn.

Cant have Cook anywhere near the Shoey Bros both of them in there prime would Gobble Cook up.

  4. Who was the most talented Kelly, shawn, siggy or cowboy cook. How would you rate them?

Kelly for me Siggy what a class act he was total class what do you think lris.? respect your opinion alot we dont agree all the time but i respect you.

  5. In my opinion Fricke is too inconsistent which is why he has a lower average than either Kurtz or Morris. Personally i feel Kurtz will prove to be the best of the trio next season.

Kurtz showed in the PLRC at Belle Vue that his problem is consistency one race beats Doyle by a mile then struggles in races with the likes of Lawson.Fricke for me is a class act a superb stylist Adams esc) i believe he will be a GP rider in the future.

  7. Was watching some old DVDS the other night and had forgot just how good Kelly Moran was what a talent. In my lifetime talent wise he would be up there with Mike Lee and Darcy Ward for sheer natural ability.Really enjoyed watching Kelly ride a pleasure really a fun guy who always had a smile on his face wondered what memories others on the forum have of Kelly.

  8. I would not say he is better, as the average shows who is best in the UK, but Nick does need to get something sorted out on the continent rather than riding for Lakeside unless he can do both.

I dont know what you think "A ARLOV " but Morris is at least at the level of Kurtz i like and rate both riders i would say Nick is in front at the moment just..At Swindon at home Morris has been pretty consistent for a while now can he kick on hope so going back to Kurtz i rate him Morris and Kurtz have it all to play for in 2018.

  9. Impressive score Norbold you might even be the champ!! Sidney,as regards Arthur Forrest I sadly never saw The Black Prince-wish I had but I saw my first meeting in 1964 and he'd retired a couple of years earlier-died quite young I think, is it true to say that he never performed to his potential in World Finals although I see he finished third in 1956 -beating Peter craven in a run off no less. What do you reckon re my comments on Arthur-think he finished his career at Coventry

Arthur finished at Coventry he was very young when he retired aged 26/? ?? he was an exciting rider imagine he was a great sight at Odsal and The Shay. Was just checking some scores and filling in a programme from Southampton 1961 WCSemi Final round some line up Craven ,How ,Maidment,Jack Young,Broadbanks, Waterman,Chum Taylor,N.Boocock .Can you remember the meeting "BOBBATH" ? How 15 won it from Craven 14 Maidment 13. you dont get meeting's like those anymore do you.😜

  10. Morris - 8.87

    Zengi - 7.79

    Musielak - 7.37

    Ellis - 5.56

    Zach - 3.21

Leaves 9.7 for two places - A 5 point newbie & 4.7 for someone like BWD/Summers/Jonasson (at reserve he should clean up if decent equipment is bought over).

Dont know what the fascination is with Jonasson he is not cheap either he looked unfit as well last year i for one would not want him.

  11.

Your team totals 40.18 pts leaving a massive 2.18 to use, why use a rider with a 4.68 ave when we could use someone up to 7. L Bjerre 6.10...Paddy H 6.09... KK 6.86...... R Lawson (who also flies round the NSS 6.43 )

I recon Auty is certainly better than Lawson around Belle Vue and myself am not keen on Hougaard or Bjerre.

  12. OK Forumlanders-how many of the surviving 16 have you seen ride- I saw just seven- Bradley, Taylor, Boothroyd, Bales, Nygren, Geran and Moore. I don't reckon any of you can have seen all 16-not even Norbold or gustix,or Iris 123, White Knight, BL 65 or any others of you. I mean to say who could have seen Arthur Payne, Henry Long etc. . If anybody saw all 16 I will personally buy you a beer or other beverage of your choice (documentary proof required however-no cheating here)!!!!

Did you ever see Arthur Forrest ride "BOBBATH"?

  13. Kacper Woryna will do a decent job at Poole and was voted the most improved rider in the Polish Awards which is a major achievement when you consider in the same year Symon Wozniak lifted the PolishChampionship and scored well for Wroclaw who only just missed out on the league title.

