    Newcastle speedway

They won't sanction a "homeless" team taking part in a league competition. A one-off challenge match as a select team is fine.

    Newcastle now closed !!!

Not too exciting. CANCELLED until next year again. Poor Robbo.

    Plymouth Gladiators 2022

Barker's GS average has dropped to 8.00, which means (with home enhancement) Plymouth have 8.40 for home meetings. Sedgeman fits home and away. CW fits home and away (just) as his average appears to be identical . Can't use Nicholls though ( 8.45 from 1 Sep.)

Not that it really matters, but I think he's done 9 . Championship:- Leicester (A); Glasgow (A); Oxford (H); Berwick (A); Berwick (H); Missed Glasgow (H); Poole (A); Redcar (H). = 7. However he also did Edinburgh in the KOC home and away. Whilst these do not count towards riders greensheet averages, they are official BSPL fixtures. So I believe he's done 9.

They never paid!!!!! Lee Complin bought at the beginning of the season. What a waste of money that was!!

    Newcastle now closed !!!

But not where the riders are concerned. The Regulations state:- If a Promotion ceases to operate, and/or the SCB order an annulment, riders on that Promotions Retained List shall revert to the BSPA and transfers take place.

    NEWCASTLE DIAMONDS 2022

No we wouldn't as we'd be shut!!! Crowd receipts at NDL level probably wouldn't even cover the weekly rent!!

    NEWCASTLE DIAMONDS 2022

And as a result has a compulsory 28 day ban. More worryingly is that Newcastle now have 28 days (from when the ban started), so in reality just over 3 weeks, to find a replacement before the facility expires. Otherwise it's a guest with an average under 6.

    NEWCASTLE DIAMONDS 2022

I doubt it. if he was then Newcastle wouldn't be able to use a guest for him, just an unattached three point junior. If he left of his own accord, then he would be deemed to be "withholding his services" then we'd be able to use a guest for 28 days from the day he officially advised the club he was leaving (which is not necessarily the date of his last appearance). Since it would appear that we seem destined to use guests for the forseable future it would suggest that he is still listed in Newcastle's official 1 - 7.
  10. Paternity leave. His partner had gone into labour. Haven't heard the outcome, but I hope it was a good one.
  11. Not really. Doesn't make any difference. Just needs to know the rules. (See my previous post above). Complin could have rode in heat 15 ( as could George!!!), it just needed James to be disqualified for exceeding the two minute time allowance in heat 15, then a reserve replacement, from the gate, is allowed.
  12. Complin is on an assessed average so, as I am aware, can't guest for anyone until he achieves a proper greensheet average.
  13. What I find annoying is that Lee could of legitimately took part in Heat 15, and Steve pate should have been aware of that. The regulation regarding heat 15 is as follows:- 011.1.27 Heat 15 Heat 15 in Premiership, Championship and NDL League Competitions. Gate positions are determined by the outcome of the coin toss at the start of the meeting. The home Team Manager nominates first, but once nominated these cannot be amended, except by the Referee should the nomination not conform to the Regulations. Nominations must be a ‘qualified’ rider, as follows: - a) a rider in the 1-5 by MA (subject to them not already having taken 7 rides) b) a reserve (6 th and 7 th by MA) who is in the top 3 point scorers (including bonus points) from their programmed rides (subject to them not already having taken 7 rides). If a rider is disqualified for a Starting Offence a Team Manager may choose either of the following options: - a) the rider can start on a 15m handicap in positions c or d (the opposing team does not change gate positions) b) is replaced by a reserve who will start from the same gate position at the tapes (subject to not having already taken 7 rides) Granted he did not qualify under a) or b), however all that was requires was to nominate James Wright, then let him get disqualified under 2 minute rule. He can then be replaced by a reserve. Et voila. Lee is in heat 15, as intended. Admittedly it just shows how bonkers the heat 15 regulation is, as it is possible for any of your 1 to 7 to take part. Steve Pate should have been aware of this, especially as it happened in Newcastle's first home match of the season when Paul Starke was excluded in heat 15 for exceeding the two minutes. Would it have made any difference to the heat result, probably not as Harris was on fire last night.
  14. Suddenly in issue 4 valid from 1st May his average is shown as assessed. it wasn't shown as being assessed in the 1st three issues. Can't find the reason in the regulations for this to have changed. his original average is a converted figure (from his last Championship average), not an assessed figure.

