I mean it's had the glitz and glamour thrown at it by Sky, in a similar manner that Speedway did but it still seems to be unable to shake off it's cloth cap and whippets image and predominantly a northern sport.

Snooker & Darts have managed to change their image, especially Snooker. What was once a past time to be play in a smokey hall no has a much more modern image

Risible. You are years - decades - out of date. Stick to speedway, a failing and seemingly doomed sport you at least appear to know something about.

I think Eddie Waring had a great deal to do with bringing RL to a wider prominence didn't he? But despite all of the polish it still appears to be a bit of a turd at heart in this country

A turd at the heart of this country? Evidence? As for Waring, well...

I wonder if there’s any use referencing other sports that don’t publish figures for attendance? I still think the fact that nobody will admit to figures even given trying to save Coventry that they’re either terrible, or nobody actually collects them ever.

I reported on Middlesbrough Bears during their last three years at Cleveland Park. The promotion knew what the crowd figures were but declined to publish them.

Lots of sports decline to reveal attendance figures (even some that used to). In this case, however, not providing verifiable figures is harming speedway's case.

  4. I am afraid the Cinderella, fly by night, seat of the pants nature of speedway and its clubs is being exposed ruthlessly. Stock car racing appears scarcely more credible. Back of a fag packet 'calculations' and estimates, along with blind faith and non-existent strategy, don't show either sport in a good light.

Looking at Googe Earth, there are actually two tracks with the Alexander Stadium. While the main stadium is probably not on for speedway, there is no reason (except financial?) why a speedway track could not be built inside the second (training?) athletics track.

Midlands Hurricanes Rugby League Club played the bulk of their 2023 home fixtures on the pitch (sorry, potential speedway circuit) inside that second athletics track, known as the warm-up arena. Hurricanes are in talks with Birmingham Council about moving into the main stadium for 2024.