Since he rode for Coventry, he has not only become a much better ride but also been a member of the Polish U21 World Champions team with double figure scores, so anything other than a reassessed average of 7.00 (maybe 6.50) would be wrong. Last season Pawel Przedelski came in on a 7.00 average and while he had no previous experience here, they are both at roughly the same level now.

Another rider that had a massive improvement in 2017 was Jakub Jamrog who in Poland was on fire and much better than the rider that also rode for Coventry but struggled to score points. Would he still be on a low average ? (Did he achieve an average)

How do think Smektala and Kubera would fare in the UK " ??INCOGNITO" both are exciting prospects.

  14. Start it up again. Haven't you got any other friends to travel and play with you? Fresh air, Relaxation and a little bit of fishing what's not to like.

Not going to catch any fish on here though DizzAssStar or is that KKS? ;)

Honestly cant you give us all a break you are on every thread with your fantasy teams and drivel go and use your left hand or something.😜

  15. Whilst I like Lewis and really wish him the best of luck, I honestly do not know why he wants to continue to put his neck on the line after so many serious accidents.

Maybe he should take it as a sign to stop racing if he can not afford to buy equipment. My advice is to Jack it in, the chance of being a world champ is gone and he is still young enough to make a successful career in another trade that has far less risks and will give him an income all year round.

My take on it is that it is not out of his system,he should do it he loves racing and there is plenty of time to be retired.I really admire Lewis for getting back he odviously really wanted it and he made it happen so good luck to the guy.His family are odviously behind him and you dont want to be getting to 40 and having regrets saying that your comments are probably the right thing to do.

  16. The problem for Swindon going top heavy at the start meant they couldnt make changes until their lowered average kicked in. This left them with only eight fixtures before the cup meetings in September.

The fans werent interested in the losing team and it took a few meetings for people to realise they were contenders after strengthening up.

Though it often brings silverware it can be a dangerous approach as early to mid season crowds are low.

I felt the crowds held up ok generally, i know there was alot of 10 pound meeting's to get people in but the main problem was the lack of meeting's.People get used to not going when there are three/four week gaps between meeting's that has to be addressed in 2018.

  17. A very good side i think Heeps for me is the key at times last year he really impressed me just needs that bit more consistency. Both the reserves are promising,Hume really has ability and is decent at home Mountain improved as the season went along and the German also has a good reputation this side will be mighty hard to beat at home i recon.

  18. I guess either would be a decent shout. Stefan was out for almost the whole of 2016 whereas we saw Zach's improvement throughout the campaign last year before his unfortunate accident.

Also think Zach may be eligible for discount from his NL days.....so should be on a 3.13 average.

I would pick Zach all day long over Nielsen we need a pretty decent reserve alongside Zach i think.

  19. With the league going the way it is, I actually think it is wise to get hold of assets like Adam and Zach. These sort of riders will be the backbone of the league soon, and they will be useful to own.

Poole did the same thing with Charles Wright.

Have Swindon really pleaded poverty? I would think that buying riders like these would cost about a week's wages for the World Champion.

Rosco's strength as a manager is his ability to read riders ability and get them into the side. He obviously decided that Nick is now ready to take over at the top.

Thinking about it, we could have gone with Jason, got rid of Nick, and then Jason decide to opt out in 2019. We might have ended up with neither of them.

Gutted not to have Jason in the side, but maybe this is a long term decision.

It's over to Nick now. If he can continue his improvement then it will be fine.

I still believe it was a mistake not to have the World Champion there for the fans, but what's done is done now. Time to move on.

My point is why would Poole pay for Wright? they dont use him ok i suppose they might get a yearly loan fee for him forget longterm build a team as and when everyyear. This year Rosco more and likely had in his mind had set on Doyle/Morris who wouldn't then up pops the 8 pointer rule everything blown out the water.

  20. Plus three earlier this year. D Bellego, Tobi and S Nielsen

Why would you buy riders now it is madness, this shows this league now has no real intention of enticing the stars back anytime soon. For me personally i dont mind the next few years is going to be a tough for most clubs why spend money out that you cannot afford.