In the past a facility (i.e. guest) was only approved for 28 days, then you had to reapply for an extension. I would think that if the "powers that be" decide that promotions are not doing enough to sign a replacement if there is no sign of the injured rider returning to fitness, then the facility would be withdrawn, and you are left with NDL riders who are not contracted to a Premiership or Championship team. I assume that is still the case.
  16. Last season Ruml (at Plymouth) was in the same position as Congreve this season. i.e. assessed on an overinflated average. He was generally poor last season and didn't get close to 4.00 by the end of the season. That's why he's on a 4.00 this year, as that's the minimum average he will always be assessed on. Plymouth released him and Oxford took a chance, and boy does it appear to have paid off. he's a different rider this year. As Scott Nicholls said, He won the meeting for them yesterday. (memories of Mark Thorpe spring to mind. As for BWD my understanding is that he needs an op on his shoulder. That said, he's needed an op since he was injured pre -covid and still hasn't had it done. It's obviously reasonably ok riding once a month or so in New Zealand but not twice a week in the UK.
  17. Correct. It is shown as such on the official referees score chart on the BSPL website. https://britishspeedway.co.uk/22results/glasgow_15.04.22_res.pdf
  18. Don't know the answer to the first question, but according to announcements at the stadium:- Heat 2: George excluded for exceeding 2 minute time allowance. He will start of 15 metre handicap. Excluded a second time for exceeding the fresh two minutes. When Starkey was excluded in heat 9, it was announced that he would be replaced by George, and a fresh 2 minutes was started. George was excluded for exceeding that two minute allowance again. Personally I would have put Lee in from the gate in heat 3, as no-one was seriously going to make any ground up at Glasgow from that handicap. Heat 4 there was no choice as we had already put Lee in instead of George. McGregor must have been on a promise on Friday as he was very quick with his finger on the 2 minute buzzer. For example, when Max hit the tapes in heat 3 the fresh two minutes was started before he reached the pit gate. Never mind that the pit phone is at the top of the ski slope. I reckon half the time allowance would be up before the ref had been told what option Newcastle were taking.
  19. Yes, but the top 10 under 21's weren't in it.

    NEWCASTLE DIAMONDS 2022

I may be wrong, but I believe the gold cup matches (whilst yes being official fixtures) were treated like the KOC and play off matches today and were not included in the calculation of the greensheet averages. Hence no official average/ record recorded.

    NEWCASTLE DIAMONDS 2022

The problem I have is that, as far as I know, he hasn't slid a bike competitively in 10 or so years. Things have moved on quite a lot set up and track wise in that time. Whereas James was at least riding grasstrack during his speedway layoff, which made the transition relatively easier. I hope Lee can pick up where he left off, but I fear he might find it tougher than James did.

    NEWCASTLE DIAMONDS 2022

Got to love the official Newcastle speedway website. Home page shows the latest results for last August!! , as well as last years team. Fixture page shows up and coming matches for LAST September. You have to search the news page to find this years fixtures. Come on Newcastle, sort it. how do you expect to attract the casual spectator when the first impression you get is that it's shut as the info is SIX months out of date.

    Guests & R/R

Yes there is. Each team has a nominated number 8. If both teams are using R/R and/or guest then highest reserve moves into his spot and number 8's step up into the vacant reserve slot. guests were virtually unheard of in the mid 70's and the number of R/R's was vastly reduced as a similar scenario to this was used.
