    Brandon Update

Risible. You are years - decades - out of date. Stick to speedway, a failing and seemingly doomed sport you at least appear to know something about.

    Brandon Update

A turd at the heart of this country? Evidence? As for Waring, well...

    Brandon Update

I reported on Middlesbrough Bears during their last three years at Cleveland Park. The promotion knew what the crowd figures were but declined to publish them. Lots of sports decline to reveal attendance figures (even some that used to). In this case, however, not providing verifiable figures is harming speedway's case.

    Brandon Update

No exact figures (sigh) for speedway crowds at Arena, although Mr Sexton (?) claims 3,000+ attended the final meeting on 14/9/18.

    Brandon Update

"The speedway club (Arena Essex) suffered from not having a stake in the ground." The sport's Achilles heel, surely.

    Brandon Update

Cripes. The Arena Essex speedway revival guy is talking about the travails of Grays Athletic FC. Now that is a muddy pool!

    Brandon Update

And Matt Ford heads back to the pits (after claiming Berwick get crowds approaching 1,000). Did Ford ride an extra lap there?!

    Brandon Update

Ms Hockenhull asks about the British Speedway Network streaming service. Ford explains it is in its infancy but beginning to work very well. He says 45 per cent of the revenue goes to Championship clubs.

    Brandon Update

Ford confident of a 'revived club bounce' in terms of crowds at Coventry. Well above 1,500, he hazards.

    Brandon Update

Ford concedes his claims about crowds at Oxford are based on a conversation with an insider. Admits the figures cannot be verified.
  13. Piotr Pyszny

    Brandon Update

Ford concedes he cannot say whether or not it would be viable to reopen Brandon for motorsport.

    Brandon Update

Ford concedes he hasn't been to Brandon since 2016. He is relying on photographs of its present state.

    Brandon Update

Ford declines to reveal what rent he pays at Poole.
  16. Piotr Pyszny

    Brandon Update

Ford expects the rent at Coventry to be roughly the same as he pays at Poole.

    Brandon Update

Ford has a retained list of "about 30" riders (assets) - and has "first call" on them all.

    Brandon Update

'The Goat' forces Ford to concede he does not have any experience of running a stadium.

    Brandon Update

'The Goat' pushing Ford on how he runs Poole whilst living in France.
  20. Piotr Pyszny

    Brandon Update

Ford says he would bring Coventry back as a Championship club. Aspiration would be the top division, however.
  21. Piotr Pyszny

    Brandon Update

Ford has left the tapes... Claims he can run Coventry as he does Poole - without debt, on crowds of 1,200-1,500.
  22. Piotr Pyszny

    Brandon Update

When Ford's time nears, will a two-minute klaxon sound? Be nice to get Ford to the tapes. We've got rather bogged down in planning minutiae and housing provision detail.

    Brandon Update

I am afraid the Cinderella, fly by night, seat of the pants nature of speedway and its clubs is being exposed ruthlessly. Stock car racing appears scarcely more credible. Back of a fag packet 'calculations' and estimates, along with blind faith and non-existent strategy, don't show either sport in a good light.

    Brandon Update

Brandon is reasonably well-heeled, as I recall.

Clubs that own their own tracks

Midlands Hurricanes Rugby League Club played the bulk of their 2023 home fixtures on the pitch (sorry, potential speedway circuit) inside that second athletics track, known as the warm-up arena. Hurricanes are in talks with Birmingham Council about moving into the main stadium for 2024.
