Excellent for Nico yes - for ipswich no.

knocked KP off virtually when on a 5-1 in ht 2 completely unnecessarily and again fenced Heeps in ht 8 when on a 5-1 on second resulting in a 4-2, Swindon were by far the better team tonight but Nico didn’t look for a teammate once, rode through anyone and everyone he got the chance to.

only way I see us reaching the final now is dropping bomber and KP and bringing in a top rider at no.1 to come and be the hero.

shame a few weeks back I thought KP was steadily improving riding at the tough no.5 spot and since he’s dropped to reserve he’s dropped off a cliff

From where I was standing it didn't look like Nico caused any of his team mates a issue. Heeps clearly not fully fit & KP looked like a complete novice.

Nico pushing for a Foxhall return next season as the Super reserve.

Buster has been in control at Lynn for several years.  Ipswich has been in the hands of the Louis also for several years.  How many owners have come and gone at Alwarton  in say the last 20 years.

Must tell it’s own story on how viable the place is for Speedway

Louis' in charge at Ipswich for 30 years... and have kept the club safe dispite some dark hours ie the winter of 95

Just can't see the straight-through exhaust being acceptable, from a noise perspective in many stadiums. As for capacity then any single cylinder from 250cc up would allow for racing that is fast enough and safe enough for the UK tracks. For UK speedway to survive it has to break away from what is happening on better tracks in Europe. Yes, call it Formula 2 speedway. What matters is the quality and excitement of on-track racing.

But even on the better tracks most of the time it enter corner on the inside and then drift to mid to outside thus making outside passing a hazard. These things are out of control on the big European tracks to.

The bikes need changing easily done turn around tomorrow and state that from season 2021 the bike is going to be xyz. That gives a season and a half's notice to the riders that things will change. Time to plan.

Indeed the British League Division Two/New National League and later National League ran for many years without having to resort to using guests. There were a few exceptions and if I recall riders on World Championship duties could be replaced but I can't remember the specifics?

And that league was fair more successful in the last few years than the old BL.

Maybe the promoter's should dust off the old NL rule book

I've been thinking about this for a while, team speedway is not really a viable option at the moment in terms of riders doubling up etc across 2 or 3 divisions.

I understand they are trying to do away with it over 5 years and that there are a crop of youngsters whom in 5 years time may be able to boost numbers.

However, what state will the sport be in when 5 years is up, will there be a sport left?

Personally i think team speedway is already on it's way out, it's only the fans whom cling on to team speedway purely as they have already built a relationship and affection with their chosen club.

I think individual speedway is the way forward for the Sport perhaps not the way forward for clubs.

I can see there being perhaps 4 divisions of 16 riders call it a Premier League, Division One, Division Two and Three

Potentially ran to the same format as the speedway grand prix, with a broadcaster like Sky TV doing something big with the main league where the prize money can be something quite attractive to riders.

Run from April - August covering 10 championship rounds, with some form of promotion/relegation bottom 4 riders in the premiership going down top 4 from Division One going up etc. All the way down to Division 3

Rounds ran on Friday, Saturday or Sundays to boost attendances

Just for fun, which 16 would be in your premiership? Mine would be

    1. Jason Doyle

    2. Max Fricke

    3. Troy Batchelor

    4. Robert Lambert

    5. Craig Cook

    6. Kenneth Bjerre

    7. Rory Schlein

    8. Jacob Thorsell

    9. Brady Kurtz

    10. Jack Holder

    11. Hans Andersen

    12. Chris Harris

    13. Danny King

    14. Scott Nicholls

    15. Richard Lawson

    16. Dan Bewley

    Ten Rounds at

    Belle Vue

    Swindon

    Glasgow

    Ipswich

    Olympic Stadium

    Sheffield

    Poole

    Kings Lynn

    Birmingham

    Peterborough

I these new way forward ideas some of which need consideration as the current operation model is not working.

However these new proposals loose all credibility when random things are chucked in I mean a domestic competition at the Olympic stadium is pure fantasy.

  6. Interesting however after probably 25 years or longer of cost cutting there cannot be much left to cut? I am always amazed the one area never looked at is rider equipment.

Surely if we go down the one big league route and Doyle and Lambert do quit the league then that's the time to introduce standard equipment? To save on the one major cost that has never been looked at.

Not cost cutting but something else that massively affected my decision to stop attending is the wonderful guest rule. That along with the transfer system really needs a massive overhaul.

The two combined saw Scott Nicholls ride 3 weeks running at Ipswich for 3 different teams....... But hey this is speedway as the phrase goes.

i think your timeline is a little skewed it was well into the 2000’s before the top boys all upped and left.

To illustrate here’s a list of a few riders that rode in the elite league in 2005:

tony rickardsson, Chris Louis, hans Andersen, Leigh adams, Ryan Sullivan, Antonio Lindback, Pepe Protasiewicz, Billy Hamill, Greg Hancock, Jason crump, Nicki Pedersen, lee Richardson, Scott Nicholls, Sebastian ulamek, Greg Walasek, Freddie Lindgren, Peter Karlsson, Michael max, ales & Lukas Dryml, Mark Loram, Andreas Jonsson, Kenneth Bjerre, Joe screen, David norris, Chris Harris, Kris kascperzak, many others that arguably worth a mention, Troy Batchelor, Matej Ferjan, Jason Lyons, Mads Korneliussen, Martin Smolinski

my memories of the late 90’s as a witches fan is the team of 98 - gollob, rickardsson, Louis, Svab, nicholls & clouting! :)

Problem is there are also far less top riders world wide apart from Poland it seems in decline everywhere even the GP are at best operating at the same level but certainly not to the potential that they had back in the early 2000s. Sad times really.

  8. Interesting that alot on this forum myself included point to Poland as the way forward. So when we have a owner who starts to give his clubs a professional image like the Poles do he gets slated. I'm not Chapman biggest fan however I can only admire how his teams are kitted out. Louis has always had his teams well kitted out and the Ipswich website and interaction on social media over the past few years has been great.

Up the witches right now the sport seems professional well in Ipswich at least.

  9. At least it's now clear who runs the club..... Louis is just the front man!

To say I'm disappointed is a massive understatement. At the end of last season we had the prospect of watching the best talent this country has produced in years in Drew Kemp and now we're being served this.

    What a missed opportunity.
