If you or the 6 year old are interested in railways then I can recommend the Severn Valley Railway although it is not as cheap as it used to be.

Sadly I often see people saying they don't like any meeting that is not part of the league. I have heard both KO Cup and National Trophy referred to as Micky Mouse meetings! Pairs, Fours, Individual and other meetings don't seem interest many fans for some reason which I have never understood. Even back in the 1960s I can remember half the crowd leaving after the league match and not wanting to watch the second half which normally had racing that was as good as the 13 heats of the league match. I don't understand the reasoning or have an answer as to how promotions can get a crowd for something that is a bit different. Maybe I should ask @barrybishop since IOW seem to have found a formula that works.

Just goes to show how writing rules can be so difficult.

King’s Lynn v Sheffield 01/06/23
Chris116 replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The Stock Cars have two dates in June, four in July and five in August! So Trackstar, who like the Speedway, rent the stadium are getting the crowds in far more than once a month. -
Can someone change their nappies and put them to bed PLEASE?

He will probably think both Monmore and Foxhall are training tracks for juniors on 150cc machines! Then take him to Mildenhall and watch his expression. -
Finale of UK Speedway ?
Chris116 replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Three meetings in a day for my family was Rayleigh for speedway in the morning, then stay for the Stock Cars and Bangers in the afternoon followed by a dash back to Wimbledon for the evening Speedway meeting. I have done an Arena Essex Speedway meeting followed by a Mildenhall Stock Cars and Bangers meeting in the evening which resulted in me commentating at Mildenhall that evening due to their regular commentator being ill and the promotor being very unhappy behind the microphone. EDIT - I also had a wonderful day with my parents going to Cradley for a USA v England Speedway Test Match on a Saturday afternoon followed by the BriSCA F1 Stock Cars at Coventry in the evening. Sadly it was our only ever visit to Cradley but it was certainly one of our maddest trips as I drove a Reliant Robin in those days. -
Don't forget that Plymouth were forced out of the NORA league before it even started due to threats from either SCB or BSPL. Restraint of trade is illegal and the SCB could therefore face legal action from two of their own promotions and the stadium owners involved. If SCB fine every promotion that has no control over what other events take place at the stadium they use I can see BSPL ceasing to exist even sooner than many of us fear.

If the Sittingbourne promoter has been fined for using the same track as a NORA event then why has Rob Godfrey not been fined as well since he actually runs NORA events? How many other tracks that run BSPL events also run events under NORA? I hope Sittingbourne tell the BSPL to go to hell and help them on their way by suing them for restraint of trade.

On a similar theme, one well known Stock Car driver had the following on the back of his car:- "Second place is first loser"

Redcar vs Poole BSN SF 2nd leg 20th May

You were there and my comment is based purely on what has been said. Where a person is watching from can make a huge difference to what they see and I say having been a steward in Stock Car racing. I once had a very close finish to a major championship where my view made me make one decision but thankfully I looked at two different video views which both showed things that I could not see from race control and I was able to make an informed decision. A speedway referee is not always in the best position to make a decision depending on where on the track an incident takes place. Speedway referees don't have the help of videos so they can only call what they think they have seen with no help. We all like close, competitive racing but brings with it the increased chance of incidents like the one between Worrall and Edwards. Depends on where we are watching from and possibly who we support on how we view any incident. The important thing is that the riders are not injured in any crash and we can continue to enjoy watching them entertain us while they try to earn a living. -

So it appears that Edwards taken off by Worrall due to Worrall turning for the bend. Edwards could not turn right or leave turning for the bend as that would put him in the fence. Worrall had to turn when he did as if he kept going straight he would have hit the fence and taken Edwards with him. Given where they were on the track it is my understanding of the rules that Worrall is allowed to ride the line he wishes and from the various comments above it seems he stuck to an inside line which is the reasonable way to race. Maybe with more experience Edwards would not have put himself in the position he was and would therefore have avoided the crash. A simple case where two riders racing lines cross paths and in that situation the rider who is behind is the one who will be deemed to be the cause of any crash. -
Too stupid to be a village idiot.

BRUMMIES V EDINBURGH Wed 17th May CL
Chris116 replied to Brummies_Ste's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Shame that the BSPL website headlines this meeting as being Birmingham v Plymouth! They have at least got the write up correct. -
A simple solution to all of the fixture problems/fiddles is to make it a condition of entry to the leagues that all teams have to provide a list of dates when they are able to run home meetings. A central independent panel would then issue a fixture list and any team who failed to organise any fixture they had been given would be deducted 4 league points. The fixture would then be reissued and a second failure would be a 6 point deduction. The signing of riders who are not available due to riding elsewhere would not be a reason for postponing a meeting and only rider replacement would be used. Any meeting postponed due to weather or stadium lighting failing or fences being broken would be run with the riders who were available on the original date to stop teams postponing so their star will be available on the new date. The howls of protest during the first year from promotions who couldn't fiddle things would soon die down and we might find teams filled with riders who don't only ride here when they can't find a better pay day elsewhere. Poland, quite rightly, look after their leagues and it is time we did the same. Our top two leagues now have headline sponsors and the BSPL need to look after the businesses who are supporting British Speedway. Premiership riders contracts must have a clause which says they are available for all Monday and Thursday fixtures from 1st March to 31st October. Equally Championship riders must confirm their availability for all dates their team could be expected to race on for the whole season. If a rider will not sign to race for every fixture their team is racing then thank them for their interest and find a rider who will commit themselves to their team. I fully understand that the above is not possible for probably two or three years but the first moves need to be made before next season and a clear published plan needs to be in place AND followed to the letter with none of the usual BSPL five year plan nonsense where they are dropped after one season.

I pray that you are right and the new track is a massive success.

I just hope it is not like Skegness. The opening meeting was the first and last time Skegness had a good crowd. From then on the weather played a major role which was a great shame.
-
Strange that the gate was so badly damaged that it made running Speedway impossible but the Stock Cars finished their meeting with all races running their planned distance!
-
The FA had been wanting to get rid of the speedway for a few years after a BriSCA F1 Stock Car did an end over end roll across the centre leaving the football pitch looking like a ploughed field! I don't think the FA understood that speedway bikes don't do that sort of thing.

Perhaps they could travel somewhere else and park legally for once!

I remember back in the 1960s at Wimbledon, Ove Fundin was always booed whenever he visited Plough Lane. No one got worked up about it.
