It's all about whether Chris needs to draw a proper wage from the club and so making the club less viable given the wage rumours for riders... my thoughts are he doesn't have to rely on income from the club because he'd been a long term international rider and will have other business income....

To be honest it doesn't matter if Ipswich speedway is Louis sole income or not.

That should have been taken into account when buster was looking and the buying the club and the budget to run the club increased to allow Louis to take a full time wage if that is required.

At the moment it looks like the Ipswich public have been shafted just so that Buster can keep the top flight going.

Any positives from when the announcement of moving up was made seem long gone. I was feeling positive back in November I mean moving up Louis in charge with financial backing from buster and a great sponsor I felt sure we could attract a couple to decent heat leaders....... Now it appears the finance is so poor that we won't even talk to Nicholls as the terms are embarrassing!

Our last season in the top flight almost finished the club.

A combination of top flight politics a weak team which resulted to crowds dropping to dangerously low figures on face value no one seems to have learned from 2010!

Why would Ipswich join the premier league if they could not afford to pay reasonable rates.

I'm starting to think that Ipswich were backed into a corner and forced to move up to save the premiership. Perhaps a case of premiership or no speedway as the bspa tried to save the flagship league!

The longer this all drags on the less convinced I am that this what Louis and Ipswich as a club wanted.

The amount of work that has been put in recent years in terms of naming competitive teams social media updates and interaction with the supporters seems to have been wiped out and replaced with the Chapman silence blanket.

The club didn't appear to be for sale and Ipswich were planning championship speedway again at the end of last season.

  3. My cencern is that all the smart money seemed to have Doyle as heading to ipswich.

That apparently fell through due to money and now if the rumours are to be believed the terms we can offer are so bad that we won't even embarrassing Nicholls by offering a deal.

If that's true we would seem knackered!

If Lizzy Yarnold does have more recognition it's not much more given that only 2 out of more than 60 knew of her, and that's with the benefit of mainstream media coverage that would dwarf Woffinden's.

Is it an indictment of speedway or of the media coverage of it ?

As I have pointed out, Woffinden isn't just a World Champion he's the only British rider ever to achieve 3 titles and it's therefore a matter of unprecedented success. While I take Sydney's point, it is fair argument that he is the greatest exponent of a sport that Britain has ever produced  (ironically, Lizzy Yarnold is the same).

I actually think that is worth more than a mere mention.

It's an indictment of the sport of speedway unfortunately.

The way the media covers the sport is a direct result of how speedway has governed it's self over at least the last 30 years..... The old saying reap what you sow!

  6. Oh dear still debating this are we.

Can we just except that speedway is a minority sport that struggles to attract a combinded audience of 20k a week from all its venues and that the mainstream press and 99% of the general public have no Idea what speedway is or who Tai Woffinden is.

Just to show how important it is almost a month on and I have no Idea who one and to honest don't really care.

I'd better not even get you lot started on the new years honours list!

  7. Who would have the higher Average Nikki Pedersen or Greg Hancock? As neither of these will ever ride in the UK again just offer the highest average one a contract then they can withhold their services and we can use guests.

It's about the only way we stand of being half competitive

  8. Watching my first elite hockey league game on free sports Sheffield v Nottingham....... Maybe the bspa should make a resolution to take a close look at how to run a  fast paced adrenaline filled family sport. I'm sure not all those present came by the tag of bring a friend...... And now there playing the national anthem oh happy days!

One of the problems is that the BBC sees speedway as a Sky TV sport (now BT) and not one of "their own".

It seems as if preference is given to sports broadcast by the Beeb.

    Shame on them.

The clue is in the title it's BBC sports personality not sports personality so will always focus on BBC sports.

However I agree that no mention of Ronnie, Ivan or Tai is terrible.

Having said that I haven't watched the bloody thing for 20 years I got fed up of the beeb blowing smoke up a few over inflated ego's rear ends!
