    Transponders

The stock car promotions, as well as many kart and Motocross tracks post the results on Speedhive but to date speedway has not done so.

    Transponders

How speedway can fail with transponders when many of the tracks run stock cars who have been using transponders for many years with very few problems. System works for 20 plus cars but can't manage 4 bikes. It must be a totally rubbish system or the transponders are fixed too high on the bikes. On the cars they have strict rules about where they are fixed including how high above the track.

Witches v Lions KOC 2nd Leg April 4th

Just checked BSPL and Speedway Updates. Speedway Updates say the meeting is OFF but BSPL website still showing the meeting as going ahead after Ipswich announced the meeting was off on Facebook over half an hour ago. Not very impressive.

    Plymouth Gladiators 2024

How does losing your number one to injury before the season starts make you a badly run club. If it were true then some of the most successful clubs in the sport would according to you be badly run. I think the situation proves that there should be rules about what happens when a team finds themselves in the position that Plymouth are currently in. Those rules should take into account the effect on whichever club has been unlucky enough to be facing the problem Plymouth are in and also consider how such a rule affects the sport as a whole. Any new rule will also have to consider what happens if the injured rider then decides not to take their place in the team while riding in other countries or due to retirement. ALL the promotions need to think very carefully before agreeing to any such rule(s) as the last thing the sport needs is another badly written rule that is open to interpretation depending on who is asking.

    Totally agree.

    Plymouth Gladiators 2024

The thing about the team needing seven riders has to be for the meeting that is cancelled. According to the BSPL website they have seven declared riders but one of them is injured. I can't remember a team being thrown out of the league because a rider has suffered an injury in 65 years of following the sport.
  10. Totally agree with that but can you imagine the howls of indignation at how the field was not the standard that had been put together for the first try at running? Another case of whatever a speedway promotion does, it is wrong in some people's view.

    Speedway Season

So we had two planned meetings on Thursday. One went ahead on a damp track and the other was called off. Some supporters have said that the meeting that went ahead should have been called off and at the same time others have criticised the promotion who called their meeting off for not trying to run. Seems to me that whatever the two promotions had done they would be told they had done the wrong thing! I constantly read that promoters don't have a clue but when there are only two possible actions in a situation both courses of action are criticised. Maybe this shows just how difficult it is to run a speedway track and maybe we should accept that while we all think we understand how things should be run, we are not the ones who can lose a fortune running the sport.
  12. That all depends on who you ask and who is asking.

Is Chris Harris booked to guest for every team?

    Parking at Redcar

At least that is better than Rye House used to be with dead glow worms for car park lighting and a very uneven surface with lots of water, even in dry spells, hiding the holes!

    Kent Speedway

I note that the date for the 4TT is 1st September on Facebook and 4th August on the Kent Kings website. I am surprised how few fixtures they are planning although they may only be the first set and more will be added to fill the gaps.

    Berwick 2024

Just to be different Wimbledon had the start line nearer to turn 4 and the finish line nearer to turn 1 due to the short straights.

    Transponders

The bottom of page 46 is about brakes and carburettors. No mention of transponders.

Which reminds me, I am going to see Fleetwood Bac on Thursday evening!
  19. I see that the draw for the U21 British Championship semi final at Plymouth has been announced on the BSPL website but I can't find the date or venue for the final in the fixture list and it is not mentioned in the semi final announcement. Is this another case of lack of forward planning in the sport?

    Winter Meetings

The Warriors website has a report which mentions the winners of all the classes and also says Wirtzfeld has recently signed for the famous Belle Vue Manchester team.

    Brandon Update

Why is it that developers always want to build on ground that has a stadium on it and think it is a good idea to build a new stadium on some other land? Why don't they build their bloody developments on the other land they want the new stadium to be built on?
  22. I went to an England v USA test match at Crawley Heath which was held on a Saturday afternoon. After the Speedway I carried on to Coventry for the evening BriSCA F1 Stock Car meeting. A very enjoyable day which I think was in the early to mid 80s. The Cradley meeting was sadly the only time I visited the home of the Heathens. There was a very good crowd. I am sure that with proper promotion such meetings could be run successfully but the importance of proper promotion must be understood by those involved in running such a meeting. I have just looked at the international speedway website which shows that such a test match took place on 5th May 1984 which being the first Saturday of the month fits in with the Stock Cars racing at Coventry in the evening. Not a happy series for England as they lost 4-1 in the five match series. The Cradley meeting was the third in the series and started with the series even at 1-1 after England winning at Sheffield in the second match.

    Promoters Conference

In the last two seasons at Rye House they always ran the junior races before the main event. It gave the juniors a good track for their races and also encouraged the crowd to arrive early which meant the last minute crowd got into the stadium quickly. I always enjoyed the pre meeting action and think it is a very good idea.
  24. It has not got enough brain cells that work to be able to have a breakdown.

    Jubilee final!!!!!

At least Brian Rix would feel right at home helping to run BSPL style speedway.
