How do you make a small fortune from speedway? Start with a massive fortune! Also applies to owning a football club and a steam locomotive.

    Brandon Update

I would expect the £1 million includes all Eurosport production costs and the value of all adverts for the speedway programmes. It could well be that the teams share £100,000 and the rest of the £1m are the cost of production.

  5. Oxford and Glasgow can toss a coin for who goes up. Loser is the one who has to join the Premiership.

    Guess Who?

I am looking forward to pictures of Ronnie Moore and Peter Craven.
  7. It depends on which day of the week it is and who is asking!
  8. BSPL appear to be sweeping this under the carpet along with many other things that encourage and help young riders, like doing their best to ruin the NDL which resulted in IOW leaving and racing under NORA.

    King's Lynn v Ippo 17/08/23

Did you not see the carpet with a lump in it? The broom was left outside.
  10. You should have a drugs test because whatever you are on is a lot stronger than anything any of the riders who have failed tests may have had in their systems.

    Peterborough Panthers 2023

I hope the local fire service is very close as I can foresee a series of unexplained fires in the future!
  12. They had covers down and once they were lifted they needed time to do some track work. First four heats now completed.
  13. So a showcase meeting was rightly abandoned in June due to rain and no date for a rerun has been announced! If a meeting is important enough to call a "British Championship" then it should be important enough to make a genuine effort to actually run the event. BSPL keep telling us how they want to support the younger riders and then fail them big time.

    UK Speedway in Turmoil?

There have been a number of comments about racing on tarmac. When Wimbledon stadium was in its last months Spedeworth, the stock car promotion, had a number of speedway riders have a last ride around the track during a stock car meeting. Gordon Kennett showed everyone just how to slide around the bends on a tarmac track and looked as if he was on a slick track. The video is on YouTube https://youtu.be/72e5JMM3abI

    Survival of The Premiership?

Doubling up is a curse of British Speedway but the riders need to race for two teams because of the very limited number of fixtures each team races. The only way to solve the problem is to form one big league with teams running a home meeting every week meaning the rider races in the same number of meetings as at present but they are all for the same team. If we have to run with five man teams it will mean the riders get more races in each meeting which is a good thing from the riders point of view as they can make more from each meeting they race.

    Kings Lynn 2023

I hate to say this but postponing a meeting brings back memories of Rye House. I hope things turn out differently for the sake of the regulars at Kings Lynn.
  17. Except that Dolly is VERY successful in what she does and that cannot be said about most speedway promotors.

    Finale of UK Speedway ?

It would be very good news if could start racing again at Rye House for me as I was a regular there before closure. The two tracks I visited after Rye closing were Poole and IOW. Sadly in both cases it is no longer possible to get back to the Wimbledon area after their meetings due to changes in the train (and ferry in the case of IOW) timetables after Covid.
  19. If you or the 6 year old are interested in railways then I can recommend the Severn Valley Railway although it is not as cheap as it used to be.

    Kent Royals license revoked!

Sadly I often see people saying they don't like any meeting that is not part of the league. I have heard both KO Cup and National Trophy referred to as Micky Mouse meetings! Pairs, Fours, Individual and other meetings don't seem interest many fans for some reason which I have never understood. Even back in the 1960s I can remember half the crowd leaving after the league match and not wanting to watch the second half which normally had racing that was as good as the 13 heats of the league match. I don't understand the reasoning or have an answer as to how promotions can get a crowd for something that is a bit different. Maybe I should ask @barrybishop since IOW seem to have found a formula that works.

    Jubilee final!!!!!

Just goes to show how writing rules can be so difficult.

    King’s Lynn v Sheffield 01/06/23

The Stock Cars have two dates in June, four in July and five in August! So Trackstar, who like the Speedway, rent the stadium are getting the crowds in far more than once a month.

    Admission costs

Can someone change their nappies and put them to bed PLEASE?

He will probably think both Monmore and Foxhall are training tracks for juniors on 150cc machines! Then take him to Mildenhall and watch his expression.

    Finale of UK Speedway ?

Three meetings in a day for my family was Rayleigh for speedway in the morning, then stay for the Stock Cars and Bangers in the afternoon followed by a dash back to Wimbledon for the evening Speedway meeting. I have done an Arena Essex Speedway meeting followed by a Mildenhall Stock Cars and Bangers meeting in the evening which resulted in me commentating at Mildenhall that evening due to their regular commentator being ill and the promotor being very unhappy behind the microphone. EDIT - I also had a wonderful day with my parents going to Cradley for a USA v England Speedway Test Match on a Saturday afternoon followed by the BriSCA F1 Stock Cars at Coventry in the evening. Sadly it was our only ever visit to Cradley but it was certainly one of our maddest trips as I drove a Reliant Robin in those days.
